Am I the only one that think Home Resort does not matter that much?

I really don't think home resort matters that much. I have favorite DVC's (BWV, BLT...) but mostly, I am just glad to be going to Disney. I see advantages in every DVC and disadvantages. I like staying in different DVC's every time I go.

I love SSR and OKW and there is usually availability there.

So other than owning at HH or Vero (which I love too), I really dont get the big deal of where you own.... If it is a busy time, I call at the 11 mo window and book where every I have points (we own at 4 DVC's AKL, SSR, BCV and BWV).

For me, the difference between my least fav DVC and most fav DVC is very so small, it just does not matter.

I don't get the big deal with where you own....Does anyone else agree? because there is some pretty big price differences based on something that maybe many people dont care about.

Home resort DOES NOT MATTER. I bought HH resale and have stayed at every DVC resort. I am staying at BLT this june for 8 nights.... I am stay at this resort at a big discount if you compair what I paid for the HH resale. Why paid the money if you can get the same room at a BIG discount?? I do not get it. Unless money is not an issue!!!

it matters to us, mostly when trying to get BWVs BW view during F&WF

we do have a favorite, and it is very difficult to get at 7 months during popular times (we were easily able to use our BCV points for the BW view in may however)
while we like the other resorts, BWVs BW view says "home" to us unlike any other :cloud9:

It matters to me because I personally dislike SSR and OKW enough to not ever want to stay there. They are lovely resorts and I'm happy that other people like them, but if I ended up there, it would not be the vacation I want. And why would I belong to DVC if I wasn't getting the vacation I wanted?

ktmmt - you'll pay way more in dues than you saved on your resale. HHI is a cheap resort to buy into, but its an expensive dues resort. You'd have been better off with an OKW resale and paid a little more upfront for cheap dues.

You beat me to it. I have HHI for the 11 month window and only bought 50 points in part, because of the dues.

As far as whether or not "Home" resort matters I would agree with those who have mentioned the 11 month window for certain resorts at certain times of the year. IE: BWV/BCV during F&W festival or HHI in the summer months. That being said with the exception of HHI I have been able to stay where I want when I want. I have managed 3 reservations at BLT including this coming June with a MK view.

It does matter to a lot of folks, including me. I want to be able to book at 11 months at a resort I love, and at 7 months consider moving to a different resort. There are a couple of resorts I don't like, so I want the guarantee of being where I know I'll be really happy to be there.

Also, number of points to stay is a big consideration. At 11 months I booked 3 rooms for 12 people, 10 nights at BWV Standard view for an upcoming family vacation. I didn't have enough points for other views at BWV for that number of rooms and length of time.

It only matters really if you pick a VERY busy time and have your heart set on a specific resort. Case in point I switched my Thanksgiving ressie to a 1BR BCV at 7 months, I got 4 days of 6 11/20-23 and am waitlisted for 11/23-24. For those two days I am at AKV in a studio.

Will I be devastated not to have those last two days? Not at all, in fact I think it may work out great. I will probably do the DDP on the two studio days and keep the other ressie without it.

But if I had my heart set on Turkey Day overlooking MK in a MK BLT 1 BR I may not have been so happy - for me anywhere at WDW is good so I am cool - but for those people who live and die by a specific resort then they should buy where they want to stay. For me I have stayed at them all and am fine with any of them. :-)

It does and it doesn't to us. We originally bought at SSR and I'm glad we did. From what I understand, some resorts are hard to book even at the 11 month mark at certain times of the year. For example, BCV during Food & Wine. So if you own there, you may be shut out if you don't call at EXACTLY the 11 month mark. With SSR, I feel I'm pretty much guaranteed to get a reservation for whenever I want at the 11, or even 10, month mark. In most cases, it's more important to me to go WHEN I want, rather than to stay WHERE I want. I think in these cases, owning at a large resort is an advantage. We really enjoy SSR, so staying there is never a problem for us.

We then added on at BLT, mostly for the incentives at the time ($96/pt!) and low M/F's, but also because we love the Magic Kingdom, and we would like to have the priority booking window there.

We are now looking to buy BCV because we love it there, and we know having the 11 month booking window will sometimes be crucial, given it's size.

I agree with others. I think it depends on the person. It only matters if OKW and/or SSR are not acceptable to you AND if you might book late. For most of us, the ability to stay in different resorts was what attracted us to DVC in the first place.

Matters a lot to us. Own at BWV and always get boardwalk view 2BR which we consider one of the best views on site. Also own at AKV, always get 2BR savanna view, and usually go there at time that includes NY Eve or starts January 1 when everything is still fully booked before getting to 7 month window. In other words, we need 11 month window to assure getting what we desire.

It matters to me. I love BCV. I love the pool, the daily walk to Epcot, everything.

Home resort DOES NOT MATTER.

Yes there is generally availability at SSR and OKW (as predicted by many on these boards), but if you don't care for these resorts all that much then home resort is very important.

I agree for those such as the OP that home resort is not important. But to put out a blanket declaration that home resort is not important (such as the second quote) as if it applies to all DVC members is not correct.

It matters to us. We have been going to WDW since 1994, almost yearly, and for the most part, we stayed at the CR. We loved that location and never bought in to DVC, even though we checked it out several times, because we knew we wanted to be within walking distance to MK.

When they built BLT, we knew it was time to join. We did contemplate buying SSR, since it would save us around $5000 upfront, but knew that if we called at 7 months to change to BLT, and couldn't get it, we would be disappointed being there.

So, we spent the extra money. Over the course of the contract, we felt we were not paying that much more to be happy. I loved being able to book BLT, 11 months out and get SV rooms for the trip. We decided that we wanted to try BCV so switched 3 of the nights at the 7 month mark. We did get it but had they not been available, we would have been okay since we had our dream resort. Last summer, I did try BWV, and VWL as well but BLT remains our favorite.

Home resort does not matter to me at WDW because of the great success I have had booking the so called difficult resorts at the 7 month booking window. We travel only during the busy times and have never had a problem booking at 7 months at the resort of our choice. The only resort in my opinion where you really need home resort to book is HHI in the summer months. This only my opinion as I know other people have had trouble at 7 months. I do book at the exact 7 month mark for optimal success.

It matters to me. There are three resorts that I love and want to be sure I can get when I want to go. I own at all three.

I don't understand why you own points at 4 different DVC resorts if where you own doesn't matter to you? What's the point in owning at more than one location? :confused3

It DOES matter to us. I always book at 11 months to stay exactly where we want to stay. AKV in spring, BWV in October and VWL in December.

Well they say to buy where you want to stay, and having done that I've been very happy at OKW. With that said, I've stayed at all of the resorts, except BLT & THV, and I've never had issues thus far booking at the 7 month mark. Booking at the last minute I've never gotten OKW, but I've always gotten SSR and as long as they don't put me in t e Carousel area, that's fine. I book BWV for Star Wars Week-end, I book AKV when I need the savanna, I guess I really love all of the DVC Resorts.

And here I thought I was the only one who felt this way!!! HAHA!!! We love Disney, period! We do not care so much about views and all that; in fact I try to save points for more trips!!!!

Home Resort means everything to us. We bought BCV to stay at BCV and we bought HHI to stay at HHI. That's what makes us happy.
