So in light of everything going on in Arizona, it got me thinking about carrying around my birth certificate. I understand the concerns about profiling, but totally get how porous the border is and how dangerous it has gotten for the residents. But a lot of people are saying "Who carries their birth certificate around?" Well...I do. :upsidedow Am I the only one? I have a small license-sized one that stays in my purse with me. I guess I had it because when I didn't have a passport, I needed it to go to Canada. I keep the kids' too because I need it to register them for school and sports. It's really not that inconvenient, so I'm wondering if that's such a big deal to everyone else?

I don't know---when I moved out on my own, back in the Mesozoic Era, my folks said to always keep it locked up somewhere. I haven't needed it for ID in a very long time, so no need to carry it.

Birth Certificates, passports, and social security cards are all kept in our home safe and only pulled out if needed.
the only ID stuff I keep in my wallet is my license, health insurance card, and AAA card.

I would never carry mine with me- all my copies are locked in a safe! I was looking in my moms wallet the other day and saw her social security card in there- she was carrying that aroudn with her!!!! I had her take that right out of there and lock it in the safe!

Ours are in a lockbox at home. I think I have wallet size for the kids. My DH and mine are replacement copies ordered from our states of birth. I'm not sure they offered wallet size. Didn't think to look at the time.

No it would not bother me to have to present it if needed.:confused3

SS cards are locked up as well.

I have mine locked up in the file cabinet. I figure my state-issued driver's liense is good enough identification, since a law enforcement officer should be able to tell a real one from a fake if I am ever required to produce it for police.

Oh, and my BC is about 6"x4" and is the original so it is kind of delicate. I wouldn't want to carry it around and lose or damage it.

no way! Ours are all locked up in a safety deposit box with our SS cards and passports. What happens if your purse is stolen? Talk about ID theft!

My drivers license is sufficient.

I have 2 immigrant friends who were discussing the AZ law the other day on FB and both said that they don't carry their green cards with them. They were joking that because they are both Anglo looking no one would ask them anyway. What DID strike me as funny is how many people commented that they just assumed that these woman were both American citizens.

I also worry about losing it and someone stealing my idenity.:confused3SO no keep it at home.

Locked up. Your driver's license should be sufficient evidence if needed.

I carry mine around with me all the time too. Not that I think I will need it, but it fits in the card holder so that's where it stays.

I would get a passport card. That is a license size and easy to carry. A Birth Certificate is too important to lose.
We got the card and passport, they last for 10 years, so if you think of the cost over 10 years its a really good deal!

We have wallet sized ones that I keep in my wallet for myself and my kids. We have definatly needed them a few times.

No, I don't. All our birth certificates are locked up. I'd be concerned about identity theft.

Nope, for identity theft reasons, all of ours are locked up. (Well, except mine. When my parents moved, my parents moved mine, but then Momma passed away & no one knows where anything in the house is. I need to request a new copy of mine at some point....)

I would never think to carry around my birth certificate, passport, social security card, etc. If I needed them for any reason I would have plenty of time to get them.

My husband has a green card. They are supposed to have it on them at all times, I believe.
