Am I nuts requesting to move from midship to aft?

I have a stateroom booked right at the main elevator banks on Deck 6. From past cruises on other lines, the main elevator bank is extremely noisy and impossible to get on.

I asked my TA to see if we can get a stateroom closer to aft. - The aft elevators go straight up to the Oceaneer's Club and to the Mickey Pool.

Is this a good idea - will we be rocked to sickness - Am I going to suffer any repercussions from this move???????

Thanks for your help.

We liked aft when we cruised in July. Right upstair you had the restaurants and Mickey Pool. I requested aft for our cruise next year too.

Although the mid-ship elevators are a bit slower due to more volume....there is really no noise issue here.

That said...we also like aft better (close to the food!!) and I have never seen any difference in movement from when we were forward, mid or aft!!!

We always request aft ... we find it the best location on the ship. So, if you're nuts, so are we!

 Thanks everyone - and especially big thanks to dwkwootton for posting your 1st post to me

WELCOME TO THE DIS!!!! :bounce:

We also just moved midship to aft. I think midship is busier. Aft is nice, as was said, close to the restaurants. We've sailed aft before, but had quiet seas, so I don't know about movement.

We love Aft too. We are in a cat. 4 which is right under the spa....we don't have to worry about noise from the chairs and youngsters running upstairs. I think you will be happy with your decision. ::yes::

The aft elevators are a little faster....but there is no noise in the mid ship elevator area. We were just in a cat. 3 suite and had no noise at all.

Have a great cruise!

We had a stateroom about as far aft as you can get (7638) on our last cruise and didn't notice any more movement there than we did anywhere else on the ship. It was funny how one night our closet door kept sliding open and shut though. We only felt mildly dizzy/nauseous on our very first night while at dinner and during the show. The captain announced we were crossing the Gulf Stream and this was the reason for it. It passed by about midnight or so as I recall. The rest of the cruise was fine.
This cruise we're all the way forward in the SPH rooms and sort of bummed about how far we are from Topsiders and all. It was convenient to get to the buffet when we were aft. I think you'll like your new room location.

Well apparently you all are not wrong at all. I am very happy with the fact that I figured this out now and not later.

My TA just got me on the phone with a CM and we chose a room - there were two left to choose from - I AM SAILING IN 2006!!!!

We had a choice of either right at the aft elevators or a few doors towards midship - the CM advised me to go with the one a few doors down, and I agreed. It will be a great location I am thoroughly convinced.

On past cruises we have always found ourselves treking the long hallways back to our room at midship because we found using the aft or forward elevators to be more convenient and easier due to crowds.

Thanks everyone for such great help - as always.

Oops.......i had a brain freeze.....we were at the front of the ship...not the aft!! Sorry to confuse you!!

The aft of the ship...you do feel more. You notice it when you are in Parrot Cay. I don't think I would enjoy aft.

Oh great mostyn - you just ruined it - now I have to call back and change back again. ;) Just kidding.

I think it will work best. It may be a wierd switch to some but I think it will work great for us. My biggest concern is motion, but the cabin I chose should not be affected by this. But most of the activities we will be invloved with on the ship is in the aft portion of the ship except Disney Theater.

I have to agree with mostyn17. We notice more movement and vibration when we're aft. The vibration is the thing that upsets my DH's stomach the most. He'll sail mid-ship or forward, but never aft. Good luck!

:D

Actually the mid-ship elevators are the ones at the Club entrance. We were in 6556 and LOVED the convenience of the clubs.

Last year we were port/aft, in front of the elevators and it was a much longer walk back to our room with sleepy (or sleeping) children.

We prefer midship because the elevators did open up at the kid's club area. If we choose to walk it the stairs where just as close. I also don't remember the any noise from the elevators. Kathy

We stayed mid-ship and found it great.

No noise from elevators but there was a noise (from engines possibly) that sounded like you were sleeping in a garage. (This was the first time we had an interior cabin not in the front of the ship.) We were so tired though that I didn't notice much after the first night.

(I will admit to using aft and forward elevators to get upstairs quicker though.)

We would normally take the stairs but had an infant with us the last time in a larger stroller.

An umbrella stroller that could be folded and carried up the stairs would have been easier.

I'll agree with mostyn17 too that aft rattles you around a bit. I've been uncomfortable eating at those aft restaurants especially while at sea.

Everytime we have been in parrot cay....our drinks are actually moving because of the vibrations. It's not a sea sick motion...but more of a swaying vibrating type. If I had to stay there all night....The toilet would diffently be my friend on that cruise! If you could change it...I would. But everyone is different....

Good luck in your decision. :)

I LOVE aft...as a matter of fact, my favorite stateroom is 5650, which is as far aft as you can get. We rarely notice any motion from the ship. You'll get that much more when forward than when aft. The elevators are definitely less crowded than midship. I can feel the vibrations from the side thrusters when we are docking, but I don't find it disturbing (it's just a short duration). In my opinion, aft is the BEST.

I did NOT like mid ship at all. I thought I would love it because it isn't far from anything... but I found the opposite to be true.... IT ISN'T CLOSE TO ANYTHING. I'm spoiled by AFT, with a short walk to the Mickey pool and buffet, AP, PC, etc. WE spent most of our time on deck 9 aft and it seemed like a year and day from mid ship deck 6.
As far as the seasickness and motion, you spend very little time in your cabin. It really isn't an issue. I didn't find much of a difference to be honest.
I would NOT stay FORWARD unless it was SPH room. In fact, maybe you might think I'm nuts, but I'm thinking of giving up my SPH room for a cat 11 deck 5 aft. I LOVE it there.

Count me as another who's noticed more vibrations in the aft section. They were very slight and definitely noticeable - but it wouldn't bother me enough to not have a cabin back there. I specifically recall saying to my wife that I could feel a vibration while eating in PC during our last cruise.

My preference is far forward only because that's the only place I've ever stayed and have never had a bad experience, so take that with a grain of salt.

I think one of the verandah rooms in the back would be very cool. But I'm too cheap to get a verandah so unless I'm ever upgraded, I won't know what it's like. :) (And please don't tell me... what I don't know doesn't hurt me!)
