Amazing halftime show

I'm clearly in the minority, but I thought it was just ok! I like Gaga, but I have such high expectations for a shock value or something really new and unique, and I didn't feel like we got any of that. She's a great dancer and phenomenal singer, and I think all the songs she chose were great, but no real "WOW!" moments for me. She's very talented and entertaining, but since she's known for being so outside the box, I expected something more.

Starting on the roof, drone show behind her, jumping off he roof.....Not sure what more you were looking for.

I kind of feel like this too. It was just meh for me. I am not much of a fan of her music so that may have been part of the problem.

I did like how she opened with God Bless America and she does have a great voice.

I truly do not understand the fascination female pop stars have with the body suits. No one, NO ONE, looks good in that particular garment. What happened to pants? Or skirts? Or even short shorts, I'm not choosy. Just SOMETHING to balance out the totally covered up on top and nothing on bottom look. Everyone at my house laughed a lot at the mic drop and squirrel dive. We thought that was just ridiculous.

I also liked how she didn't bring in a lot of other artists, the whole show was just her. I do disagree with those that say a lot of artists can't carry an entire halftime show themselves. It's 13 minutes. Everyone chosen to do the halftime show, since they started using headliners anyway, puts on concerts lasting a few hours, many with production values not that far off from a halftime show, minus the fireworks but some acts even use those in their shows. Any of them can carry 13 minutes on their own. If they didn't have enough music to fill 13 minutes they wouldn't be doing the halftime show.

My husband seemed shocked that this country gal knew both Poker Face and Bad Romance and sang part of them before she started. Too funny that she started and ended with those two, lol. We thought she was great. Soooooo much better than last year's mess.

LOL my DH just hates Bad Romance, whenever we have a argument I change his ringtone to it. :rotfl: Passive/aggressive :rotfl:

I thought it was really really good. She is not my type of music but thoroughly impressed she carried the whole show & it appears no lip-syncing:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Ordinarily I agree with you about the bodysuits. Here I thought it worked for a couple reasons. One, it provided the skeleton for the serious rigging needed to safely come down from the roof and make an attempt at a couple aerial tricks. Two, the boots helped balance the lower half and the cut around the thighs and bum managed to be relatively modest without being frumpy -- as a former dance mom I can promise you that's not an easy balance to strike. IMO her finishing look was fashion gold & I suspect that top will show up as a fashion influence and reference point before too long.

I was quite surprised as I fully expected her to go for a shock and awe moment. I was pleased she went with a joyous celebration and a quality performance accessible to everyone. I'm ready to be blown away with your talent and your artistry. IMO the shock value moment is seriously overdone and has been since late eighties/early nineties Madonna.

It was just my opinion. The roof/drone/jump thing was cool, although it was pre-recorded. I read this morning the FAA would not permit that to be done live. But her repelling from the ceiling and landing on the stage was live of course. I don't think it was a bad performance by any means, just safe by Gaga standards. I was glad she did not go the political route, though.

One thing that turned me off from her was I used to feel like she was going for shock value. It's hard to see her talent when she's doing completely outrageous things.
Her performance last night was phenomenal. It showed her talent. She did have some 'wow' moments but they were subtle (well subtle for her) and I think that really made her shine more than just a shock value moment. Her talent as a performer really blew me away and that's coming from someone who did a major eyeroll when I heard she was doing the halftime show.

Yeah I'm definitely not contesting her talent. I've always known she was talented. But for someone who gained notoriety for wearing a meat dress, I expected something out of the ordinary for one of the biggest shows of her career on one of the biggest stages. Even her costumes were relatively normal. I think, though, that as her career progresses and she's getting older, she's definitely scaling back on the "weirdness" that she came up on. I think that all started with her collaboration with Tony Bennett.

Yeah probably with Tony Bennett. As someone who didn't appreciate her talent before she started to win me over when she toned down the sick. I get it though. She did that to make her name. I like that now she's standing on her talent.

I thought her message was loud, clear, and very appropriate.

She's not my favorite performer, though she has impressed me with her talent in recent years when she started to drop the antics. I loved the intro with the lights in the sky and the jump from the roof.

I loved the performance. To be able to move/dance like that, and still sing? Incredible. Try it sometime...it's hard. Few stage acts do that. She was moving constantly. The outfit changes were incredible! Was she shocking? Nope. And while I kind of expected it, I was glad it didn't happen. Too many varying groups of people watching the show. It's hard to appeal to little kids, teens, young adult, mature adults and seniors! So, her lyrics said what she wanted said. I think anything really shocking would have taken away from the show.
When everyone at our party couldn't figure out how they made the 'stars' do what they did, a few of us just shouted 'Drones'!!! People couldn't believe that!
Perfect half time show for that game!!

If you look at the lyrics to This Land Is Your Land and Born This Way you'll see she was definitely delivering a message.

She did deliver a message, but to me it was subtle and not the focus.

For me, last night, she was playing for the audience, not necessarily her fans. If she had been full 'Gaga' I think there would have been controversy and statements (and major eye rolling from her fans).

As soon as she came out in that outfit, I knew someone was going to body shame her! And I doubt she's bothered at all! I was thrilled to see that she had a stomach! We all do. She's in incredible shape. What a great example she set for those with less than perfect bodies....about 95% of us!!!
Exactly! I was happy to see it! And she's clearly comfortable with her own body, which is great.
