Am I the only one that feels like this? Please don't get mad at me!

On Bill O'Reilly's website, there is information for a trust fund established by friends of David Bloom, the NBC Correspondent who died in Iraq, for his children's education. I loved watching David on The Today Show and felt awful when he died in Iraq but I can't believe that (1) he and his wife didn't have an education fund for their children and (2) that he was not insured at the time of his passing. Okay, maybe his family will not live in the custom that they have been while David was alive but if I was going to help finance anyone's education, it would be someone that truly could not attend school without any help.

I understand the point your making. And I wouldn't donate to it either.

But I'm wondering, in this case, it may be that people (friends, fans of David Bloom's, co-workers, etc.) have specifically requested that there be a way to do something to help his widow and children. These people may not have an interest in helping "someone who truly could not attend school without help". They may only be interested in helping David Bloom's children. If that's the case, it's not really taking money away from more needy people and redirecting to someone with less of a need.

Of course, if this is what happened, the family could have requested that any such donations go into a scholarship fund named in memory of David Bloom (a classier thing to do, IMO).

Do you have a link, to where it's listed on the O'Reilly site? I couldn't find it.

Jodi, I found that part, but when I click on the link, it takes me to O'Reilly's website and I couldn't find anything specific there.

I was just wondering if it had more detailed information....

Because I agree it's a little unusual to do something like that for the family of someone of David Bloom's stature (public figure presumably making a very good living).

So I keep thinking maybe there are extenuating circumstances that I'm not aware of.

Or maybe not.

Let me know if you find out anything else about this, okay?

From the MSNBC website on April 8th:

ON TUESDAY, MINNESOTA'S senators introduced a resolution on the senate floor honoring Bloom as a native Minnesotan. Bloom died over the weekend of a pulmonary embolism. He left behind a wife and three daughters.
Many viewers have asked how they can contribute in some way to David Bloom's family. On Tuesday, Bloom's brothers and friends established a trust fund for the benefit of his three young daughters. Donations in memoriam may be sent to:
David Bloom Children's Trust
C/O Latham & Watkins
885 3rd Avenue
Suite 1000
New York, NY 10022
At the request of Bloom's family, donations can also be made in his memory to the "Convent of the Sacred Heart" and sent to the following address:
Convent of the Sacred Heart
In Memory of David Bloom
1177 King Street
Greenwich, CT 06831

Sounds like this was viewer driven, and that the family also added an option for "memorial" donations.
