Am I The Only One With SIMPLE Expectations?

I agree with you. Just being at Disney is great. Our needs were always simple. We approach the check in desk with a smile on our faces.

Thank you for this wonderful post. I really did think we were some kind of weirdo’s by not complaining. :rotfl2:

We think Disney is for happy times and not putting salt on every snail.

No, you are not the only one.:thumbsup2

I think I'll subscribe to this thread to use for future reference.:)

Life is 10% what happens to you, 90% how you react to it!:thumbsup2

I really thought that I was just too optimistic :confused3 . Or maybe I didn't have the "sophisticated palet" that some posters seem to have :guilty: .

When I'm at WDW, I tend to have those rose colored classes on. Sometimes it's forced, mostly it's just a Disney spell. :wizard:

I've spoke to people who only had memories of the crowded park, rude people, hard beds, bad food, long waits and anything else that we all deal with when we are there. Usually, YOU decide if you had a overall nice vacation or not! :yay:

i agree also! i have read threads about disney declining and getting dirty and rude cm's stc. i have never experienced anything but a great time at disney! not everything was perfect but it never ruined any of my trips. i smile at check in and comment on the beautiful resort and how nice it is to be here and say thank you. i do agree that every resort has pros and cons i like some more than others. while at the dolphin i thought the buse service was very slow and not very good, but i saw the situation as we got to walk to dhs and epcot so that is the trade off. i did not yell at any cm's nor take it out on the bus driver its not their fault. in fact we got off at the swan walked over to the dolphin so some more seats on the bus were free for more people. cm's are people too and they deserve to be treated with respect and to be given thank yous. people seem to be TOO demanding and not enough gratitude.

i think it helps to have basic manners in this day and age which seems to be lacking. if you walk around disney all grumpy and with an attitude of 'what can people do for me i paid money for this trip.' you bound NOT to have a good time.

As someone who has done compulsive research on every aspect of this trip:

The reviews that are completely negative are the ones I completely ignore. There may be some absolutely valid information there that would be helpful to know, but it gets swallowed up in all those nit-picky details. So the entire focus of the review is lost.

To be honest, we booked the room we wanted. An upgrade would be amazing, but probably isn't going to happen. That's OK; we didn't pay for one.
Towel animals would make us smile, but we didn't pay extra for them, so we're not expecting any; my kids don't know yet that they exist.
Constant hellos and alohas? Hey, I'm from New York, enough said there.

When I'm at work, I try to do my job to the best of my ability. Occasionally I make an error, then I try to fix it as soon and as well as reasonably possible. I expect the same from other people I deal with. I also know that in a large resort, as in any job, things must be prioritized. So my request for extra towels may take a back seat to a medical emergency in another room or to a broken water pipe in someone's bathroom.

I'm basically a happy person and try to surround myself with people who see the world the same way. People who find fault with every single detail of anything are people I choose to ignore.

Awesome post from the OP! :thumbsup2

I've been around on the DIS for over a year now and in the build up to going this past April I was mortified over what I was going too. All I ever found was negative reviews on All Star Sports, I seriously began to wonder if I would have been better staying at The Hollywood Tower hotel rather than Sports!

Every review I seemed to stumble across was negative towards this hotel, in the end I just tried to forget and decide for myself when I got there. Thank goodness I did, as I really enjoyed it, infact, I loved it and would stay there again in an instant.

I just don't know what people expect from Disney, or other places for that matter anymore. I understand that we all want our value for money, but as long as I have a clean, safe room to put my head down on, then I'm happy. I'm glad to see this just isn't me :)

At the end of the day, you've paid all that money, so you've got to make the holiday fun and fantastic, and not depend on Disney and the CM's to provide everything for you on a plate, then if a little Pixie Dust does come your way, it's a great bonus! :thumbsup2

Completely agree! :worship:
When you are at Disney, you are supposed to have on rose colored glasses!
As PP stated, Your vacation is what you make of it. If I keep focusing on the negative, then I will have a horrible vacation.
But if I let the bad slide off and focus on the fact that I am in one of the greatest places on earth, someplace that I always dreamed I would visit, with my DH and my two great kids, What could possibly be that bad?
Maybe the people who are truely negative will decide not to visit again soon and the parks would be a little less crowded (and more upbeat) for the rest of us.:rolleyes1

I am very disappointed in this thread. I had much higher expectations and I can say I will never read another Grace&Carolinesmom thread again.......

:worship: Just kidding, well said ....AMEN!

To OP, no you are not alone!!! I agree 100%
Sometimes it seems that the majority of people are the "It is all about ME" group.
We all paid a LOT of money for our trips. But I do not expect a perfect vacation. To the contrary I EXPECT some problems. The difference is that I also expect to deal with them and to have a wonderful trip in spite of them. And I won't dwell on them or report them back here on the DIS.
Thanks OP for the post

good thread!

