Am I the only one who doesn't mind the internal buses?

Everytime a post comes up mentioning FW Transportation, people start bashing the internal buses.

People go on and on about "having to have" a golf cart (Which costs more per day than my site!)

I happen to think the internal buses run very efficiently and are extremely convienient. We take them to the pools, the settlement, the outpost, and to visit our friends in other loops. Never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a bus to come by. :thumbsup2

You are not alone, I love the busses. I don't think they are confussing, actually most campers have less walking to do than people staying at some of the deluxe hotels. The internal bus picks me up and takes me to my loop. At lets say the CR you get dropped off in front of the main building and depending on where you stay, say in a Garden wing, you have a long walk. Yep I love the internal busses.

We also love the buses. They are part of WDW to us. They have always been efficient and we've never had any major issues with them. Now, I will say that I did prefer it when FW used the trams for internal transportation, but the buses are ok too.

We'll be at the fort in 6 short days and I can't wait!

I really don't know what people expect - that the bus will show up whenever they are ready, take them directly to their destination and wait for them to take them back to their campsite? I think the busses are great - you just have to make a little extra time to get to your destination. At the risk of being flamed, I would not be too upset if the golf carts were eliminated, except for handicapped individuals. I see too much abuse of the system.

I don't mind the buses at all...I think they are a great way to get around and I have never experienced what I would call too long a wait. In fact I will be riding those buses next week...can't wait...I'm so excited.

I also agree that the bus system is efficient, We never waited more than a couple of minutes and it was very quick to get to where we wanted to go. As previously mentioned, there is some abuse of the golf carts. I think 8 people on 1 cart is not safe and I can defintely see some people being thrown off the cart while making a fast turn at higher speeds. Most are cautious though. I didn't need to rent one because we found at $45 a day, it wasn't worth the twice a day we might use it. It's a free bus ride after all. to anywhere, and air conditioned too!

We too, like the Buses, the waits to me are shorter than the Resorts. As far as golf carts, on our last trip I almost hit one drove by teenage girls who ran a stop sign, and had to stop for one who was drove by a little boy(8-9 yrs) who was being taught to drive by his mother. I think they are ok if handled properly.

We love   the internal buses and the bus drivers and agree with all that has been said. Most people do not read the info given them on the buses or look at the maps at all the stops so they don't know where they are going :confused3 but I like to talk to new FW visitors and helping them out at the stops so it all works out. We rented a cart for one day last time just to tour but can't see paying $45 to have it sit while we are at the parks. I have seen the carts stopped for having too many people in them and other abuses. Too many people consider them to be a thrill ride. :moped: We love not having to drive or park. See everyone soon in Jan.

I guess that DW and myself have been the only people ever to have stayed at FW who have waited numerous times more than 10 minutes for a bus. We have waited a max of 14 minutes on occasion. The big problem with FW and busses is that after the bus ride to the Outpost or Settlement there may be an additional wait of up to 20 minutes for another bus to get to your destination.

We have walked to our loop station and waited for a bus for 5 minutes and ultimately decided to walk to the Outpost or Settlemnt and have very rarely had the buss pass us.

There was also one time when the trip from EPCOT back to our FW site took 58 minutes with me walking from the Outpost back to our loop while pushing 3yo DGS in stroller and the Orange bus still did not make it to our loop before we got there.

We must be the unlucky ones.

That's why I said you have to add extra travel time to you schedule if you take the bus. We usually ride bikes within FW which eliminates the internal wait, although I have sometimes been lazy and taken the internal bus if I am just going to TE or Crocketts.

I think that was the proplem, there are fewer orange buses. We never stay on the orange line

We enjoyed using the buses. The kids enjoyed trying to figure out which ones were at the Settlement Outpost. I must admit though that Yellow and Orange ran a little more frequently than Purple. But I am glad I didn't have to worry about doing all of the driving every time we went somewhere.

We are not usually up and ready as early as I would like us to be so we take the bikes. It eliminates the walk time to the bus stop and the wait for the bus. Only down fall is, we are usually whipped when we get back and a relaxing bus ride would be nice. :)

I am sure my kids have had some visions of me as a character in the Wizard of Oz :stir: when I am dragging them back and forth to pick up the boat or the bus but they certainly are a time saver!

I too have had some run-ins with teens on golf carts. :scared1:

The Orange bus runs between the Outpost and Wilderness Lodge. The Yellow bus becomes the Purple bus when it reaches the Settlement after departing from the Outpost and vice versa for the Purple bus. Simply the opposite when they reach the Outpost.

As far as the Yellow and Orange busses running more frequently, that is not likely since the Yellow and Purple are the same busses.

We have been going to FW about 2 times a year since 1991. We have never rented a golf cart, always walked or rode bikes or rode the bus. They are a challange and thats all it is!! We manage to get around just fine with out the golf cart. However this next trip will be the first time we rent one because we want to drive around all the loops and see the Christmas decoration at night..

The internal busses are usually quite good, this year however I have had more of an issue with the external busses. Numerous times we got to "either end" quickly only to wait for well over an hour for the bus to where ever we were going and wait times for external busses were rarely under 25 minutes.

Still I love the transportation system in the Fort, just need to quicken up those external busses some. One of the biggest hang ups I've seen is the busses that have to stop at the water parks. They end up going an extra 20-25 minutes out of the way every trip for the water park and it really lengthens out the wait time. They need to put an extra bus on these routes or just have a bus for the water parks alone...that would at least help with the wet seats.

princess: :bounce: we love the transportation...the only snag we found was in lugging our twin stroller on and off the busses and found with it, it was much easier to drive and get it out of the back of the truck....The wait times varied and we used it to plan our strategy for that days park visit IE which to ride or see first...its a vacation after all....take time to enjoy your surroundings...the park is great..and watching the excitement in the other childrens eyes was also an added bonus!!!! :cool1: :thumbsup2  :confused3 pirate:
