Amazon add-on items frustration

We've been amazon prime members for several years now, but this whole add-on item deal is annoying me. I want to order three of one add-on item (street hockey pucks, in this case) but since they're classified this way, I can't even order multiples and have them shipped to me!

So, Im not allowed to buy something from their website. Even if i wanted to pay shipping. Doesn't that seem odd? The total for the items is $15, but I need to spend $25....

I understand the need to reign in shipping costs, but there isn't even an option for me to pay to ship them!

Just venting out of pure frustration....:(

I've got an easy fix for you!! Find an item that is a pre-order (I usually pick something shipping several months out) and add it to your cart, and check out. Video games are a really easy thing to find, or movies. Then, once your add-on items have shipped, just cancel your pre-order item. It worked like a charm for me! I hate the whole add-on item thing too, by the way. If I'm paying for Prime, I want FREE shipping!

That is a GREAT idea!!

Even worse, Amazon has quit shipping some items to Alaska at any price. Until a little over a month ago, we ordered all our cat food from Amazon. Now, I can't get it shipped even if I pay for the shipping. I don't know why they don't offer parcel post for AK and HI. This has caused my weekly cat food bill to go from $28 to $54 :faint: --and my local pet store doesn't do a very good job of keeping what I need in stock. Sigh . . .

you know what I discovered last week? amazon prime is ...terrible- using the free month? oh sure....lots of free shipping everywhere I looked, and SO fast!:thumbsup2 sign up for the service and pay the fee? wow....where did all the free ship items go? Oh, you mean I have to pay EXTRA to watch an episode of an old tv show that APPEARED to stream as part of prime membership...and on and on. I don't like the service, and the lack of items that ship using prime is disheartening. I truly believe what I saw when using the free trial, and what I see now is different.

I don't understand , I haven't paid shipping on anything forever with Amazon Prime, except for outside seller items here and there. It saves us boatloads of $$ every year. To me, the streaming is just a free bonus, since we were Prime members for a long time before they added that.

Same here. I can't remember the last time I paid shipping and I place orders all the time. Free streaming is only available to the lead member. DH & I share the prime account but we have up use my log in to get free streaming. I don't think theres a great movie selection but I watch old tv shows all the time that way.

I hear ya...used to LOVE amazon...but they've removed some shows from the prime streaming and are doing those 'add ons.' I was doing amazon mom for diapers but couldn't get them in two days and the prices just kept going up and it was harder to reschedule shipments. I keep my cart full of items so it tells me if the prices have gone up or down and lately i ve seen some big price i creases. I'm starting to find that there are better deals elsewhere. We cancelled prime earlier this year and I think it had actually saved us money bc we are less likely to impulse buy this way.

My 8 year old found another way around it (when he ordered a piece of crap toy off Amazon on my Prime account :furious:) He just ordered a $25 Amazon gift card.

I'm sorry you're having trouble.
Count me as one who has never had an issue. I place about 2 orders per week and have not had any problems at all. :confused3

I too have come across those add on items. I also have prime. Next time I see an add on I will think about pre-ordering something and then canceling it after I get the add on item. I don't like to play games but it appears thats the only way to do it. I rather see an option to pay alittle more if you don't want it as an add on item.

I agree. I paid for Prime to not have to worry about shipping..no matter what I order...now these 'add on' items keep popping up. For those of you who have had no problems..yet..you may also find yourself running into this. I think every three or four items I order I run across one that is now classified as 'add on' and not super cheap items either. I also set up a subscription for a supplement and instead of sending me the item THEN setting up future shipments, it set up the FIRST shipment for 30 days out..so now I have to wait for the item I ordered May 4 to ship June 4..and couldn't find a way to fix that.:confused3.
Pretty sure I will not pay for another year of Prime. The streaming isn't that great and find Netflix is just as good and cheaper (free actually since we share our DD account)

I don't know what you're talking about; what you posted isn't correct. Perhaps you are looking at items from Amazon Market Place sellers, not Amazon itself. They do charge shipping.

I do dislike the add-on program.

I too have had issues with the subscribe and save where I have to wait for a month or more for the product to come in yet it says it is a prime item shipped in 2 days. I decided never to use the service in the future. I too get frustrated with the add on items. I already decided this is my last year with Prime. They used to put a bunch of movies and shows on prime every month but I am noticing there are very few new every month now. If anyone is interested in letting Amazon know how you feel about thes things here is the address for corporate sorry I don't have an email:

I actually love the add-on items. I thought it was a great idea. As I understand it it's for items that normally sell as a group. I buy gluten free stuff for DS and some of the things I want to try are only available as a pack of 4 or 6 and it's a crazy amount of money. Now that they have this I can purchase just one to try it. I never have trouble finding things I've had in my cart to add up to $25. Not that I use this a lot, but I love it.

True..it's easy to find items to add up to $25, but then why pay Prime if you spend $25 and get free shipping anyway?

Free streaming does not come with the free Prime Membership.

When you do the Mom membership you get the free shipping but not the free streaming. Same with a trial membership.

If you pay for the membership, you WILL get the free streaming on shows they say will be included.

Because with prime it comes in two days instead of super saver.
It may vary by area, but if I get things shipped super saver it takes up to a couple weeks. I don't want my food hanging out in the mail that long.
