the Royal Wedding?? I am already so sick and tired of hearing it. Its on EVERY news station, every newspaper, every magazine. It seems like commercials are bombarding us with it. Am I happy for them? Absolutely...good for them for finding some love. However, I don't personally know them, they don't affect my life, I will never meet them, I won't ever be involved in their lives in any way. I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just trying to understand what the hoop-lah is all about??? :confused3

Am I just not getting it?

The only reason I am excited to see it is memories I have with my Mom - when I was little we were away on vacation up north in a small motel, and my Mom woke me up at 4:30 a.m. to watch Princess Diana marry Prince Charles. My Mom passed away 15 years ago, and she never knew Princess Di was killed. Now my daughter is 15 and I want to share that with her, watching Princess Di's son get married in all the extravagance of a royal wedding. Just for reminiscing and the plus factor is that I can DVR it and watch it with my daughter at our leisure instead of getting up so early! I wish them joy and love, like I would anyone getting married - I don't know them, don't follow their lives on the news or the internet, but I just think it's kind of neat! :goodvibes

I don't care either, but my DW is PVR'ing it so I plan on leaving the house when she decides to watch the blasted thing.

I care, but also for nostalgia reasons I think. I remember watching Charles and Diana get married when I was 16 with my mum and my sisters. Like this one it was 3am (out here), but it was summer time so no work or school to worry about. Being teenagers we were all caught up in the romance of it - even though we know now there was very little romance between Charles and Diana. At least in this case it seems to be a real relationship.

My mum is also from London and remembers lining the street to watch the Princess Elizabeth (now Queen) go by after HER wedding. So yeah, I guess we are caught up in the nonsense. It is also kind of neat that in this world where so many traditions have gone by the wayside, we can still see the British put on a good show with all the tradition and pomp intact.

I really wanted to go over and watch it with my mum, but I actually have the day off work to help in my DS's school cafeteria, AND he has to be at school by 6am for a field trip, so I'll be downstairs by myself with the TV on low remembering good times past:cloud9:

I want my kids to see some of it. Technically he will be our King someday ( on our money and all) and I think they will enjoy telling their children about watching the royal wedding on TV.

I remember Chuck and Di's wedding. She screwed up one part where she said she would wed Phillip Charles Arthur George, yet she was to say Charles Phillip Arthur George. So what, she made a mistake, but I caught it when she said it and laughed (as a pre-teen).
Same pomp and pagentry now so I'm sure there are many who are 'in' to it. I'm sick and tired of the commercials for it all and all the media coverage. Just give me a good playoff game and I'll be as happy as a pig in &%(*&^^&.

Ah, you've found out my guilty secret  Love the pomp and ceremony.
Will it impact my life? No, but it will be fun to watch. I'll be PVRing it!

I completely have no interest in this wedding. I wished they would just elope so we don't have to endure any more of this :headache:

Other than the various media outlets covering it to death, I am looking forward to getting up early to watch! DH and I enjoy pomp and circumstance, especially if we don't have to get dressed up to enjoy it!

In complete truth, what bores me to absolute tears is election coverage, especially if the campaign goes on, and on, and on.

Well he is our future King so I do understand the hoopla. When Peter Phillips got married last year you barely heard anything.

I don't understand why the Americans are so excited about it all however? :confused3 At least we're part of the Commonwealth.

Honestly, the Americans are closet monarchists, lol. They get more excited about anything and everything concerning involving the Royal Family than near almost anyone in the Commonwealth.

I even have a coworker here who's become a tad obsessed in aiming to collect all the Commemorative Coins being released by the Commonwealth realms in honour of the event. To put that into perspective, the Canadian versions produced by the Royal Canadian Mint starts at C$25 and goes up to C$110; and the British versions produced by the Royal Mint start at C$15 and go straight up to just over C$8,500.

OMG I had the same thought! But I'm glad it's not just me either... even being Canadian I really don't care about this wedding.

I don't give two hoots about this wedding. I could care less. I won't be watching it because I'll be on my way to Disney World:cool1:

There is another thread with the same title on the Community Board.

I don't really care whether or not someone else is interested in it (or not)?

Watch it or don't. That's what remotes are for.

Apparently a ton of Brits are leaving the country to avoid the visitors. hahahah.

I am of English descent so I might watch a bit of it at work. It's a good news story, these two actually love each other it would seem.

Oh I can't wait! My 3 BFF's and I are having a Royal Wedding 'sleepover' LOL...one friend is making scones with Jam and Cream..another tiny tea sandwiches and I am making Strawberry and Cream Muffins with lots of English tea of course!! We will get up at 3 a.m when the CTV coverage begins and thoroughly enjoy what only the Brits can do!!!!;)

I will probably watch it with my girls but only for memory purpose plus we leave for Disney later that evening. Since they would have gotten up early, it will make it for early sleepy babies in the car LOL I have to agree that I'm sick and tired of commercials!

Wouldn't it be great if they said their "I dos" and then strolled down the aisle and out to the waiting masses and media and yelled "we're going to Disney World". LOL.
