We're bouncing around a few different resorts but when I look at the numbers, I think the PIN I got today for free QSDP isn't such a big deal.

One of the resorts is CBR in a pirate room

Under the % off deal our July stay would be $2266
Under the GC plan it would cost us $2784 but we'd get a $500 GC so it really would cost us $2284. The GC would be used for meals, both QS and TS

Under the PIN for QSDP the same deal would cost $2784, no GC but free QSDP. We have 6 TS meals booked. I don't want to pay extra to upgrade to the full dining plan.

I think the best deal would be the % off deal and just pay our own way for food.

How much is it per person per day to upgrade the meal plan? I thought it was $10 per person per day but I'm probably wrong. Even going with that, that means add another $240 to the cost of our trip, bringing our total to $3000.

So the difference between PIN QSDP rate and % off rate is almost $800. Are 2 adults and one kid really going to spend $800 on food in 8 days? My husband and I don't really do breakfast.

This whole thing probably doesn't make sense. My head is spinning trying to decide what to do. My husband wants me to wait and go at the end of August and hold out for the free TS dining plan but I still think that'll cost us more.

Normally the room only pins are better for moderates and pretty much a given for deluxe. If you were in a value it would be a better deal for the QS pin but probably not in a mod.

You have to take into account number in your party, your normal eating habits, and where your planning on dining.

$800 on food for 3 for 8 days ($100 per day) seems about the same as you'd spend oop - figure $10 pp (3) per meal (2) = $60 per day. Plus 2 snacks pp (3) at $5pp = $30, so that's $90 per day. Plus, qs gives you the refillable mugs, so if you fill them daily once that would be around $10 value, getting you to $100. Since equal, the mugs and the piece of mind of not needing to worry about what you're spending seems to make including the qs plan a good idea.

You mention 6 ts meals - but that you're not interested in upgrading from qs to ddp - but I'd have a cm price it out for you and then sit down and figure out what you're paying oop to go to those ts - with that many ts, it may work out better to upgrade. I figured out what we are saving on DDP compared to OOP, and it's a 30% savings, but your calculation is going to depend on where you're going.

It just depends on your party size and preferences. For us it was a great deal but I can see how it is not a huge one for your family. I think the more adults you have (we have 4, since Disney counts our kids as adults) the better the free QSDP is.

Have you looked at the prices for table service? Are you doing buffets? I know I can't figure any prices for you on other types of table service since I don't know what you would be eating. But if you are eating 6 table service and one other meal per day, yes you probably will spend atleast 800, especially if you aren't penny pinching.

Say you are having dinner at Crystal Palace:
28.99 per adult, 13.99
So 71.97
Add Tax of 4.68 (guessed at %)
Tip of 10.80
Total = 87.45

Say you do a Pinochio's (counter service) for lunch sharing 2 items between the three of you.
Individual cheese Pizza with salad 7.99
6 chicken nuggets with fries 6.89
2 drinks $4
Total 18.88
tax 1.23
Total 20.11

Total for the day with no snacks, sharing your lunch = 107.56
Just looking at the days you are eating those table service that is already 645 for days you are eating table service. Leaving only $155 for the other two days together. and that doesn't include any snacks and that is a pretty decent price for a counter service meal for three.

Obviously that means you are running pretty close to the 800, but you will probably get more food for that 800. And you won't have to worry about the sharing.

ok...here was our situation...originally booked with % off....great savings. Seriously a little over $700.00. We are staying at POR. Parents were going to stay offsite, but then were offered %off deal and were able to afford to come over and stay with us at POR....

We have 5 people in our family : Me, husband, DS11(who is considered adult), DS 8 and DD5.

We were then offered free QS Dining...called CM and they priced it out for me(WITH THE UPGRADE TO REGULAR DDP) and we saved $200.00 MORE on QS dining plan pin rather than % off....Total Savings over $900.00 WOW!! (and once again this included the upgrade to reg ddp)

My parents on the other hand have their own room...already have % off and they also were given QS dining plan...BUT for the 2 of them it would have increased their room rate by around 150.00 to participate in the QS dining pin(WITH THE UPGRADE TO REG DDP) rather than the % off room rate.

So, needless to say it was a very big deal for us.....but not for my parents... We are under the QS pin and they are under the % off pin....

I really agree that it has everything to do with your party size. This is a perfect example.

Were both the original reservation with the percent off code and the reservation with the free qsp including the DDP?

I was trying to mess around with your numbers and see if I could figure it out but realized I couldn't do that with the info you have..lol.

