Am I the only one?

I said this before when the topic came up. I read the POS, and it never occurred to me that you could rent and it not be commercial. I thought that since you could not get money for transfers, you could not get money for renting.

OK, I was wrong.

There is an important difference between renting and transferring points from MS's perspective. If an owner rents out a reservation and the renter does not pay, the owner can cancel the reservation. MS isn't involved in the resolution of the dispute.

If Owner A transfers points to Owner B and B does not pay, A is going to call MS and demand to have the points transferred back. But what if A is a scammer and B did pay, in which case B will call MS and say "I did pay and I want those points back!" But maybe B is a scammer, did get the points from A but did not pay and wants free points? MS does not want to be in the middle of the dispute so by putting a "no payment for transfers" policy in place, they can stay out of it.

I don't know for a fact that this is why the policy is there, just speculating.

What" boards" are you talking about? Disney certainly doesn't control the DIS and AFAIK, they do not control any of the many other internet forums.

Sorry to keep my comment short... I was referring to Boards of Directors... The ones who control the budgets/maintenance fees...

There's another important difference, renting is expressly allowed in the POS and transferring is at the mercy of DVD.

This, from someone who has a grand total of 4 posts.

John

this is not one of the disney boards i frequent,i generally find the posts and attitudes on this site particualy offensive and very unfriendly.. but once in a while i read post and when i feel someone is being treated unfairly i speak up,just because i do not post does not mean i do not read

Half the time I post and do not read! The answers to what I ask is generally on the same thread page or one prior. :faint:

Have you found anything in your DVC documents to support the opinions you have stated in this thread where you feel someone is being treated unfairly?

Offensive attitudes can be in the eye of the beholder especially when those who quote from the DVC documents are called "misinformed" by others. Any documentation for your claims would still be very welcome.

Odd from someone with just 5 posts. I find these boards to be particulary friendly, especially the DVC boards. Love this site!

Wasn't sure where to post this or if this will get me banned from this site for life...but I have to speak out. I have been a DVC member since 1992 and I have seen many changes; mostly instituted by Disney themselves and so I had to go with the flow or find an alternative vacation spot(Never!) That being said I can't keep quiet any longer...Am I the only one who feels that some DVC owners/members have turned their ownership's into a small business venture?Am I wrong in assuming that you no longer NEED to be a member to stay at DVC resorts on a point basis????? No wonder I have such a difficult time getting reservations at my home resort...someone (who didn't have to wait, excited or anxiously to be approved to participate in the "club" and then take out a small mortgage to join or who continues to pay increasing monthly maintenance fees to keep up with the wear and tear from non members who don't care to treat this as a home away from home) always seems to beat me to the ressie. What's so special about being a member anymore? I could have saved myself and my family thousands of dollars by just contacting someone (on this site!) anytime I wanted to go on vacation. It's shameful and it makes me very sad

How is it that you post this when most of your other posts involve trying to rent points from others????? Something doesn't add up here.

But those 5 posts are all in this thread! I venture to suggest, especially based on the screen name, that this is the same person as the OP, coming here to defend him/her self. However, as I understand it, it is against the rules for one person to have more than one name on these boards. Is that right?
