Amahl and the Night Visitors

Has anyone here ever seen it? It's a opera, about a shepherd boy who is visited by the three kings on their way to see baby Jesus. It under an hour. DH and I are playing in the pit orchestra for two weekend performances of it in Buffalo, NY. It's a great way to start the Christmas season- if you ever have a chance to see it- go. It's a great first opera, if you've never been- short, funny, and very moving.

I've seen the original film, done, I believe, for NBC. We also studied it in 8th grade, in our music opera unit.

I was in the chorus of a production of Amahl when I was in college. It is a beautiful story and a great way to begin the holiday season.

I loved Amahl and the Night Visitor!! Haven't seen it, tho, since I was a kid.

I saw it two years ago performed by music students at the University of NC-Greensboro. Very well done and a great opera.

Yes! We sang several songs from A&tNVs in choir back in high school. I still remember every song word for word.

Well, just got back from the last performance tonight. Took three of my kids (7,9, and 11) When it was over, ds-11 came up to me and asked me to be sure to let him come to any more operas I perform in. They all squawked when I told them they were coming- they had never seen an opera and had a certain image of what it would be like. They couldn't believe it would be funny, and very, very moving.

This was my first time playing it- I had never seen it before either. I'll be looking for it on tv this year for sure.
