Am I missing out BIG TIME??

Ok, I have always been afraid of rides that go straight down with no support (seat belt, shoulder harness) so needless to say I have never been on Slash Moutain. My 5 year old daughter LOVES this ride and keeps telling me how "cool" it is inside and she is always talking about the brooms.
I feel like I am really missing out by skipping this ride everytime we go.

Is it as bad as I am making it in my head, should I try it?

I went on it for the first time in years in March. It wasn't bad at all (and I expected it to be). The theming is fantastic and I'm so glad that I went on it. I will be going again. I don't like getting wet though so we asked for the back two rows. Just got a little damp.

Oh Yeah, you're missing out! I rode this ride for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The drop lasts all of 3 seconds and you don't get that "fall out of your seat feeling" that I hate.
It's a great ride and my DDs loved it too!

You are soooo missing out. My sister-in-law loved it and believe me it wasn't easy getting her to go on it the first time. Now everytime we go she always wants to ride it. She never has been a person who likes to ride on anything. She was more about the shows and parades. She has been to WDW 3 times now and the last time I got her on TOT. She loved that also. Please give yourself a chance, you will not regret it. There's nothing at all scary about it.

I know how you feel - but honestly, you sit so low in the boat that there is no way you could fall out unless you were trying too! And, the drop is over before you know it. It is so cute inside the ride and well worth it.

You really should try it. I'm a BIG chicken when it comes to drops, and so is my middle DD(12yo). This is one of my favorite rides and the theming is fantastic. After my 12yo(then about 9) rode it she also can't get enough of it! The drop isn't bad at all and now I've even graduated to keeping my eyes open on the way down. That's a big step for me and I've also figured out it helps to make the drop a little easier. Try it once...you'll have a great time!

I think you should give it a try. I don't like thrill rides and don't go on many, but this is one I will go on with my boys because they love it. Like someone said it doesn't give you the feeling of coming out of your seat and the drop doesn't last that long. It is such a cute ride with alot to see. :)

I was just imagining what a ride called "Slash Mountain" would be like, lol! I don't think it would be at Disney! :-)

Anyway, you should try it. You are down in the "log" so you don't have any feeling that you will fall out. Also, you can hold on. Most of the ride is just floating along, the only part where you might feel uncomfortable is going down the "splash" part. Sit in the front or back or wherever you would feel the most "tucked" in.

Now I know this is a real fear of yours, but you must know that there is not truly anything to be afraid of...many many families have gone on this with nobody falling out. In today's society, a major company like Disney would not put you on a knowingly unsafe ride.

Oh, just gotta say yes you ARE missing out! It's a GREAT ride, and the drop is so short that it's over in no time. It also comes in the middle of the ride, so afterwards you can actually sit back and enjoy the story and theming, which is so fantastic! I'm trying to get my MIL to go on it, as she's the same way...I keep telling her the rest of the ride is so great and the drop is such a quick part of it all. You'll love it if you try it!!!!!

Ok I am sold :) We are going for a few days in May, thanks everyone you are all very convincing.

There are many responses to your post but I have one to add. The drop ain't the entire attraction. Most of it is just pure entertainment. Relax and enjoy the whole thing. When you see the buzzards, get prepared. After that, I'm sure you will be laughing. And then it's not over yet. No spoilers but this is my third or fourth favorite attraction at Disney World (Mission:Space, Expedition Everest, Twilight Zone are at the top right now). I do NOT consider Splash Mountain a "thrill" ride. One drop. Go for it!

This isn't really a "confession" thread but I'll offer one. I wouldn't ride roller coasters or anything like them until I was in college. I missed out on loads of opportunities for fun, sometimes even sitting and watching while family and friends had a blast on whatever it was. So- I finally got started riding at about age 20.

Now I'm 52 and still trying to make up for lost time. :rotfl: I live in Orlando now and cannot get enough of all the Disney "mountains" (Space Splash Thunder and now Everest), Rock n Roller Coaster, Kraken, IOA's coasters (Hulk, Dragons)... you get the idea. If the day ever comes that the docs tell me to quit riding them, I guess I'll do what they say, but life will not be the same. Yes, I'm obsessed- I know it. :rolleyes2

So, ride it once or twice. If you're like most of us, you'll be hooked. If not- well at least you gave it a go. ;)

My mom is this biggest chicken ever and this is the only thrill ride she'll go on and enjoy. The first time you do it is a bit scary because you're anticipating the big drop the whole time. Once you ride it a second time you'll be a pro :).

:scared: Like the OP, I too am afraid of the drops. I really want to ride those rides, but my anxiety level standing in line skyrockets. By the time I get to the boarding area, I feel like my heart is going to pound right out of my chest. I'm "climbing" the mountains in baby steps. I rode Big Thunder Mountain for the first time a couple of years ago and now it is one of my favorites. I want to do Space and Splash but....I haven't gotten up the nerve yet. I would literally have to be able to walk right on with no time for anxiety.
Strangely enough, during the same trip as my BTMR debut, some alien force took over my body and the next thing I knew I was me on RnRC. I loved every screaming second of it -after the take off that is- Unfortunately I haven't had the nerve to try it again. :confused3

I'm not real brave, and have never done a "big" coaster, but I love this ride. It's one of the longest rides in WDW, and is so well themed inside. As mentioned, the drop is just a few seconds of a long, wonderful ride.

This is my proven method for success: ride in one of the back 2 rows (you can request this from a CM) and as the log is pulled to the top of the final drop, just sit way back in the seat and put your arms straight up (this keeps you pushed back in the seat), and look straight out (NOT down at the drop) at the beautiful Castle ---- it truly is a beautiful sight, especially at night. The drop is over in 2 seconds. Oh, yes, and SMILE ---- the picture they take will be phenomenal! Hope you decide to try it. This method may not remove all your apprehension, but it truly does help to focus on the Castle and not look down ---- you can try that the next time!

Ride Splash Mountain and other log flume rides , the drop is actually very fun and doesn't give you a bad sensation or anything. You should however steer clear of Sheikra at Busch Gardens, this ride does go STRAIGHT DOWN and you do feel it!!

Absolutely ride it. My DD saw it on the vacation planning video when she was almost 4 and that was the one ride she wanted to ride most. And she absolutely loved it. It is a must do every trip. I tend to get motion sick and don't like the thrill rides but I've never gotten that feeling on Splash.
I did ride Mission Space once - just for my DS - his favorite ride. I threw up it made me so sick - luckily I was better immediately after I got off - no lingering effects. But I'm glad I rode it. It was a neat experience. I'll never set foot on that ride again but again, I am glad I had the experience. So, even if you don't enjoy the ride (which is doubtful)- at least you'll know!

What brooms?

Make sure you ask the CM not to put you in the front if you're nervous.
Have a good ride!

The funny part is I LOVE the thrill rides. I would love to be able to buy a pass to sit on R-N-R all day or even Hulk, I love coasters but those drops with no eat belt just freak me out SO bad.
But like I said you guys sold me and Ill be on it next time :)
