Amazon Prime Now with Beer/Wine?

I've used Amazon Prime Now at GCH in the past, but our previous order was non-perishable food items and bottled water. This time I'm thinking of adding some beer to our order. Has anyone had alcohol delivered with Prime Now? We will be staying at DLH. Previously I've just had bell services accept the delivery, but I know this isn't possible with alcohol. Do I just need to hang out in the lobby to wait for them?

I know Von's is also available, but I like Prime Now since you can use the app to see exactly where the driver is and when they are headed your way.

I think it is illegal, to get alchohol delivered. Amazon would love it but it ain't happening
It's not illegal for these services (Prime Now, Instacart, Google Express etc) to deliver alcohol. They just can't leave it on the porch or give it anyone who is not of age.

I do not know specifically how it would be handled at the GCH, but questions about other delivery services such as Vons suggest that if you have alcohol in your order you must meet the delivery in person, bell services will not accept it on your behalf. Seems like that would be something you could coordinate with Prime Now since you can track your delivery easily in the app.

It is not illegal. OP is Anaheim one of the cities that Prime Now delivers alcohol in? I believe the list of cities is limited. I don't drink, but other comments I have seen on the boards say that you have to be present to receive alcohol deliveries rather than leave it to bell services. Perhaps the front desk will give you a call when your delivery arrives; you would have to ask their policy. But I would definitely be at the hotel when the delivery is expected rather than in the parks or downtown Disney or anywhere else.

Some states have (or did) have laws about getting alcohol shipped to a consumer especially across state lines. However alcohol delivery is something different as it from local places, though some states may still have laws about that.

OT I have a friend who is big in logistics and he says that is one of the main reasons Amazon bought whole foods. Costco is the biggest seller in the country and amazon can't get into the market. I am sure you are right on the signing part, you have to be there, That does not work with amazon drop and run policy

Yes, you need to be present to sign. We've only used Vons (works great) but not for alcohol, because we like the order at Bell Services before we check-in.

Another option just for alcohol is Wonderland Liquors on Katella. It's a mini-mart but fairly good selection--always been friendly guys. They start delivery at 4:00 PM. If you call earlier, they usually commit to you being the first delivery at 4:00 so you are not waiting around. Note the items are marked up so it's not really "free delivery". But we don't buy too much for a few days stay.

You can also walk there DLH (or GCH/PPH), which I've done when it fit our schedule. Head past wedding area/Frontier tower and diagonal across the parking lot (Simba lot, I think?). It's about the same as walking from the Esplanade to Toy Story MM, I think, but not quite as magical. I have emptied out a carry-on and wheeled it over to Wonderland to bring back some beer/wine before. The Wonderland guys said "That was a first!" Uber would probably be minimum ($4?). This was pre-Uber- doh!

Thanks, I haven't heard of that place! I may give it a shot since it sounds a bit more straightforward. Then I can just have Amazon Prime Now deliver some food items and water so it can go straight to bell services.

Your story about the carry-on made me chuckle. That totally sounds like something I would do... but of course not necessary now with Uber!

Yes, I think some states may still have laws about shipping alcohol. As a clarification, Prime Now is a local, usually 2hrs or less, delivery service Amazon offers in some areas. Although its Amazon, its not "shipping", it's delivery, as you mention.

Yes I learned the hard way. I walked it from GCH one time and realized carrying two boxes of beer and two bottles of wine in 90 degrees was not gonna work. A nice woman literally offered to drive me back to GCH, which was amazing. Next time (from DLH), I wheeled the empty suitcase through the Simba lot and brought it back full. Lots of funny looks from CMs parking for their shift. Gotta stay hydrated!

Anyways, yes-- food from Amazon/Vons, then Wonderland delivery or Uber is the way to go, if you don't want to wait around to sign.

I found this site that you can click on each state and find out their laws on wine shipping:

A number of years back a friend in Maine was looking to have some wine shipped from a vineyard in Cali (I believe) but they could not ship it to him. He was looking at having it shipped to me in MA. In the end he didn't do it but I know he has since had wine shipped to him in ME.

I know in MA, and other states as well, wineries from out of state need a license to sell to here. Because of this a winery may not choose to get that license and sell to that state, especially if they feel they will not get enough business from that state. I can't remember if that was the reason why he could not get that shipment or if ME has changed their laws. I believe the law in RI says that you can only have wine shipped if you actually purchased it in person at the out of state winery.

From what I have seen only Utah, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, and Delaware do not allow alcohol to be shipped into the state, The other states offer some sort of allowable shipping with some having restrictions.

My sister and I were told about this place by a CM. We were staying at the DLH. First issue: when we tried to cut throught the parking lot, we were turned back by the security people, who told us we weren't allowed there. So we trudged a very long way down Disneyland Drive, past the PPH to get there. Then, second issue: with bottles to carry and it being a pretty hot day, we walked an even longer way back. We had thought it would be quicker to go straight up the street the Disneyland Hotel backs onto (Walnut), but turns out there is no entrance at all on that side and we had to walk all the way around the corner and into the main entry for cars and taxis. I decided I would never try and walk to the liquor store again!!!! I'd rather spend the money to buy expensive drinks onsite, lol, but Uber and Lyft make things a lot easier now.

DizMe, that's a major bummer! I never encountered security. Just lots of waves/smiles/laughs from CMs. But if it's a 100% CM lot, that makes sense to keep anyone else out.

Delivery/Uber is the way to go. Save your exercise for the Parks
