I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself at the moment.

I have to go in at 11am today. Hospitals are open 365 days a year 24 hours a day. Someone has to be there!

At least I'll get time and a half and I'll be off for Christmas!

Anyone else have to work today?

Thank you for sacrificing your day to be there for us. {{{hugs}}}

I'm not employed, Cathy. Sorry you have to work today. Will you have Christmas off?

I'm at work. Time and a Half. But I DON't have to help in the Kitchen.:D :wave2:

Sorry about you having to go in today!

I worked it last year but since then I went 'per diem' so I never have to work the holidays if I choose not too.. I am sure my floor is short so I might do an 11-7am shift ( we work 13 hour shifts at my place)

Hope you have a good day though!

I'm on call today. If anyone needs an Order of Protection, I have to meet them at the jail to do it. But, at least I get off on Christmas!!!!

I'm not at work, but DH is. He is a firefighter so he works 24 hours, we will see him tomorrow. Lucky for him, they are eating VERY WELL at the firestation.

Have a good day, hopefully it will go fast.

My DD is working today.. She's a supervisor in a residential group home for troubled teenage girls..

Most of the residents went home for the holiday, but some of the more troubled kids couldn't.. DD didn't "have" to work, but she said there was no way that "her" girls were going to eat Thanksgiving dinner in the dining area without someone there that truly cares about them..

Later this afternoon she'll meet my son-in-law and my granddaughter at her in-laws..

I am at work also today. Unfortunately, the news is always on 365 days a year also! My DH works in tv also and did the overnight shift - he just got home at 6:30am. My Mom works at the hospital and has to work today also.

I'll be here Christmas and New Year's too. Oh well, at least I have the early a.m. shift and can still visit family after work!

I'll be working this evening. I am also a nurse and will be enjoying my meal with all my special grandparents. I also am working Christmas eve nights shift. I told my parents we'll be up to their house for XMAS but they better bot say anything about me being in my PJ's when I walk in door.

Stuck here for 24 hrs too! Unfortunately people get sick and hurt on holidays.

Be safe out there today and every day!

Steve

Thank you to all of the hospital workers who are in today (and fire and police folks too!)

My dd (2yrs) was discharged from the hospital yesterday after a 2 night stay. While I am very thankful that we get to spend the (very rainy!) holiday at home, I am very cognizant of those who are working today and on other holidays. The staff that DD had around her were awesome!

Working here
Mind you not a holiday here
We have our Thankgiving in October

My DD15 works at the local stable to work off her horse's boarding fees....she worked today to give the owners some time off. Went down to help her for about an hour. Maybe I am really weird (okay, I probably am), but there is something therapeutic about mucking stalls and feeding horses. It was so quiet at the stables- could only hear the birds and the horses calling to one another out in the pasture and the smell brings back wonderful memories of my own horse. Glad I could help out DD, there is not much that she is willing to let me do now that she is a teen!

I worked today....7:45am to 8:45pm...
Now I'm off to bed to recharge for shopping tomorrow...

We have a family friend who works at a funeral home, so he had to work 4-9:30 this evening. He did get have Thanksgiving lunch with his family. I'm sorry that anyone has to work on the Holiday's but there are some situations that there has to be someone there. Thanks to all of you who have those jobs because it is a sacrifice.

I am a RN and had to work today 12noon to 12 am in the ER.. just got home awhile ago.. missed everything... but a bonus ... not listening to your MIL complain why I chose this profession and always missing holidays. priceless....!!

I was at work when I first read this post! I can read during lunch break but can't reply.

I usually volunteer to work Tgiving as I have to work the weekend also. That gives someone else a break. I work Christmas eve and then that weekend too. That is all though. Thank goodness.

I got my share last holiday season, got to spend Christmas at WDW. I got the New Years eve/day last year.

We don't have a union and do not get extra pay for holidays. Us part timers don't even get extra pay. Oh well, I do get 7-9 days off between work stretches. :teeth:

I "got" to put in a 11 hour shift today to try to get ready for Blitz(6-11am sales) tomorrow morn...

I am exausted, my dept still looks like crap and I could NOT find the 10 boxes of Battleship that are somewhere in our 12+ completely full trailers...But yet ended up with a good 10+ boxes fall on my head as all my boxes in one trailer decided to play dominoes...

and I get to go do it all again tomorrow...What fun :P

I rememeber the working the Holiday thing from my paramedic days...nothing like thanksgiving dinner being a turkey sandwich for 7-11 :teeth:
DW has to work one major holiday in the ICU each year, last year was thanksgiving, this year is Christmas Eve/Christmas
