Yep. The PP friends are technically violating federal law (and AZ state law) by not carrying it around. FWIW, the AZ law is almost word-for-word identical to the federal law. It just took a federal law and made it a state one, more or less.

I carry a drivers license. That's it.

Sorry but carrying around your birth certificate is just asking for trouble and there really is zero reason to do so. A driver's license or a state ID card should be sufficient.

Yeah, I don't know. They were just messing around, being silly with a 3rd friend who is of Mexican descent. While it was commentary on the law (which I will not debate) it was a more in jest.

I would think your drivers license would be enough ID.
As long as you can prouce a birth certificate if necessary, I don't think there's a need to carry one. As a couple of PPs have said, ID theft comes to mind should you lose it.

Birth Certificates, passports, and social security cards are all kept in our home safe and only pulled out if needed.
the only ID stuff I keep in my wallet is my license, health insurance card, and AAA card.

I used to have a wallet sized one that I would carry around. But I don't any more. No one should carry them around. They are the basis of every form of ID you have.
If someone gets a hold of your birth certificate, they can take over your identity.

I have a drivers license and my military ID with me at all times. That's enough for me, in my opinion. If they want to verify my identity beyond that, they can contact the military. They have proof that I'm supposed to be here, plus my military ID has my social security number on it.

Heck no. I have multiple copies of my birth certificate and social security card along with my passport at home and carry my driver's license with me.

It's just what they gave me. We were traveling to Vancouver by plane and I needed both my license and birth certificate because I didn't have a passport. After 9/11, we needed the kid's birth certificates to fly also.

I don't carry mine, but not because I'm paranoid about it being stolen. It is ridiculously easy to get a copy of a birth certificate once you have a license in hand, and if someone wanted to get mine (or yours) they would be easily able to do it for $10 and 10 minutes' effort.

Your driver's license should be sufficient ID. If you do not drive, most Motor Vehicle Departments will issue a non-driver picture ID.
