Am I reading this right? -- name change/passport

After reading it, I think you are correct! :thumbsup2 I think you would only have to pay if you need the expedited service.

this happened to me shortly after I got married. you send them your current passport with the required documents and they return it to you with your new info listed on the last page of your passport. i've never had a problem at the airports with it.

also! it is for current passports (or at least it was at the time i did it). i don't remember anything about "less than a year." good luck

Really? Beacuse I thought if it was more than a year I would have to pay the full price for a passport? I would really hate to pay full price because mine does not expire until 2016.
I am getting married in 34 days :cool1: and will need to change my name on my passport after our honeymoon trip to Alaska (not nearly enough time to change everything in the two weeks between the wedding and honeymoon).

This is definitely right. I had just gotten my first US passport (I finally got US Citizenship about 4 months prior to my wedding) and I was told at the Clerk of Courts office that if I sent my passport in, less than a year after I got this one, I would get a new one for free. And I did. A couple weeks after the wedding, I filled out the name change paperwork, sent it in the mail, and voila.. new free passport with my new name. HTH>

My SIL had hers for less than a year before changing her name and paid nothing, I had mine for 2 years before changing my name and had to pay full price (PLUS expedited service since our HM to Europe was only about a month after the wedding)

Luckily all my travel documents will have my maiden name, so I don't have to expitite a new passport with my married name. Paying the expidited cost on top of the original cost would just not be fun! :scared1:
