just for fun I thought I'd look up some 4 bed/3 bath homes on realtor.com. I was shocked to see house after house for around $65k. Property history shows they sold for around $200 k in 2005 and 2006! I so wish I could talk dh into moving to FL. We could sell our house and buy a new one down there and still have 40-50k leftover!:cool1:

I thought the same thing, I looked it up also. If DH could find a guaranteed job, I'd be packing!

We are seriously thinking of moving in that area in June. My dh's company here is not doing well, we figure if he has to start over, might as well be where we want to live and we both agree that we would love to live there. Doing lots of research :surfweb:

It's nice to know I'm not the only one with crazy dreams!
I love living in PA because I have lived here all my life, we're near family and i love seeing the season change...but I hate, hate, hate winter and the cold with a vengence. Ever year it bothers me more and more. My hands and feet are always frozen from Nov-March and our house was built in 1875 so every time we turn around it needs more work done on it.
We all love hot weather, the beach etc(even though we are fair skinned with blue eyes and blond hair-except for dh-lol)

Kissimmee- eh not so much. My MIL lived there and got out a year and half ago. It was really getting sketchy. It doesn't have the "magic" of Disney. There is a reason it's so cheap. Do a quick sex offender search. It'll :scared1: you off of Kissimmee.

Now that being said I am sure there are some nice areas. MIL just wasn't in one of them.

Many of the places I was looking at are not directly in Kissimmee city ...they are to the west/south of there by a little bit!

There are tons of good deals right now down here. Unfortunatley our job market isn't great. House in our neighborhood sold for 40grand. That is really depressing for us. I guess if you are at retirement age it would be a great time to move. I personally can't wait to get out of here at least for 6months of the year. I can't give up Disney completley :rotfl:

LOL I just noticed that you're from PA too. There are some family members that we're hanging around for, that and DH's job. We're itching to move, and the warmth is really appealing. (Despite that we were there in Dec and it was *freezing*... like PA freezing.) The cold and darkness really get to me too, and like you, ever year it feels worse.

What's up with all the sex offenders in Kissimmee? Is Disney a magnet for kiddie touchers or something??

I could cry looking at those-- they're $300k houses here. I'd happily live in any of those, especially at that price!

I could cry, too! Those are beautiful houses at reachable prices!

But I really hope we haven't gotten someone's hopes up by hitting those links so much. Can you imagine a realtor telling the seller that there were 30,000 hits on their home today? YIKES!

Good call, I'm going to leave it up to show DH "just beacause" but yeah, I'll stop clicking now! It's just us crazies from up here in PA.

I just did a search for a 4br, 2+ bath and anything worthwhile (there are a few that are "iffy") with those specs around here is easily $350k. Even worse, those $350K houses are decades older than the FL houses.

I'd do an Eyes-On search of any area that you are considering before you make an offer. Some of the neighborhoods are not so good.

A lot of Florida's housing market is in the crapper. It is bad down here. NOt all areas but a lot of them.

Yeah, higher crime...I live in Poinciana...and the housing prices are AMAZING...but the crime and amount of empty lots around me....not so much...

Low housing prices are there for a reason...Kissimmee is not all wishes and pixie dust unfortunatly

Crime as in North Philadelphia "locked gates on your front door/bars on your windows/children killed in the crossfire of drug deals gone wrong" crime or "mostly misdemeanors with a felony here and there" crime?

That hurts, seeing those prices. That house would easily be $300,000 or more where I am.

Anyone know if there are property taxes down there?

WOW those would be at easily be 1-1.5 million dollar homes around here.:scared1:

I love where I live (Toronto) but there is just no way I'll be able to own a home in a nice neighbourhood any time soon. Even house prices in the suburbs are creeping up steadily. I would love to move somewhere with more affordable real estate but unfortunately, as a Canadian citizen, I can't just pack up and head to Florida. But my goodness, those house prices are amazing!

I noticed one of the 3 houses listed in the links, had 2010 taxes of just over $2K.

Those are some awesome prices....and I would think would make nice vacation homes.
