Am I too short to see WOC?

I am planning to go to DLR again somewhere around June 25. It will just be my DS 10 and myself. I am short, just under 5 feet, and my DS is about 4'3". I am worried we won't be able to see the show. I hate when I stake out a good spot for the fireworks and some tall person squeezes in at the last minute right in front of me! It would be awful if we waited all that time for WOC. We can't afford right now for the preferred dining (and I'm not even sure it would help for us shorties!) We might do the picnic thing, if it seems like it would help us out as opposed to the regular FP sections. I can forsee a meltdown after a long day in the parks if all my DS can see is the high water jets. Hey, probably for me too! :rotfl:

So, guinea pigs, what do you think? What would be the best be for us to actually see the show? I'm sure lots of families with kids who are too big to hold, but not very tall yet would benefit. :thumbsup2

I am sure you will be fine. Disney is not going to design something that people can't enjoy simply because they are short.

:goodvibes,
Dreams (who is a shorty ;) )

Hmm. Can't totally agree with that! At least fireworks are, mainly up in the sky above, and as long as you don't plop yourself behind a tree you're likely to see most of it no matter who is in front of you. But I'm not sure WOC's stuff goes UP that high.

And I certainly have had parades ruined b/c of tall people (or anyone who puts their kid on their shoulders...seriously HUGE pet peeve of mine) who haven't a clue that the 5'3" chick that they've gotten in front of now can only see shoulder blades, and NOT the parade...

I'd just try to make sure you're there early, up front as much as possible, and don't let your guard down unless the people squeezing in provide documented proof that their entire group consists of people who are all shorter than you! (and won't put a kid on shoulders)

But with a parade, everyone is on equal ground. The WoC area has tiers so your odds of this happening are less likely.

Anywho - Disney knows they are creating something for all ages to enjoy. I just don't think they would "forget" about varying heights.

I got to attend the radio preview last night and can say if you can get a spot among any of the front railings of each level or pretty close to it, you should be fine. I'm short and stood behind these people around my height 2nd level near the front railing thing and could see fine. So wouldn't worry unless you get stuck further back in each section.

Molly that is a huge pet peeve of mine too. We go a lot just mom, myself and my girls and EVEN if dh went I have TWO kids and they are both getting WAY too big for him to put on his shoulders (9 and 10) So I agree it is REALLY rude not only for a big tall person to come stand in front of you at the last minute but to THEN put their kid on their shoulders. I mean don't get me wrong I know Disney is all about kids but I paid my money too and I would like to see the fireworks, fantasmic, WOC whatever it may be also AND what about MY kids who I certainly can't hoist on MY shoulders. I don't think that should be allowed. If they are worried about their kids being able to see then they should get to the show, fireworks whatever early like everyone else to get a decent spot. Ok rant over! ;)

I too am worried. We bought the dinning package but until people have actually reported back on how that goes I am nervous as well. Guess we will just have to wait and see. ;)

Well, as another shorty, I can understand your trepidation. There are lots of things that I miss out on or purposely avoid at DL/CA. I don't think it's Disney's fault necessarily--it just goes with the territory when you're short. I have the same problem when I go to the theater, performance, or what-have-you; I just have to keep my fingers crossed that someone tall (or wearing a hat) doesn't sit/stand in front of me.

When I say there are things I avoid I'm talking about those situations in which you're in the midst of a swarm of people, like trying to get to Frontierland after fireworks or a parade. I'm not particularly claustrophobic normally, but I don't like the feeling of having people all around me, shutting off my view of everything but various parts of others' anatomy.

Do any of you vertically challenged DISers ever think about bringing a 6-9 inch stool of some sort? Just curious. :goodvibes

Is it allowed ? If i stand on tiptoe I hit the 5' mark but no never thought about bringing a stool to Disneyland however I did contemplate using a rolling stool at my wedding to dance with my 6'5" husband :rotfl2:.

Do you think that security is going to let anyone in with a stool since chairs are banned in the park?. Just a thought.

Maybe you could just sit on your dh's shoulders :rotfl:.

Since so many of us shorties get peeved when parents standing in front of us put their kids on their shoulders, maybe we could ask for a turn on the shoulders  :rolleyes1

 Piggy back rides may work :rolleyes1:

So, I took this screenshot from the GMA video of WoC. (I lightened it a little in PhotoShop.)

Look at where the top of people's heads are compared to the height of the water and the imagery. I don't think short will be an issue. You don't need to see the bottom of the fountain and if the person in front of you is taller than THIS fountain, I would run for your life! :goodvibes Yes, that's the Fun Wheel in the background (makes a good reference point for how high the fountains are).

LOL! Thanks, Jack, I figured the same myself. popcorn::But, if we could being one, I'd be leading the pack!

Sadly, I think us shorter people are just going to have to hope for the best. I'm in the same situation with my dd, and not really looking forward to the mania and the tall people all holding their kids up in front of me. :sad2:

Did you look at the picture I posted? I really don't think you need to worry. :goodvibes
