Am I missing something?

Now that 2007 rates are out, I've been able to plug in my dates and play around on the Disney World Web site.

I read somewhere that it is sometimes cheaper to book your room and your park tickets separately, rather than as a package, which Disney allows you to do. So I thought I'd plug my info in each way, to see which was cheaper. Here's what I got:

5-day Park-Hoppers, 2 adults, 2 kids: $975.54
5 nights at POP (June 4-9): $613.15
Total (booked separately): $1,588.69

Same as above, booked as package: $938.94

So if I'm reading this correctly, not only is it cheaper to book a package, the hotel/tickets cost together is less than the cost of tickets alone, booked separately.

Do the packages really save you THAT much money?

Am I missing something? Am I just dumb?

Someone let me know.

I think they mean booking separately like through different companies. For example, you can book your room through AAA, Travelocity, Disney.com, Hotels.com, etc, and you can buy your tickets through Disney.com, Mapleleaftickets.com, AAA, or an assortment of other places. I bought th Unofficial Guide to WDW earlier this year and it helped me a lot as far as saving money on booking the trip. I'd be happy to email you a copy, just PM me with your email address

If you are dumb, then I am also! :confused3

I always book a package through AAA. Their price - with insurance - is the cheapest I can find. I don't know how they do it! But - I love it! :cheer2:

This happened to me too. I thought 'wow, what a deal!' then I noticed that it was only for one adult. For some reason, when you price out a package and you first select # of guests, then select the resort it reverts back to one adult. You have to select your ticket option, then click AGAIN on the resort and it will ask you again to select number of adults, children, ages, etc. I think it is a bug in the system - very confusing!

has to be a bug in the system because I priced ours as a package and seperately and it comes out cheaper seperately by just a few dollars. Even though ours was for 06 I doubt they changed it that much. Heck if it the case I'll be booking several months in 07 lol.

I think you're right, Kim. Tried it again, and now I'm getting a significantly higher figure for the package. Also noticed a thread over on the Codes & Rates board talking about the same thing.

Darn. Thought I might have a good deal going there. I knew something had to be up. At least I caught it before I budgeted the whole trip with bogus numbers.

Thanks for the help.

I did this yesterday also. Using the guaranteed rate I already have and adding the tix (hoppers) separately it was cheaper to buy separate than as a package, by about $125. This was staying at POFQ, standard room and 9 day park hoppers for 3 adults & 1 child.

What I am curious about is can you get DME with a room only ressie or do you have to book a package?

If I get DME included then the only thing I will miss out on is the luggage tags, unless they come as part of the room.

ANY Guest staying in a Disney-owned resort may use DME.
The sooner you reserve it, with or without a package, the better - at least a month in advance gives Disney time to get your luggage tags to you; however, it MUST be booked at least ten before you arrive. See the DME stickies on the Transportation board for more information.
