The trip sounds like a fabulous opportunity, but is just way so overpriced for a 3 or 4 day event. I really think it's aimed at wealthy philanthropists, who sometimes like to get perks in exchange for their donation$$$.

You could also take a 10 day/9 night ABD to South Africa, including safaris, for way less than that. The difference would probably pay for your airfare.

I've already blown a couple of years' worth of vacation money on this year's ABD trip. Sorry Dr. Jane, I must miss out!

If I was incredibly rich, I would do this in a heartbeat. Dh and I attended an event at K-State (kansas university) several years ago and absolutey loved her. Of course, we only had to pay around $40 a person. Still, I wish I had the money to do this, I think it would be an incredible time.

With all due respect, Jane Goodall has done more for the planet than anyone I can think of, living or dead. These are fundraising events for her institute, which does invaluable work in the understanding and conservation of some of the earth's most valuable natural treasures.

This kind of preservation work isn't cheap, which is why the price is so high. To even insinuate that Dr Goodall is profiting personally from this is disgusting, as is comparing this to frivolous trips and bags. Without Dr. Goodall's work, everyone on the planet would be less well off. Can't say that about Disneyland Paris (WDW maybe, but not Paris).

Anyone having this amount of money couldn't invest it in many things more valuable to mankind and the planet.

Others have said that they have taken classes with Ms. Goodall and met her at seminars. I'm sure Disney is taking a wide swing at this money. We all know Disney smores dont come cheap.

Is it EVERY moderator's job to be snarky towards me? Just because I take my children to WDW, that automatically means I don't care about nature? I've been a monthly donator to Jane Goodall Institute of Canada for years now, and have done work with her "Roots and Shoots" outreach campaign.

Again, this is a fundraising event, and the Institute knows that they will get a sold out event at these prices. The money goes to a very valuable cause. What would you have them charge? Any less would mean less money for the Institute.

I read this thread through again, I don't see anywhere where anyone insinuated that Dr. Goodall would be profiting personally from the program.

As for the second part, you made a snide judgement on someone else's trip and choice of luggage in a tone that implied you would never do such a thing in the face of saving nature. well as a fundraiser, i guess this provides Goodall access to a few additional uber rich she might otherwise not have encountered.....
i suppose there are disney fans who happen to be very rich and enjoy these sorts of VIP events.....
goodall, as a fundraiser for her institute, is no doubt happy to meet new super rich from whom to fundraise now and in the future...

Jane Goodall is a legend. And I think she has done wonderful and brillant work. But 8,500 for a weekend. Yowsa. I just put less than that as a downpayment on a car.
