Am I understanding UY correctly?

Looking at purchasing a Dec UY contract. That means, for example, if I traveled in June 2018 I would be using my Dec 2017 points, correct? So, if I traveled again in Dec 2018 I would be using the new 2018 points, right? Thanks!

Yes that would be correct.

To get into it a little bit more - with a Dec UY and using points for a June 2018 stay you could use banked 2016, current 2017 or borrowed 2018 points. For the Dec 2018 stay you could used banked 2017, current 2018 or borrowed 2019 points.

Also, our potential travel times would be Dec to early Jan, Spring break, and summer (mid-May through mid-August). We would most likely do Disney early summer, but may take a trip other times some years. Based on our travel availability though, Dec is probably the best UY, right?

Choosing the proper use year provides a level of protection, some call it "free insurance" in the event you have to cancel a trip. How likely is it that you'll cancel a trip? Is it more likely at certain times of year?

My suggestion is to write down the months in the order you are least likely to travel. Choose a use year following the three consecutive months in which you'd never travel.

That's kind of how I came up with a Dec UY. Sept-Nov are the months we're least likely to travel to Disney. May, June, Dec, early Jan, and March are our most likely DVC travel months.

Yes, December UY would probably be about the best if your travel habits don't change.
