I got a Kindle Fire as a gift and really love it! My free Amazon Prime trial is almost over, and I was wondering if I should buy the yearly membership.
Besides free 2 day shipping (I order quite a bit from Amazon), what other things can I take advantage of? During my trial, I have borrowed books to read which is nice.
Just wondered how to take full advantage of everything they offer.

Did you check the Prime Membership info on Amazon? All the benefits are detailed there.

One benefit I like is streaming many free tv shows and movies.

I have it. I LOVE it. I recommend it. If you have friends that are interested in a Prime Membership you can add up to 4 people to your account. I added our Private Nurse for my son and my sister. You can split the annual cost that way.

I agree, check on Amazon for all the details. My husband signed us up when it was new and I told him it was a waste of money - boy, was I wrong! We use it at least once a week, it more than pays for itself. It's also one-day shipping for $3.99 (which we don't use very often, but has helped us in a pinch around Christmas time when we forgot some presents and before our last Disney trip when we needed costumes quickly). Couldn't get by without it now - I've ordered everything from basketball goals to tweezers for free shipping. And I love to read (I have a Kindle Fire, but sometimes I just need the actual book in my hand) and the release day delivery is excellent!

Just FYI - if you do "share" your prime membership like a PP mentioned, they ONLY get the free shipping benefit. They don't get the free kindle library or free streaming (the kind that comes along with Prime).

I seriously don't know how I ever lived without free 2 day shipping. Especially since "2 day shipping" for me usually ends up being NEXT day (FOR FREE!!!)

Is there an easy way to browse for lendable books on Amazon prime? I have been looking for specific titles, but it seems whatever I want to read is unlendable.

I love Amazon Prime and couldn't live without it. I'm lucky that I got it free for a year and then at a discounted rate for the second year. But, I will definitely pay full price for it when the time comes. I buy everything on Amazon from bubble wrap, shipping boxes, our favorite waffle mix, and more

Whoever is listed as a user on your Prime membership gets all the same Prime benefits as you do. I have my husband and my grown son as users on my Prime account and they get the book rentals and the free streaming just like I do, in addition to the free shipping and 3.99 overnight shipping. Someone told you wrong.

Yep, I'm the free member on my husband's account and I haven't had an issue with any of the benefits. I probably use it more than he does :).

Where do you add people? I don't see anything under Prime management - am I missing it?

I use it a ton, especially for stuff for Disney (body glide, socks, travel needs); I'd love to add my twin sister!

I just got my DD17 one for her birthday. I'm disappointed that the lending library only allows one book per month, so so far not seeing the benefit. We live in a small area and the library here doesn't participate. Am I missing something, is there another option or do we just have to buy books.

For the time being, the Lending Library is limited to one book per month. But, if you also have a Kindle, you might be able to share books with your daughter if you have similar tastes.

Also, you or she can check out Pixel of Ink, which lists tons of free & deeply discounted Kindle books on a daily basis.

As for me, the lending library is the smallest perk of the Prime membership. The free two day shipping and the Instant Videos are probably my favorite features. Just bought a Roku box so I can stream videos to my TV (the $49 one, since I don't have an HD tv) - time to catch up on Downton Abbey & Sons of Anarchy! =)

I have my parents on my Prime account and they do not get the streaming or the lending library. Could the difference be that they are at a different address? Technically you are only supposed to add people to your Prime account who live at your same address.

I would like to add my daughter to my prime account. She has her own amazon account so she does not get the books that I have on my account. This would not change if she shares my prime, is that correct? Also does that mean that she can borrow a book a month and I also can borrow a book? Thanks!

Love this thread. I've been wondering many of the same questions, since my dd has a Fire, and I'm getting ready to get one. She has Prime & I read books on hers every day! Love it!

This is what I need to know.

No. If you go to Amazon, this is explained on their Prime Help Page. You share shipping benefits only, nothing else:

Yes. Again, you just have to go to the very helpful Prime information on Amazon to find the answer:

Are you a college student or have a college student in your home? If so you can get a free 6 month trial and then its only $35 annually as long as you have an email address that is an @edu.

This is because you use the same account. My husband and I have different Amazon accounts and I only get the free two day shipping and $3.99 one day shipping. I do not get any other benefits.
