I decided to plan a trip for the end of March 2008 (3/28-3/31) to take my son to Wrestlemania 24 in Orlando.

Well since we're not going to Universal in November I promised to take my kids during this trip. And since it's around spring break we will probably NEED FOTL.

Well the only hotel available is HRH and the cheapest rate is $354/night for an obstructed view. :scared1:

We've stayed at Universal hotels several times and the most I have ever paid was $267/night and that was for club level.

Am I nuts to even pay this much?? I'm hoping AAA or AP rates will come out for my dates but since there's not much availability, I'm not counting on it. If I can't get a better rate, I'll probably just shorten our stay to 2 nights instead of 3.

So do any of you think I should hold out for discounts or should I just suck it up and pay the hight rate?

I'm thinking you should secure the room as you have 5 days prior to arrival to cancel and receive a refund (they charge one night at time of booking) and then when and if the discounts come out you can have them added (or subtracted:). It's a lot of money, but it's the time of year I'm sure. I just booked standard obstructed view for November 10th thru 12th for $226 AAA rate. I thought that was alot for the time of year which should be slow.

Good Luck...

MamaKate....book the room pay the one night deposit. AAA rates aren't out yet, so when they do release, you will most likely be able to get a room at HRH at that rate. Book your room, and when AAA rates come out, call and explain you were hoping for a room at the HRH, but you have one booked at RPR. Is there room at the HRH to switch over to? If so, make that res, and cancel the other res.... the people at the hotels are very nice and will work with you. I would also agree, that you will most likely need the FOTL also...good move! :thumbsup2

I've actually already booked the room at HRH and put down the deposit. I just thought it was nuts to pay that much.

I'd rather stay at RPR, but the only rooms available are at HRH. Hopefully I'll be able to get some sort of discount once rates for 2008 come out.

If not, I'll just shorten our stay by 1-night. I won't cancel all together because I promised the kids we would go this trip and there is no way I'm doing the parks around that time without FOTL.

Also, it looks like Mardi Gras will be going on around that time and I've always wanted to see that parade.

Yes, it is nuts to pay rack rate...but, most likely, you won't end paying rack rate....something will come out...don't worry! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the reassurance :thumbsup2 . I hope your right. No matter what I know once we get there, we'll have a great time and I won't even think about how much the room cost me.
