My sister, DD and I ate at Tony's a couple of years ago. It was July and very hot. We wanted to get out of the heat for a bit and have something light to eat. So, we ordered antipasto and my sister and I each ordered a salad. The waiter looked at us rather strange and asked us if we wanted our salads at the same time as the antipasto. We told him yes. Well, we felt really silly when he brought the food. The antipasto turned out to be a salad. In fact, it was pretty close to the salads that we ordered. Whenever I've had antipasto before, it was always a mixture of cheese, salami, pickles, etc. I can't begin to tell you how stupid we felt having salad with our salad.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Well then I must be pretty dumb too... I always thought the antipasta was the same thing you did

Here if you order it, it would be a salad w/ cheese's and lunch meats.

I've seen an antipasto salad on menus before. Maybe they serve both and the waiter got confused. But don't feel silly-- typically it's the anipasto platter on the menu unless it specifically says antipasto salad.

according to the menus at Deb's site at lunch they have an antipasto salad, at dinner an antipasto platter.

The waiter should have said something to you. You were not stupid. Antipasto means different things in different places and obviously at different meals.

You should have told him at the end that you were glad his tip was included in the bill total.;)

In Italian the Antipasto means before the pasta course. It does not mean a specific food, although I am also used to getting cheese, salami, olives etc.

I think that's a great story! I would file that away as one of those great funny things that happened to you. Salad with your salad - ha! You were not dumb at all, but it sounds like a funny memory.

Thanks for all of your replys. We do laugh about this. It is almost as good as the time we set the alarm clock so that we could get up early and get to AK when it opened. I set the clock for 6AM. When it went off, we got ready and headed up to the food court at POFQ. It was still dark out and it seemed very quiet. Only when we got up to the food court and it was closed did I look at my watch. It said 4:30 AM. The alarm clock in the room was off. I just got kind of hysterical laughing. We went back to the room and went back to bed. These are the little things that make traveling special!
