In 2003 we tried to book the Coronado and it was full. Determined not to have that experience again I reserved in the summer of 2004 for summer 2005.
So...we arrive quite rested at the Coronado at 1 p.m. after the second (shorter) leg of a 13.5 hour drive. As the clerk takes our checkin information she quickly says "I'm sorry, a large party booked the hotel and we have no more rooms." I then blurt out that we had made reservations a long, long time ago and she goes into a back room.
The clerk then comes out and we are told that we are staying at the AKL at no extra cost! Well...I'm sorry but our reaction was rather casual as we still had not gotten over the shock and I asked my daughter if it was ok. "Sure Dad" was her reply. It ended up that we absolutely loved the resort and are coming back just a month later for more! Whoever the clerk was, thank you so much, we really appreciated it...