I was talking with my kids about the YOAMD...they were all excited about having the chance of winning something. Then they asked me what my "dream" was.

I said..."Just to go to Disney and see the look on your faces as you experience it for the first time".

Everything else is gravy :)

You have stated what many of us were already thinking. The Magic is relative....

We have never had a bad experience at WDW. Some experiences have been better than others, but still all in all they are great! Even the transportation "challenges" are sometimes a delight. We are two adults with no children who have fun people watching. When the buses run slow at the resorts, we settle back at the bus stop and watch the parade of little princesses, pirates and their exhausted but excited parents talking about their experiences from the day before and what adventures lie ahead that day. Then the thrill on their faces when the bus rounds the corner with (insert favorite park name here) emblazened on the marquis. It's almost like the air is filled with electricity. And we usually stand on the bus and just observe. It is inevitable that you WILL see the same people numerous times at the parks and it is always good to see them having a good time. Where else can a person be a "kid" every day?!

To us, this is part of the Magic....

I agree, too. Our first trip, we stayed at CBR and our room was in South Trinidad. We were thrilled with the location and until I found the DIS (and other boards), I didn't know that was "bad"!

You can't duplicate the feeling of walking out onto Main Street in the early AM to have b'fast at the Crystal Palace. Main Street is empty...still wet from being cleaned...Castle in the distance...picking your 4 yo daughter's jaw off the street after she sees the castle for the very first time! Disney's basic service (from the Magic Express to concierge to the guy sweeping the street) is head and shoulders above the rest. Anything else is gravy! My wife got very ill one day and lost a whole day in bed*. It could have been a bug..it could have been food poisoning...we still think the trip was great! Don't expect surprizes...that's what makes them surprizes!

*Yes, I took my 4yo daughter and 2 yo son to the parks alone for a day. Bippidi bopity...photo shoot...lunch at the castle...Super dad! The best part...we get to do it all over again so that my wife can have the same fun I had that day!

The Magic is real...just enjoy!

I always wonder if I read complains like no shaped towels ore CM not greeting you all the time if these people are perfect themselves at their work?

So many people visit Disney and I think they do a wonderfull job, day in day out 365 days a year.

I totally agree with the OP. Two years ago at Pop my family and I were waiting for the bus to MK and there was a women that complained about everything the entire time, she said this hotel is no better than the average Comfort Inn (hello, it is a value resort, and it is clearly better themed), she complained that concierge (as she called it) could not get her ressies at Chef Mickey's for dinner that night (are you kidding), she complained that the CM's were rude (but from just what I heard, any CM who had to listen to her deserved a medal for patience), she complained that she had to stand on the bus when she left the park at closing, and the complaints went on and on quite honestly I have never heard someone complain like this before. I cannot imagine what she thought she was getting for $82 a night. I really believe there are people who just love to complain. The funny thing is I a was concerned about staying at a "value" resort and I fell in love with Pop, my trip was completely different they Ms. Unhappy I felt the CM's were friendly and professional, the bus service was good, meals were great and it was a near perfect trip.

I am very disappointed in this thread. I had much higher expectations and I can say I will never read another Grace&Carolinesmom thread again.......

Too funny!

Thank you for all the kind replies. It was so nice to wake up this morning and read I'm not the only one with simple expectations. Like some PPs said...I thought maybe something was wrong with me. Maybe I'm just too lazy to worry about all those things:lmao:

Like some others said, If I have a problem, I find a way to get it fixed or just accept that its a problem and move on.

Disney itself is just magical. Everytime I get in the boat for Splash Mountain and hear that familiar tune, I feel like I am 7 years old, all giddy waiting to see the squirting frogs and the bear's butt....Looking into my daughters' eyes as they watch the fireworks in awe and in complete anticipation for TInkerbelle's flight....It's MAGIC.

Who cares if a CM is quiet, the fries were cold, I didn't get turndown service, or the bus took 20 minutes... Sometimes I'm quiet or in a bad mood too, fries are still edible when cold, I can fold down my own sheets thank you, and I can get a taxi if I don't want to wait.

We are in control of our own happiness. I choose to see the glass as half full....and at Disney that glass is usually a Pina Colava:cool1:

:worship: Thank goodness SOMEONE said it lol. When I went to Disney last year all I could think is how happy I was for going back. We stayed at the Polynesian and loved it. Who cared if the rooms were a little darker....I can see it was not pitch black for goodness sakes. Everything was fine in my eyes. People go to Disney wanting EVERYTHING. They expect fine dining without reservations during busy times. They want Ritz rooms with turn downs. What was the ONLY thing I was disappointed about at Disney....the wake up call was music instead of Mickey or Stitch lol. I was so amped up for the wake up calls and all I got was music. Boooo Give me 626 yelling in my ear or Mickey saying good morning :woohoo:
People ALWAYS forget at Disney that you make your own good time too.
