We were booked into WDW for 2 weeks of free dining (Aug24- Sept 6) but I just cancelled and we are now going to California for the 2 weeks instead. Tell me I didn't make a big mistake.

I guess I should tell you my reasons for cancelling eh.
The humidity :scared1: us (from Alberta not used to it).
And my husband didn't want to feel trapped to have to eat all meals at WDW. I know that there are tons of choices but he didn't want to be out and about touring and then think oh that meals already paid for better head back to eat.
We have 5 and 8 year old boys and the 5 year old is shorter and Space Mountain is his favorite and the height requirement is more at WDW and boy would he be  if he couldn't go on it.

We have been to DL 4 times and still feel that we haven't done it all plus we want to tour more of California.

So what would you have done?

Oh yeah great seat sale and hotel price aswell.

Yep your nuts. It's free dining. You don't have to use it if you don't want to. Becides you can book a few things that use 2 sit down meal tickets. The character meals are mostly buffet or at least the ones we did. Eat as much or as little as you want. We found we only needed 2 meals so it was perfect. Either way enjoy your trip.

We have done free dining a few times and really enjoyed it because we ate at places we would not normally go to and did alot of character meals which we wouldn't necessarily want to pay for. We love the heat and humidity but it's definitely not for everyone! That being said, we are also doing a 2 week trip to California including DL. I am really excited to see DL since I haven't been since I was a small child and my kids have never been. I'm sure you will have fun either way and if humidity is a problem for you then you don't want to go to florida in the summer!

Having lived both down the road from Oakville (wet and sticky) and Devon (so dry your nasal lining sloughs every 2 days), I can tell you that I would (and so will be doing) the same thing based solely on the humidity issue. Alberta dryness is something that can't be explained until you experience it and awful as it is, it makes us very wimpy in the humidity. I have been very miserable in Florida in September. I totally support you!!

Free dining tempts me every year . . . but the Florida heat and humidity scare me:scared1: The descriptions I've read are horrendous.

I'm from Ontario and have lived in that kind of humidity but, the difference is I always stay inside an air-conditioned buidling and am not outside all day:lmao:

I could NEVER imagine touring WDW all day on those hot, humid days:scared1:

I think you made the right choice!! If you can't tolerate the weather, it would make your whole trip miserable!!!!! Why bother . . . free dining or not!!!

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yep we are whimmpy Albertans who can't handle the humidty. The hotel we chose has a free hot breakfast buffet so that meal is covered and the room is a one bedroom suit and has a kitchen. We were staying at the All Star Movies in a regular room. So it will be nice to have the extra space. I'm thinking maybe next year or the year after in the winter for WDW. When I will appreciate the heat a little more lol.

Travelling in the heat and humidity of hurricane season does not appeal to me either. I am in Ontario, so trust me when I say we know AALLLL about humidity, but we went in Oct once and had an uninvited guest named (hurricane) Wilma, so that was the last time for that!

We prefer to travel during the first week of December. Beautiful Christmas decorations and low crowds. I refuse to stay onsite so free dining would mean nothing to me. I want the space and flexibility of 2-3 bdrms offsite condos.

I say enjoy your trip to California, and maybe plan an early Dec trip to Florida next year. By then Harry Potter should be open at Universal Studios and you can enjoy more than just the WDW parks.

LOVED California, DIDN'T love Floriday; the heat and humidity during Aug./06 had such a negative impact on us it tainted the whole holiday. I'm always looking to get back to SoCal though - DO TELL about the great seat sale...

hi there, i grew up going to DL and then i grew up...:lmao: anyways, my dh had never done anything disney :scared1: ...our first family disney trip was DW...we loved it...then we did DL....then we did DL again, and our next trip planned for june 09 is.....DL...While we loved DW, there is just something about DL...the only reason my kids want to go back to DW is for the waterparks...for everything else, it is DL...have an awesome trip, i think you will be happy with your decision...
sharon
me, dh, dd ::MinnieMo -almost 17, ds:mickeyjum -14, and dd:tinker: -12
WDW-dec 04-9 nights at the pop
DL-may 06-10 nights at the CCI
DL-sept 07-10 nights at the HOJO

I think we have made the right choice. My kids are too short to really enjoy the water parks at DW so we wouldn't have been going there.

As for deals on flights we have had better but not with the price of gas the way it is. We got direct flights from Edmonton to LA for 170 each way. We land at 10:25 am and leave at 11:05 am to come home.

We are staying at the Residence Inn in a one bedroom suit w/kitchen for $90/night. And they have a free hot breakfast buffet.

Oh the countdown is on.

Well we are going end of August for a week and not doing free dining (trying to keep the weight down and all the food would not help).

The idea of touring all day in the parks in the heat is pretty awful, especially since we've been down in August before. If anyone is considering going in August/September, just go in the mornings and evenings to the parks and spend the rest of the time in the pools. Especially with little kids. The heat is really unimaginable.

OP no your not nuts lol. No amount of free food would get me there in that heat and humidty. It was 30-32c everyday we were there at the beginning of April and that was enough for me:scared:
