Am I too old for the CP?

I am working on a hospitality managment degree and was planning on doing a semster at the CP however I am going to be 30. I plan to do a semester while my husband deploys to Iraq. What are your thoughts on this?

Hey KT27! You are never too old for the CP. I just turned 27 this year and felt I was too old, but after reading the various threads on here it helped to know I wasn't alone and that the CP program is for everyone. I think it would be a great opportunity to do the program while your husband is deployed. You will get to meet many new people and have a great time. When are you thinking of applying?

Thanks...well it looks like he may go next spring, I will know more shortly so probably summer or fall next year.

You would be waaayyyy younger than the woman I met last week who did it at the age of 57.

Wow, I thought I was too old too! I'll be 40 next year. I'm going back to school to get my Masters in Hotel and Restaurant Management. I must have missed something because from what I read, I thought they were looking college age people (meaning ealry 20's).

Maybe I don't have to give up on my dream after all!

The woman I talked to who was 57 when she did the program said that at first she was placed in apt with alot of 20 somethings but then the people that were older seemed to find each other and they changed around apts until they had an older group together...of course that takes a little time and money for the change fee but this woman sounded like she had a great experience.

Thanks, Liz!!! I have ALWAYS wanted to work for Disney! I want to change careers and I was afraid I would be too old for the CP. It seems like an excellent way to get your feet in the door and to get some practical experience.

By the way, did she stay on with Disney when the program ended?

Do you know if CP offers family housing?

Yes actually how the conversation started was she was a research CM right inside the gates of EPCOT who approached us to ask a few questions - well the question they ask about if you are in the area for business or pleasure was a little confusing to us since it was me and my daughter and we were ultimately there to take her to the college program and we would not have made the trip had we not been going for that....so anyway the conversation just took off from there.

I asked if she had any advice for Chloe and she told her to take advantage of everything she possibly could - she said they run you ragged with all the work and opportunities but to take advantage of it all.

No I don't believe there is family housing available but you can get a waiver and opt out of the college program housing under certain circumstances.

Let me be completely honest here and not throw out some pixie dust...it depends on what kind of a person you are.

I'm 22, did the CP last fall at the age of 21. There were so many people who had never left home before, even I was overwhelmed at some times of the immaturity of people both for partying and just life experience wise. Some people partied alot, and some just didnt know how to live with people period, having never done it before.

At 30, you're likely to feel out of place. It really depends on who you're rooming with though. Remember that some of these kids ARE 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and want to get drunk and party, even if you might have work in the morning. Its very much a college atmosphere at times...though like I said, it depends on whos in your building and who you're rooming with.

But all this depends on what kind of person you are. I'm not trying to be a downer, just offer a different, honest perspective.

She is really enjoying it - she works at an attraction in Future World. We were down last week and met alot of her coworkers. She plans to get her degree in hospitality management and this is just confirming it for her.
