Am I nuts? Is 2 or 3 sit downs a day too many? I could use some guidance please

I agree! :)

I would not do both 'Ohana & the Spirit of Aloha show. I would probably choose 'Ohana over the show - especially since you're only going to be there for 6 days. Instead of taking the time for the show (which can be lengthy), I'd rather be having fun in the parks.
.

Thank you. Some things have changed since I started this thread. Got rid of CM for dinner, got rid of Kona dinner. I cancelled CP. I realize these meals, if I do all 3 of them, will take up a lot of time. I am so torn of which ones to axe.

DH really wants to do the Spirit of Aloha since its our "hotel", and I think my DD will love it. Plus I have Cat 1 seating, so I hope it will be nice and memorable. But since you asked for it...

arrival day

day 3

CRT is still a must. Chef Mickeys is a must I have decided. Spirit of Aloha is a must. Rainforest is a must, I want to take my child there, I think she will enjoy it. Akershus is still questionable to me.

I am totally open to cancelling any lunch ressies I have made (other than Rainforest), cancelling tusker house, Ohana character meal, tonys or the plaza, or even Kona breakfast. But I have them b/c I am not sure how it is going to go and I just dont want to get stuck eating burgers, fries and chicken fingers daily. I like a solid meal, although who knows what we might snack on during the day that will change that. I realize I have a LOT of ressies! I am so confused, but I do like to sit down and eat, however, since its our first time with DC, I have no idea how things will play out (or if she will even enjoy the character meals!).

I am not on the dining plan, and have a room only ressie, so no pkg. I just dont want to be committed to a dining plan since I could cancel alot of these ressies as I plan our days out as we get closer.

arrival day
the plaza dinner

I'd change the Plaza to Crystal Palace. Seriously. Out of all the meals we ate last time, this was our worst - bad service, just "okay" food (& that's being generous), crowded, etc. Of course, this was our experience, & yours could be better. However, there's really nothing "special" about this restaurant. I'd want my 1st night meal to be something else. Maybe Liberty Tree Tavern. Or 1900 Park Fare. Or put 'Ohana here.

day 2
CRT am
Tonys late PM

I think this day looks good!

day 3
Ohana Character bkfst am
Primetime care lunch
Spirit of Aloha late show

Since this is your only day at DHS, I might skip the character breakfast so that I could get to DHS at rope drop. If you want to ride Toy Story Mania & even get a fastpass for it w/ any kind of decent return time, you kind of NEED to be there at rope drop. I would only do the character breakfast if I thought my child HAD to see Lilo & Stitch. Keep in mind, though, we saw Lilo at AK w/ hardly any line, & we saw Stitch at EPCOT w/ no line.

day 4
Kona cafe am
Rose and Crown lunch
Akershus dinner

Kona Cafe gets rave reviews for breakfast (we've only been for dinner), &, since it's at your resort & you're headed to EPCOT afterwards, I think this makes sense. I might change Rose & Crown to a quick-service for lunch. Or cancel Akershus & do Rose & Crown for dinner. If this is your only day at EPCOT, I wouldn't want to take up too much time w/ 2 table service meals. Plus, there's so many good quick-service locations at EPCOT!!

day 5
Tusker house am
Rainforest lunch
Ohana dinner

I would only do the Tusker House character breakfast if I could get an early ADR (like 8:00 am). Again, you're going to need the touring time - AK is a lot of walking between attractions. Tusker House is a good character meal. But, you'll see all the characters at Chef Mickey's except Daisy. We saw Daisy at EPCOT w/ litttle waiting. I'd keep 'Ohana, of course!

day 6

As for changing the plaza, I wanted a MK rest since we will be at MK that night. So what else, other than Liberty Tree tavern, would you suggest? I dont know if I like the CP for dinner....have to read more about it.

Ok I think you might be right! I will cancel Rose and Crown. I am sure we can grab some tasty QS of all places, at Epcot WS. Good call. I will do that for sure.

Tusker house I have an 820. Does that sound ok? Rainforest is probably still too crammed in for lunch, although AK is my least favorite park and I think there is the least do to there....So I am not sure if I should cancel Ohana dinner (since a few have expressed Ohana food is similar to Spirit of Aloha) and just make Rainforest later....hmm...

Oh. Ohana Character bkfst. DD doesnt even know Lilo and Stitch...she only saw them once at a Disney ice capade show. Never saw them otherwise...I only booked it since its at our hotel and I liked the concept of not a buffet...that they bring the food to you.

