Am I nuts for considering this, LOL?

I have a trip booked from Thursday, December 13th, through Saturday, December 22nd, to celebrate the end of my year of cancer treatment. Wilderness is my very favorite resort, especially at Christmas time. I wanted to book a studio, but none are available at any of my fav resorts. I had the studio that I wanted at VWL when I originally booked my trip way back when, for the first week of December, including all my PS reservations, but then my son & his fiance were talking about going and bringing fiance's 6yo son, who has never been to WDW before. Being the good mom that I am, I invited them to come with me. I thought it would be a blast to do Disney again with a little kid.

I was able to switch to a 2BR, still at Wilderness, and while I had to change all my PS reservations, I was able to still get really good ones, especially that a 6yo would like. I spent hours planning that trip. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and we find out son's fiance is pregnant, due January 22nd. No way can we go to Disney in mid-December. So, we decide to go in early October for the Halloween festivities, and MNSSHP. Okay, I'm okay with that, even though I won't be done my cancer treatment, but still pretty close.

I spend hours planning that trip. Of course, Wilderness was now out of the question, as this late in the game, everything was booked, so we were now going to stay at Saratoga. Beautiful resort, but not what I had in mind for my celebration, or where I wanted to bring a very active 6yo for his first trip. Still, it would be fun. Then a week or so later, son's fiance tells me she'd like to postpone the trip, to maybe March, as she'd like her mom to come too, and they'd have more time to save money.

I was like, "uh, no". I am not going to Disney with a hyper, who will then be 7yo, and an 8 week old. Now that would be nuts, and not fun, IMHO. I told them I thought they should wait until the following October, 2013, when my other son, his wife & their then 16 month old baby, and myself & hubby, & possibly my daughter, would be going. Son & fiance agreed. Cool. Except I am still determined to celebrate my end of treatment, so I go back to my original December trip, but now have to change the dates, as it is even later in the game.

I was able to book a 1BR pool/garden view at the BWV from Thursday, December 13th to Sunday the 16th, then I booked a 1BR at Wilderness from Sunday, the 16th to Thursday, the 20th. I was also able to book a 1BR at Wilderness for Friday night, the 21st, but there was nothing available at Wilderness for Thursday night, the 20th, so I waitlisted it.

Animal Kingdom Villas has a 1BR standard view available at Jambo House, which is where I would prefer to stay over Kidani, available Thursday, the 20th, through Saturday, the 22nd, and even Saturday night, the 22nd, in case I decide to extend my trip one more day, which I am considering.

My question is, should I just hope and pray my waitlist comes through for that one night at Wilderness, Thursday, the 20th, or should I book AKV for Thursday, the 20th, through Saturday, or Sunday, then waitlist Wilderness for those nights? I'd be giving up my guaranteed Friday night, the 21st at Wilderness, for what might not come through, although my Thursday night waitlist at Wilderness might not come through either, and then I'd have to book something, because I'm sure I'd have my plane tickets at that point.

I also waitlisted the first three nights at BWV for Wilderness. I hate the thought of changing resorts, but changing once doesn't seem so bad, especially considering I can walk to Epcot for the Christmas festivities, but changing twice just seems like a royal PIA.

On the other hand, I get to stay at three great resorts during the holidays. There is a possibililty I may be going alone, as DH may be starting a new job, and not be able to get off, or he may only be able to come for part of the trip.

I would go with the 1 day wait list with a backup AKV day as a backup. 1 day wait lists are more likely to be filled than multi day .
I had a similiar situation for my July trip at BWV standard. In May we decided add 3 more days to the ens ou our trip. Days 2 and 3 were available so I booked them and wait listed day 1 (with a backup OKW). We got lucky and 2 days later our WL was granted for day 1. I decided if the wait list did not come through I would have a good chance of switching days 2 and 3 to OKW.

But it is a risk of multiple moves, and i could understand how you may want to avoid that stress. It would not be wrong to book the easier (move wise) choice and hope a longer wait list might be granted.

I fully understand your wish to go to Disney to celebrate that importan event, I did the same. I'm sure it will be magical whatever resort you'll get.
An hug for you. :grouphug:

If it were me I would book a trip from Thursday, December 13th, through Saturday, December 22nd at VWL to celebrate the end of my year of cancer treatment.

Consider everyone else next year.

I agree With Bill! This is about you and your journey! Do what's good for you!:cheer2:

First, I think it's great that you're considering this, just sorry it took such a roundabout route to get back there! :crazy2:

I would probably stick with the 1-night waitlist since it's more likely to go through _and_ it guarantees you get to enjoy your favorite resort. If it were the BWV that had the missing night I would just go with Jambo, but since VWL is your favorite, I would probably stick with that since the worst thing to happen is just another move (which will be much easier with 1 or 2 than if it had been the whole family) :thumbsup2

I think my wife (the planner) might have a differing opinion, but since she just lurks, my opinion is the only one that counts! :cool1:
(on the boards...) :duck:

First off, I wanted to say Fight On!!! And commend you for your strength and dedication with the fight against cancer.

I would keep the one night on 12/21 at VWL and have the 12/20 back up at AKL. Even if you have to move on 12/20, just pack a one nighter suitcase and leave the rest of the luggage at VWL should the 12/20 waitlist at VWL not come through.

Good luck with the waitlist.

Have you considered seeing if that single Thursday night is available for a cash reservation thru MS? If so you could book it that way and keep the waitlist on points and cancel the cash room if the waitlist fills.

Otherwise unless there were no other option I would not want to move out on Thursday and move right back on Friday so I'd book the AKV for Thurs-Sat (or sun) and waitlist VWL for that time. You'll possibly be spending Christmas time at 3 of the best resorts to do that so if your waitlists don't come thru it isn't a bad thing to have to put up with! :goodvibes

Or, if you have enough points you could book the AKV Thur-Sat but keep the VWL Friday night and keep you waitlist for Thursday night and give it a little time to fill prior to cancelling it but at the same time have a room reserved.

Teresa, please consider yourself first! I think it is wonderful how considerate you are. But at this time you should figure out which Resort fits you best and go with that. The children will love any where in Disney! Enjoy this trip!! Jane

You all have great suggestions! I think I'm going to wait another week or so, keep my Thursday night waitlist at VWL, & see what happens. If it doesn't come through in the next week, I think I'll book AKV for Thursday-Sat/Sun, and keep my Friday night at Wilderness booked, in case the wait list comes through for Thursday at Wilderness. I do have enough points to do that. We'll see what happens!:)