We got the QS pin today too. We were doing the regular dinning plan with gift cards. We ended up getting $1400 total off of our packages price but are not getting the gift cards. We have 3 rooms at the movies

i think it depends how you eat, My kids won't eat hurgers and nuggets very often, so we do regular dining,
we kept kept a loose total last time then I subtracted things we normally wouldn't have ordered like desserts and most of the snacks, The meal plan still saved us about $400
we are going 15 nights (14 on the plan) we had booked CSR with 2 kids (6and 8) we booked with the 35% off out total was $4450 with regular meal plan and 10 day base ticket.
Then we got the free dining pin called and checked those numbers, we lost the % off and went with that, it saved enough that we were able to bump DS to a 10 year old with what we saved and upgrade to the reg dining for all of us and we still came out $40 ahead
before with the room only discount it would have been $448 to upgrade DS to a 10 year old for that time frame

we just got that pin and we thought about it but the rate quoted in the email doesnt seem that low. i feel like we may have done better with the regular free dining code last sept when room rates were lower than this pin when the room rates are higher, plus the cost to upgrade to a few more meals or the out of pocket for the meals. if the email says starting at this rate does that include just the room and free meals or are the tickets already factored in? b/c if the rate they are giving us in the email is w/o park tickets for us its the same as using the room discount too if we decide to go.

sorry to hijack your post but i find the same pin-code offer to be confusing too and wanted to know what people were thinking.

The room rates for the pin for free quick service dining are rack rate, just like they were when you got the free dining. Yes free dining is a better deal, not to mention you were paying less for your room since rack rates in the fall are lower than rack rates in the summer.

i have not seen the email, however since to get a dining plan you must have a package and to have a package you must have tickets, it only makes sense that the quote would include the tickets.

Original pkg deal with NO DISCOUNTS AT ALL...NOTHING...IT WAS BLACKED OUT AT THE TIME: $4454.13 this included....

POR...5 people dh, me, ds (11) ds 8, dd 5, 7 day park hopper pass ,AND ddp(1ts,1qs,1 snack)

Blackouts are lifted and we chose to use the % off....better deal than the gift card offer. This brought us down to : $3861.51 (no trip ins)

Quick service dining offered for free...cm ran numbers from original quote of $4454.13 AND ADDED THE FEES TO UPGRADE TO REGULAR DDP....TOTAL CAME OUT TO: $3508.58.

Total savings from the beginning: $945.55 :woohoo::woohoo:popcorn::

So the free qs dining was AMAZING FOR OUR FAMILY AS YOU CAN SEE...even with the upgrade....

You can only image how happy we are:banana::banana:

Now my parents received the %off and have stuck with it ever since....this was a better deal than gc or free QS dining (upgrading to ddp)....It's because there is only 2 of them....they got an amazing deal on the rooms with the % discount as well.

All prices include tax....

Hope this helps..

OP, for US, I would agree. We are 2 adults only and while we do eat counter service, we enjoy at least one good sit down meal a day. I got 3 pins for QS yesterday and wasn't even tempted to use them.

So,I guess it depends on you whether it's a 'deal' or not.

For us, the QSDP really saved us quite a bit of money, because 2 of our 3 kids are priced as adults by disney. So for us, the QSDP free pin saved us about $140 a night.

We have 5, and 3 kids that qualified under the Visa offer - saved about $600 with upgrades to DDP, PH and WP&M added.

Prior to this, we rebooked when the % off came out, that had saved us $300 over original booking which was at AAA rate.

Overall, this trip is $900 less now then it was when we booked. The big deal was that all of our kids are 9 or under.

Thanks for all the replies. It brought up things I didn't consider. It also reminded me that we have 3 character breakfasts booked and those add up. I'm going to punch a few more numbers and decide.

Thanks for the help!

I had to sit down, go through the menus and figure out what we would eat and what we would spend to decide what was the better deal.

We will spend $750 on food if going OOP. $300 on 2TS and 4CS, $205 on CRT and $245 on snacks. So, with tickets, 30% off and that OOP food, we would spend $2,220.

With Free QSDP upgraded to DDP it would cost us $182, but we would get 7TS, 7CS and 7 snacks. We would pay OOP for an additional snack/person/day ($125). That with our room at RR and tickets would be $2,283.

Not much difference after all of that planning :rotfl:, but we'd get way more with the upgraded DDP. I'd even get to add on Mickey's Backyard BBQ, which I'd like to do, but won't spend $170 OOP on.

BUT we also got the Kids Free deal and will go with that ($2,110 total with upgraded DDP)
