Am I over packing?

I've started packing for our upcoming trip. I am anticipating it to be hot so I am packing two outfits per person each day. My kids are 3 and 5, and always get something on their shirts. Am I over doing it? We are staying at a villa and I could do laundry, should I just plan on doing a load or two? Should I bother with any long pants for the middle of June? Instead of a bulky sweatshirt for each of us, do you think a long sleeve t-shirt would be sufficient in case it gets cool? I am starting to stress out now that it is getting close. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Amy :)

It's easy and convenient to do laundry while staying in a villa. I pop a load in the washer when i get up, and before we leave it's ready to go into the dryer. The dryers take FOREVER, so it will still be damp when you return later in the day. Then you can turn it on and let it finish, fold and put away, and walaa, clean clothes.

So I'd only pack one outfit a day.

Also, don't need sweatshirts, if anything maybe a very light sweater or button down type shirt which can be worn open over a t-shirt.

I would only pack 1 outfit per day per child. You will probably end up buying a shirt or 2 down there and I Always use the washer and dryer. You will not need a sweatshirt. Maybe a windbreaker jacket and that should suffifce.
Just remember, you will have to lug all that luggage in the airport!
Pack light! It is hot down there.

Thank you all so much. I think I am over packing and will plan to do laundry when I am down there if I need to.
Thanks!
Amy

As far as long pants/sweatshirts go...we always fly in these. That way, if it gets cool in WDW we have something to wear. And the plane can get chilly. Don't overpack. Out of the 4 times I have been, I've done laundry 3 times!! It's not a big deal, especially if you're in the villa. I pack one change per person each day with a few extra t-shirts and pairs of socks thrown in.

Only bring 3 outfits total for each person.

Every night when you undress, throw your clothes into the clothes washer and run it. Put it all in the dryer when it finishes if you are still awake...or in the morning. It's best if you can dry it at night because then you can just get dressed out of the dryer in the morning: no folding!

You'll be wrinkled, but so what? You're going to be wrinkled in 3 seconds anyway, with all the heat and humidity.

I'm guilty of overpacking!! I always do. I usually take two outfits per day. I should only pack a few extra outfits for the stay instead of one extra for everyday. The laundry thing doesn't interest me at all while I'm on vacation. I don't particularly like to do it at home and sure don't want to do it on my vacation.

It's a little harder to pack light with kids, but their clothes are also smaller so you can bring a few extras. For our last trip, I packed one shirt per day for my DS. I figured we were going to do laundry half way through the trip so that allowed him to have 2 shirts per day. I also packed him Sweatsuits for sleep, enough for half the trip plus one (which he wore on the plane).

For the adults, we usually only bring 3 pairs of pants/jeans, 2 shorts and t-shirts for half the trip. We always do laundry.

I do not skimp on socks or underwear, though. They don't take up much room and it's nice to be able to change them twice a day if you're sweaty (or if you take 2 showers a day).

Be brave! If you have laundry facilities, try leaving some stuff back this time. I am sure you'll find that throwing in a load of laundry is not that big a deal at all.

Next trip, we are bringing an extra suitcase, but the same amount of clothes. You can guess what we will do with all that extra room!;)

Have fun!

or at least an extra tshirt/day. Her stuff is small enough to squeeze a ton of stuff in one suitcase. She will be almost two, and is always getting her clothes messy! DD11 will most like have only 1 outfit/day, with a lot of extra tees. I will try to bring a lot less as well. I have so much new stuff for me and DDs that it is hard not to pack everything but the kitchen sink! Guess we'll have to be honest with ourselves and take only what we need...ok maybe just a few extras!

I ALWAYS OVERPACK!!!!

