We want to have the freedom to eat and play when we want, not be held down to PS times. I realize it is necessary for major places, but can't you just go eat?? Any non PSers out there?
Well unfortunately no. It all depends on where you go.
You may very well go to a restraunt and walk right in. HOwever, if it is busy and you dont have a PS, you may very well, and it happens VERY VERY OFTEN be told you cannot eat there. So realistically, as bad as it sounds, you cannot just always go eat at busy places. You can and will be told you cannot eat there.
I'd say if there is somewhere that you absolutely couldn't live with yourself if you didn't eat there, make a PS, I for one, am like you, I don't want to know that I HAVE to be somewhere at a certain time while I'm enjoying the parks, I have made one PS ever, and I did that once I was already there, for CRT, and got a table for the very next day...so I'd say that you may not be able to go to some of the more popular places and walk right in, but I wouldn't feel like I had to make PS to make sure that I ate, there are so many great places to eat at Disney World, my and DH just always kinda go with the flow
We never used to make a single PS....of course we also didn't eat in a single sit down restaurant! But seriously, our last trip we did about 4 or 5 on our trip and I was amazed at how EASY it was! You just call, make a PS, show up and are seated in minutes...even when they are slam packed! Even when you're 10 min. late or 20 min. early like we tended to be. They are easy to make, easy to use, and can be changed at any time. You can call before you go, while you're there, take care of it at the hotel...really easy and flexible. Try them...you just might find you like having a PS!
Im exactly like you. I dont like to be tied down to specific days. And while I may never get to Cindys, we have always managed to get into Crystal Palace, Donalds and Rose and Crown, one time with 10 of us, with no problems. So I wouldnt worry too much and have fun.
We usually make a few PS for the restaurants we really want to go to. but on our trip last week we only had one prior PS. The rest of the week we waited until the afternoon to decide what we felt like eating and we got in somewhere every night. Of course this meant eating late at times and sometimes trying more than one restaurant, but we were flexible, and we only had to try more than one restaurant one time. We called our hotel from where ever we were to make the PS for us and that worked out well.
It really depends on what time of year that you go. We usually have some PSs made before we leave and then decide where else we are going to eat. When we were there last October for two nights of our trip we couldn't get into any sit down restaurant anywhere except really late. We were very flexible with our restaurants and just nothing was available. By contrast when we were there at the beginning of February we had no trouble getting PSs on the same day. Having said that we did see lots of people turned away from Chef Mickey's for breakfast so if there's a place you really want to eat at do make your PS before leaving home.
we frequently go at busier times (may or august), so we always make ps's. plus, waiting for long periods of time to eat really bothers me, so it just works out better for us.
How many in your party? If you are a small group, your luck will probably be better. Today I called for lunch PS for Le Cellier....party of 5...90 days out...I called at about 9:30 EST, so they had been taking ressies for that day for 2 1/2 hours only...I wanted 1:30 PS and for a party of 5...they only had 12:50 or 2:10! I'm making one PS per day; we'll probably end up cancelling several of them, but I feel better knowing they're there.
