amazon.com shipping question

I want to buy a camera tonight. I am leaving early morning on 12/2 for vacation. I have two option, free shipping and it states will take an additional 5-9 business days or standard shipping (which costs $7) and it will ship within 3-5 business days. Has anybody bought from here recently and how long did it take. I am willing to pay the $7 but I would be cutting it short. Should I just use the free shipping and just have the camera waiting for me when I get home. I do have an extra camera but the one I am trying to buy is smaller and compact. Thoughts? Need to know within a few hours so that I can order it.

It really depends on where you live, I live in california and I normally get the items in 2 or 3 days when I do the free shipping option. However, my items are normally shipped from Nevada. Sometimes my items are shipped from IN and it takes a lot longer. If you are afraid of risking it time wise, I would just put my regular mail on hold with the post office, as the items are shipped USPS or pay the extra amount for the quicker shipping.

I ordered something from Amazon on Monday of this week, I chose free shipping, I received an email on Wed. that the item had shipped. Today is Friday and I still don't have it. I order frequently from Amazon - usually dvd sets. I ALWAYS use the free shipping option just because it doesn't speed up the actuall processing time (Amazon processing/packaging time) and I'm not in a hurry enough to pay an extra $5-10 to get an item a couple of days sooner. If I was absolutely sold on buying a camera from Amazon - I'd still go with the free shipping option. If I wanted a camera for an up and coming vacation and really wanted to take said camera on vacation - I'd try to find a similar deal elsewhere that I could purchase the camera at a store so I'd be sure to have and figure out how to use it before my vacation.

You know I have had great luck with the free shipping and received my items in 3 days and I also waited 30 days for an item(that was in stock!!) It took them a week to just process my free ship order(I think they go to the back of the pack..so now during busy time I would pay the shipping and hope for the best. You will be able to track it so easily on Amazon that you can tell where it is exactly! I think you will get it in time with standard shipping