Akershus I might still cancel, but CRT comes first and if DD loves that, I will be keeping Akershus. All depends on her response to CRT....so that may get axed but only after we do CRT and see how that goes.

Our past 2 trips, we have done 2 sit down meals a day every day. We do one character every morning and a signature meal every day. We prefer sit down meals as it give time for everyone including our 5 yo girls to relax and share thoughts of the day and what we want to do the next day and so on. I'm one of the crazy ones tha twill tell you that 2 sit down meals a day is what is best IMO but never would I do 3 meals. We would be too stuffed and too much time would be wasted fro mthe parks. We usually do early breakfast and dinner around 5pm

Hmm... what about 1900 Park Fare for dinner instead of the Plaza? It's at the Grand Floridian so you could get there easily either by boat or by monorail. It's a buffet, & you'll see Cinderella, Prince Charming, & the Stepmother & Stepsisters & I think the Fairy Godmother is in the lobby. You wouldn't see these characters (except for Cinderella) at other character meals, & the Stepsisters are very funny w/ lots of silliness!

Crystal Palace is another good buffet w/ lots of good selections.

Your 8:20 ADR at Tusker should be okay - you just might need to leave before all the characters make their rounds. Or, you could send your DH out to get a FP for something while you & your DD are finishing.

'Ohana is one of our favorites! But, since you have the 'Ohana character breakfast already, & you're doing the "Spirit of Aloha" show, you might could cancel it if your wanted a later Rainforest Cafe ADR. Tusker House will be a big breakfast, RF Cafe will be a big lunch, & 'Ohana will be a huge dinner!

I don't think there's anything wrong w/ the 'Ohana character breakfast - and it is nice that's it not a buffet. (I get tired of all the buffets!) However, if I were you, I would just make it early enough so that you can still get to DHS in time to get a decent FP time for Toy Story Mania. Seriously. The morning run to Toy Story Mania is crazy!

If I were you, I probably would not cancel Akershus. There's nothing wrong w/ 2 princess meals (3 if you choose 1900 Park Fare too!) when your DD is at the "princess" age. Additionally, Akershus is a World Showcase restaurant, & I think it's neat to experience at least one World Showcase restaurant while we're in Disney.

Do remember, if you decide to cancel, you'll need to do so at least 24 hours in advance so your cc won't be charged.

Oh, & if you chose to 1900 Park Fare on your 1st night instead of the Plaza, you could change your 1900 Park Fare breakfast to Crystal Palace breakfast if you wanted - just so you could experience another restaurant. However, your DD might like Alice in Wonderland & the Mad Hatter, so...

I would just seriously consider changing my 1st night meal to something more special than the Plaza. You could even do 'Ohana on your 1st night - especially since it's at your resort.

And, if you hadn't planned on going into the MK on your last day (when you have your 1900 Park Fare breakfast scheduled), you could do Chef Mickey's breakfast on your last day & do Crystal Palace breakfast on the day you currently have Chef Mickey's.

It's really hard to narrow it down, isn't it? ;) Maybe something like the following:

Arrival Day

'Ohana or 1900 Park Fare

Day 2

CRT breakfast
Tony's dinner

Day 3

Ohana breakfast - I might cancel this if I couldn't get an early ADR
Primetime lunch
Spirit of Aloha dinner

Day 4

Kona Cafe breakfast
Akershus dinner

Day 5

Tusker House breakfast
Rainforest Cafe dinner

Day 6

Chef Mickey's or Crystal Palace breakfast
Whispering Canyon Cafe dinner

Day 7

Chef Mickey's (if not done on Day 6) or 1900 Park Fare breakfast

OMG after these 3 days I would explode and would only be able to wear elastic waists for the rest of my life! Even with 2 sit-down meals a day I would be pushing another pant size.

I would skip the big lunch at Rose & Crown and opt for something quick at the Tangierine Cafe in Morocco (our FAV CS lunch in Epcot) or go for Chinese or Mexican or something where you wouldn't over eat. When at Epcot there are a ton of fantastic places to eat for CS lunches and you don't have to eat a burger. We don't enjoy TS lunches as much as dinners as they're just too much food for the middle of the day, not to mention a lot of park time wasted.

Why don't you make Rainforest your dinner on day 5 instead of your lunch since you say it's non-negotiable and skip the big lunch that day? You can always eat a CS lunch at Yak & Yeti or Flametree BBQ or Pizzafari. (The food at Rainforest is only meh so go with that in mind. You go there for the theme not the food.)

