Amazon plans to open on UK High street

I wasnt sure about it when i saw the title, i usually only order dvds/blu rays or cds from them and theyre usually delivered quickly. I think its the fact theyre doing larger items and want a shop where people can order online but pick the item up. think id do that rather than have to wait in all day for a delivery. sounds like theyre doing somthing similar to Argos. hopefully it works for them :thumbsup2

For larger items I can see a click and collect service similar to Argos will be a good business model for Amazon :)

^So long as they don't use Argos' inane queuing system. Its particularity infuriating when you can see your item on the shelf but they keep wandering around trying to find it.

Extremely interesting concept, web only company moving to the high street/retail parks.

I could see it working as an Argos type operation plus a showroom to have goods available for viewing. However, I would be extremely interested to see how this would affect prices as Amazon is usually cheaper than other high street stores and bringing the costs of running shops in to the equation may drive up prices. Or if they had the same prices now how this would affect existing stores like Comet and Currys, etc who are usually substantially more expensive.

Surely it'd be in their best interest to keep the prices as they are, and the free postage deal.

Maybe you'll have to pay a premium for the Click and Collect - so they can at least recoup some money.

I wouldn't use them. I shop in our village, farm shop & Asda. Try to never goto shopping centres or high st.
Everything else buy online, used Amazon more than ever this Xmas, probably 80% off what we have spent is with them, waiting for 6 items from them now.
Their 1 click system is superb, can have delivered to my business address instead of cardholder address, free delivery and good prices.
I guess it will open sales up to people without computers but can't see me going in.

I actually wouldn't mind it, I probably wouldn't use it overly much, generally I buy games from play.com and game, but I have recently been preferring to go buy something in a shop rather than waiting for it to arrive, with only a few exceptions.
