Going during the discounted price window, yet NOT getting any discounts? I feel like I'm getting ripped off!! I found out that if I accepted a discount, the room would get a little cheaper but the tickets and DP went up so it actually increased my total. I was truly looking forward to a discount and am jealous of everyone getting deals. I just need some reassurance that 3000 dollars for a week long vacation to Disney is worth it for the 4 of us. (6 day base tickets, DDP, staying at Pop)

And, I purchased airfare separately, so that's not included in that price. Please make me feel better.

Did you try for free dining in the fall?

My week is blacked out of free dining, and I can't change weeks. We purchased the flights through air tran who has high cancellation fees. Even if we did do it, the flights during the FD window out of my area are twice as high. So, we'd end up cancelling out any Disney discounts by paying more for air fare and cancellation fees.

Does it help to consider your lower ticket rate/lower DDP rate as a discount, at least in comparison to those of us who are just now booking our trips?

We just booked a stay at the YC yesterday for December. We're getting a good room discount, but since we didn't plan as far in advance as you did, we'll be paying the much higher ticket prices. And we're not even considering the DDP because the cost is too high now for it to be a good choice for us.

So you got a discount.

Yes, that is a little consolation to me. I'm just SO cheap! I hate being that way, but I just can't help it. LOL...I'm also not super excited to stay at Pop. It's for my girls, really. Buyer's remorse is not fun....Good Luck planning your trip!

Well sort of, but it wouldn't have lowered the price so to me that doesn't count. I wanted to see the actual price tag get smaller. But yes, I guess technically your are correct. Good eye. :)

Rule No. 1 of Disney: Nothing is ever cheap with a Disney trip. Even when you think you got a deal, you really didn't.

Have you calculated out the Dining Plan? Is it worth it for you?

You could take the room discount, pay for food as you go, and get tickets from a discounter and maybe still save a few bucks :confused3

I did. We are saving about 42 dollars by purchasing the DDP. The next time we go, we won't do the DDP because we won't be doing the special princess meals for my kids. I just wanted this trip to be so special for them, and those character meals are expensive! So this time, it is worth it but never again.

Dont be upset about staying at POP, we thought the resort was just fine.

WE're going for a week and spending over 3500 room only for 2 people. Tickets and meals not included. So, the price you are paying is good. Disney is expensive no matter how you do it.
DDP doesn't work for 2 people. We figure it is better to pay for meals as we go and get the room discount. We find that we pay less for our meals than the DDP costs, so for us it has always worked out better this way.

I guess it must be families staying in one room that finds the DDP worthwhile. I've never done the math and had it work for us.

To tell the truth, I often wonder why FD is so popular. WE buy a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter and that does a good few meals along with some fruit. Throw in one good meal a day and we're all good! Guess we don't do as much of the fancy dining as some.

What week are you going? We are going December 3rd to 10th. Booked the trip in March. I happened to call Disney in May and found out I had a FD pin number that is still good until 8/12 to book. If you have been to Disney before did you ask them if you had a pin in your name? I get pin numbers about 4 times a year. My dates are not included in the dates that just came out. It's worth trying. By the way tickets prices did go up between the time I booked and the time I got the pin number. My TA just added the pin to my reservations so no price change there.

Free dining saved us over $2000 for three rooms.

Where are you staying? We are going for a week cost for 2 less then $2000 with airfare and upgrading our free dining.

If we weren't doing the 4 big character meals that we are, it wouldn't have been worth it for us either. I see the value in it for families with young kids, if that's what they want. I have talked to other couples using it and they agreed that it was not worth it for them either.

No pin for me as of two weeks ago. I will keep trying though. We are going October 12 - 19.

Columbus Day week is usually blacked out for discounts. My family seriously considered going that week until I did a lot of research, asked alot of questions here and realized that there was a good chance there might be no discount that week and we changed our week in early April well before I purchased airfare.

I know. I'm a teacher, and it was a short week for Maryland schools, not because of Columbus Day, we have school then. There's a convention on that Friday so that is why we picked that week. Those dates are actually within the RO discounted timeframe this year though. They just weren't help to us with the package that we purchased.