We don't usually do TS meals at MK but thought Tony's was quite good the time we tried it. I currently have ressies at both the Plaza (have never tried b4) and Tony's for our spring break trip but it sounds like I need to do more research on the Plaza before I keep that one.

Whispering Canyon is just OK to me...again, it's not the best food on property - it's the theme. The atmosphere is fun but your DD might enjoy it more if she was a little older.:confused3 If I were going to choose a meal not in a park I would go to BOMA at AKL or we would go over to DTD.

Ok....I think I am FINALLY done. I made some more changes and cancellations with all of your suggestions.

Here is the final list

Day 1 arrival midday
Liberty Tree Tavern pm (MK)

Day 2
CRT am (MK)
Sci Fi Pm (DHS)

Day 3
Primetime Lunch
Spirit of Aloha late show

Day 4
Ohana Char bkfst
Akershus dinner

Day 5
(only day with 3 left, but I dont care if I eat light at Rainforest. I just want to go to show DD. Plus I dont think AK needs that much time, yet we plan to stay until after the parade so I think I have the "time" to spare on the Rainforest)
Tusker House am
Rainforest lunch
Ohana dinner pm

Day 6
Chef Mickeys am
Tonys Town Square pm

Day 7 departure day
1900 Park Fare (am)

Whew. I am exhausted and my eyes hurt for days now trying to sort all this out. Thanks again for helping me to see the big picture!

Those ADRs look good! Believe me, after you've been to Disney, you aren't gonig to look back and say "Gee, I wish we had spent more time eating in restaurants!"

I think you have a good mix of meals that will allow you to meet princesses and characters and take a nice break, but still have time to explore WDW and have fun. Kudos!

FYI you can add the dining plan to a reservation up to 3 days out (unless that has changed recently) So if you are buying your park tickets from Disney when you get there, this it may be the way to go. That way you can decided nearly the last minute if your plans fit with the dining plan. :)

It's all preference. But we're a 1TS a day family. (Even if there are only 2 of us:goodvibes)

1 TS and the rest CS. It leaves you just enough flexibility while still having a plan.

I haven't read the any of the other responses, but just wanted to give you my experience. When we went to Disney in Feb it was my sons' 1st Disney trip, too. We had the DxDP and we went CRAZY with booking character meals and other sit down meals. We had 3 sit down meals scheduled a day. Biggest. Mistake. EVER. My boys are ages 6, 4 and 1. The table service meals always took forever and my sons would get so antsy by the end of the meal, I wanted to pull my hair out :lmao:! We also missed a lot of park time. We didn't get to ride all the rides we wanted to or see all the shows we wanted to... and our trip was 11 days long! It felt like all we did was eat! Needless to say, we will never do deluxe dining again. Ever. Our next trip is in Sept and we will have the regular DDP so I know we'll get a ton more done in the parks! Oh! And all that food! There is NO POSSIBLE WAY that the average human being can eat 3 full square meals a day and all those snacks. Hope this helps!

PS Just looked at your dining schedule and I think it looks good. Looks like you're mostly doing 2 TS meals a day and that's a lot better then the 3 a day we were doing, lol! Day 5 looks a little busy. We actually had a very similar day to that except we finished with Chef Mickey's for dinner. We didn't see much of AK bc of that. But anyway, enjoy your trip! Seeing my children react to Disney for the first time was amazing. I know you'll have a great time! :goodvibes

Thank you. I originally had 3 a day booked when I wrote this. After reading all the replies, I chopped it down to 2. Some of them I can easily cancel as there is no penalty, so I am open to doing that when the time comes if it seems we need more time and don't want to be confined.

and to the poster that suggested adding the dining plan, thank you but we rather spend extra (if it even works out that way) than commit to a dining plan at this point. But thank you for the suggestion.

I think what a lot of first timers don't realize is how BIG Disney is. There is so much to do, spread out over so much space. Just travel time alone can take an hour or more sometimes. Sitting down for multiple TS meals a day can get very time consuming. You really have to weigh what is most important to you. If you want to see and ride as mush as possible then limit some of the TS meals. If you are OK with missing some things and/or there are certain meals you consider "must do's" then by all means keep them. Just know they are time consuming and multiple character meals can feel repetitive after a while.

We always do 3 sit downs a day and wouldn't do it any other way. We usually do the character meal for breakfast in whatever park we are doing that day. We always do a preopening ADR time. If the park opens at 9, we usually get 8 or 8:15. We eat and miss very little park time, and save waiting to go through the turnstiles with the crowds. It gets us up and out early, and in the park before the crowd, and we knock out a few autographs and photos all in one shot.

