Am I over-reacting????

DD, DS and I will be attending our first MNSSHP on October 10th (woo hoo). The kids and I decided that we were all going as villians. DD is going as Cruella Devil, DS is going as Captain Hook and I am going as the Evil Queen.

M-I-L lives in Tampa so we invited her over to join us for the weekend so she will be attending MNSSHP with us. She asked for suggestions on what she should be and was planning on sewing her costume. I told her that we were all going as villians (and told her what *we* were going to be) and suggested that she be the Queen of Hearts.

Well, today I get an email and she says she found a FABULOUS Evil Queen costume so she went ahead and bought it. I said HUH?!?!?!?!? I emailed her back and told her that *I* was going as the Evil Queen :( :( So to make a long story short, she says she can't return her costume (I have no idea why and I don't care to find out) so she thinks it will be funny that we will both be the Evil Queen. She said she got "mixed up" and thought I was going as another villian. Why do I not find this too funny. My husband, her son (who isn't going, lucky him) thinks I should email her to tell her to find something else even though she can't return her costume. I don't want to be a royal ***** about it, but I am kinda mad at the moment.

Am I over-reacting?

It depends, does you MIL typically ignore what you tell her and do her own thing with little to no regurad for the time and effort you put into things? If this is a yes you are not over reacting. It is her ususal manipulating way, but if you answered no than you may be overreating. If she typically listens and makes an effort not to sabatoge your plans than this could just be an honest mistake. Go ahead with your plans and let her do what she wants as well. No big deal to have two of the same, If I were you I'd just take mine over the top to make hers look "shabby"--of course I have MIL situation #1! In any event it isn't lioke you'll be velcroed for the night so make the best of it and don't let her vex you so much! LOL;)

Remind me of why we have not talked with MIL in two years.

I am a mother-in-law, and unless yours has alzeimer's, I think what she did is tacky. Don't let it ruin your night, though. If nothing else, your Evil Queen is bound to be at least younger than hers. ;) Revel in that.

I have an idea that works whether your MIL was being evil OR it was just an honest mistake...don't say anything (you are bigger than that anyway)...both of you can be evil queens...but just YOU will be THE Evil Queen.

The best part about being The Evil Queen is playing up with your kids anyway...Soooooo be sure you get extra-extra long black/purple or blood red fingernail tips (the kind that just slip on over your fingers) to accentuate your costume. Don't put them on until you are all ready to go.

Trust me...YOU will get more attention from EVERYONE you meet besides the extra-cool mom treatment from your own kids!

Be sure to use those fingernails effectively...wiggle them menacingly at all and sundry to the accompaniment of your best evil laugh...{{{shivvvvvver}}}}

Have fun...I will be there during the day, but am not going to MNSSHP.

You could say when you see her costume " Oh I thought you were going as the evil queen when she dressed up as the old hag with the apple " or maybe NOT!! LOL

Thats why I would make a good EVIL Queen !

:)

I bet they would have fun with this on the debate board LOL!

I would be mad too but then I would find a different costume and be EXTRA NICE TO HER ABOUT HERS----this really is the best way to go.

It s**ks now but I would be mad too..It takes a better Evil Queen to let it go and have fun anyways...

Hope it is still a magical night...

Over-reacting ? Just a bit !

If this is the biggest thing you have to worry about, I envy you.

This is the second MIL thread I've read today! I'm going on 14 months not speaking to anyone in my DHs family (they all live far away so it is easy).

Hard to say if you are over reacting, because I would react badly if this happened to me. (Of couse, I'd probably pay money to see my MIL in any costume and the Evil Queen would be quite fitting.)

But remember: The Evil Queen is beautiful ... she was fairest in the land until Snow White came along ... so I bet you'll fit the part much better than MIL!

OMG!!! What a hoot! Just change your costume and go as Snow White. It's not a villain costume, but you'd have your own "evil little secret", LOL ;)

Hi HookdonWDW!

I had the identical thought after reading that post...I would go the Snow White route in a heartbeat...especially if I even halfway looked the part!

Yes you're overreacting.

Just a suggestion.

Take your costumes back and get Snow White for you and the dwarves for the kids. It will be perfect. Don't tell your MIL though because she may then change her mind again.... :) I'd rather be be the beautiful Princess anyway, not the ugly old evil Queen.....

I'd take the high road, and change costumes.

Mainly because I think Maleficent is cooler, anyway. :)

Oh you all are so evil!!!!LOLROFL! I loved the Snow white idea!!!!!! That is so villianious!!!!!LOL!

unless you have time to change your costume. I believe there are different versions of the Evil Queen costume. Maybe yours is different than hers. I would ask her to email a picture of it, so you can alter yours a bit to not look the same. Or, if you are very creative, you could change your costume to be the old hag from Snow White or whatever. I bet there will be less of the old hag and other villians at MNSSHP, as some of those costumes are harder to find/make. Or, send her off for a Mickey bar....then duck & run the other way!!!