This year I am planning to bring insted of 2pc outfits, just t-shirts and shorts(jeans) for the kids, for each day I have 2 t-shirts and a pair of jeans shorts per child. My older boy is a neat freak and for even a little spill he runs and change. Like another poster said I also bring lots of socks and underware for them. For the plane ride they have black pair of jeans and a long sleeve shirt(we always take the 7:00 am plane) because is always cold in the plane. I also buy a package of pull-ups to take with me because my boys do "wet" their bed from time to time and last year we had a "little accident" and I could not find the size of pull-ups at the resort.

Overpacking is not fun, and it is always my number one regret each trip. It won't get cool enough for long sleeves or sweatshirt or jacket. The only time it might possibly be cool would be if the restaurant was too cold from the A/C.

Two outfits each for the kids daily is fine. For the adults I would do one outfit a day with maybe three extra outfits overall for the week. If the outfits are small shorts or thin shirts you could do a few more.

If the children are cold natured and the a/c could be a problem, a light sweater or light jacket at most might be useful (just as you would bring at home when going out to eat).

You can always do laundry. But lugging too much luggage around is so annoying (especially when checking out/loading car). Remember that you'll be bringing home more than you are taking. Account for the extra stuff. There's always extra stuff.

You are talking to the Queen of the overpackers! My DH always thinks I overpack but then he's glad that we have everything we need. I pack at least two outfits per day per child, they're young and they spill things plus it's hot so they need at least two a day. The funny part is underwear and socks. We'll be at WDW and US/IOA for 11 days in July. I have been buying underwear and sock for the kids for months so they now have at least 2-3 pair per day. I just really don't want to do laundry when I'm on vacation and last year we spent about $200 on laundry service. It was cheaper to buy more clothes up here than wash them down there! I also pack one sweatshirt per person and maybe one pair of long pants. Then I have to pack their toys, toiletries, rain ponchos etc. They also get at least three pair of shoes packed because the the rain storms in July. I also take all the glow in the dark things and other junk so we're loaded down. Luckily since we pay for five airline tickets we're allowed quite a bit of luggage and we always carry on at least two with the kids things to keep them entertained on the plane and an extra outfit for each of us. I learned this the hard way when 2 year old ds threw up on me as the plane was landing.

Who wants to do laundry on vacation at WDW?? ;)

I would say as long as it doesn't make your suitcase very heavy, 2 outfits per day is fine. Maybe instead of 2 per person, per day, you could just do 2 shirts per day, but only a few extra pairs of pants?

I would bring a sweatshirt, or a light jacket. Nights can get cool. You never know in FL.

:) One thing I overpacked on my last trip was odds and ends. I packed way too many books, magazines, snacks etc. Just don't pack too much of that stuff.

I dislike doing laundry on vacation, however, as much as I don't like it I hate to over pack, so when we stay in a 2BR villa I usually do some laundry.

I have always been a serious overpacker but am trying to combat this fault of mine! :D

I would say to pack 1 outfit per day plus a few extra shirts (& undies!!) & then do laundry if need be. If there are days you'll be at the pool or a water park, your kids probably wouldn't need 2 outfits anyway, only one in the evening.

As far as the pants or sweatshirts, we rarely bring pants - haven't for about the last 4 trips, but we always bring a light jacket, sweatshirt or sweater. We take it on the plane because they can be cold sometimes. If you use it great - it not, no big deal.

If you are in a villa, then I would just plan on doing a few loads of laundry. I take the tablet detergent in doubled baggies, maybe a dryer sheet or two. Sometimes Walmart or Target have "shout" wipes for pretreating those stains before you wash. I tend to start a wash the first time that we have a few thing(2nd day) fill up the machine, throw things in to soak. Sometimes I wash that day, other days I wait till the next day. If I put our dirty clothes or pjs in the wash in the am, then clothes(depending) on light or dark when we get back to the room, finish the wash that night and dry while the kids are bathing or winding down. It really doesn't take long.
I would suggest a long sleeved cotton shirt rather than a sweatshirt. Sometimes it is chilly in the restaurants for supper, or if the kids get sunburned they get a little chilled. Have fun!