Lunch we usually have around 1pm and we've never had lunch take more than an hour. We have done QS lunch and have had that take about 45 mins to an hour by the time we decide what we want, order and wait for it. Honestly it never saved us a ton of time by eating QS. The sit down gives us downtime, we cool off in the AC, everyone eats, drinks and hydrates, then we make a bathroom run before we leave and we're all charged up ready to go again. Some people take an afternoon break at the resort, we go to lunch.

We usually book dinner between 6 and 7. Same as lunch, usually takes about an hour. It gives us rest, refuel, and out the door until the park closes.

We hate the limited choices at the QS places. Too much fried junk, some times waiting for a table, having to sit at a dirty table, it's really not for us.

Some people say they hate to waste park time at the TS places but like i said, for us, TS doesn't take all that much longer than the QS place (my son eats a bit slow) and for the extra 15 mins or so it does take, the more relaxed pace of it is so nice.

We rarely use our snack credits for a food snack. Usually we use it to buy waters or frozen fruit pops (refreshing and hydrating YUM). At $4 a bottle, the water adds up so we just snack credit them :)

We usually eat 2 TS meals a day & nothing else. By the time our vacation is over, we're sick of food. There's no way we could eat 3 large meals a day. IMO, 2 TS meals + 1 CS meal would also be too much food for the average person.

I think part of the point of the time wasting that some of us are trying to say is that you have to really plan & schedule your entire day around these TS meals. Your day revolves around eating. They are at specific times and it can be a lot of planning for it to run efficiently day after day. You can't necessarily do all the fast passes you collect (esp. now that they're enforcing the return times) and you have to allow travel time to get to the restaurant of the hour. If the buses are running slow it might take 90 minutes or 2 hours to get to a dinner ADR in DTD for example. That is the LAST way we want to spend 2 hours of our day - especially if it's for the 3rd time of the day. If we're having a good time & we're on a roll with our day, maybe hitting each ride in stride (kinda like hitting green lights all the way to work in the morning) my guys HATE it when I say "Oh time to think about leaving to go to blah blah in time for blah blah". They give me evil swirling death eye sometimes because they'd rather just wait to eat at the closest place whenever we decide we're hungry. If I did this to them 3 times a day they'd probably tie me up, gag me & leave me in the room with the room with nothing but the service menu to read all day.:rotfl: We also tend to eat a lot less if we do a CS meal once a day. I swear I would implode if I ate that much 3x a day. Personally, we have better ways to spend our days and maybe eating THAT many TS meals is better off left to the veteran DISers who know their way around... I really think Disney has some good restaurants but I want to save some for the next trip.

I read all the posts and I think your changes are good. I went with my daughter when she was almost four and the things she talked about most were the character meals (CRT, 1900) and the bibbidi bobbiti boutique. We didn't stress about catching every ride and meeting every single character( she didn't know what was there or what characters were available anyway) It was awesome and we intend to do the same again. I will say, if you skip the parade at MK, you can ride sooo much without a wait, and we met the fairies with zero wait.

We did Tusker House for the first time last June and it is now one of our favorite restaurants at WDW. Sooooo many choices on the breakfast buffet!! Characters were great and atmosphere great too. Definitely will be going back! We have done CRT once - lunch when we had free dining. Surprisingly, food was pretty good, our waiter was awesome, and the princesses were great. Our kids are a little older too, ages 8-15 on that trip. I used to like CM a lot, but we ate there (dinner) in 2009 and hated it. So we won't be going back. We also really like 'Ohana (breakfast AND dinner but breakfast is preferred). We also really enjoyed the 1900 Park Fare dinner. Cinderella's step-mother and step-sisters are absolutely HILARIOUS!! We LOVED it! Food wasn't bad either.

But I think 2-3 sit-down meals a day is too much. I don't really like to give up that much park time, especially if your kids are younger. Our kids are older (now 10-17) and we still do midday breaks/naps. We MIGHT do ONE sit-down meal per day, but our upcoming trip in June we will do very few sit-down meals. I would prefer sit-down meals to be a LATE breakfast (as late as possible) right before the midday break or an EARLY dinner before returning to the parks.

At CRT you'll only meet Cinderella before you're seated and then there's no more princesses.

This has not been true for a long time. (Believe me, I wish it was!) Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at CRT are all character meals with the princesses. You meet Cinderella before being seated, and a random 4 other princesses do the table circuit just like at Akershus.
