Am I missing anything?

I am sure everyone will be pleased that I have placed my order (now I can stop with all of the questions!) and am waiting for my Canon Rebel XT arrive. I tried many camera shops with 30 miles of here and no one has the Canon EF-S 17-85mm IS in stock. I decided to go for it though because it fits the specs of what I want/need for my first lense.

Anyway... here is what I ordered from B & H. Did I miss anything?
* Canon Rebel XT with 17-85mm lense (they are one of the few that list this as a 'kit')
* Impact NB-2LH Lithium-Ion Battery (7.4v 850mAh) Replacement
* Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Control
* Hoya 67mm Haze UV(0) (HMC) Multi-Coated Glass Filter

There was an ultra thin filter shown as well - the website said it is for use with wide angle lenses. Should I have gotten that instead? Am I missing anything? I already have several tripods and I want the camera in hand before purchasing a bag for it.

Thanks again to everyone for the help on these boards! :flower3:

Maybe, maybe not (about the ultra thin filter). It's preferable for wide-angle lenses but depending onthe thickness of the 'regular' kind, you may or may not need the ultra-thin version (that is more costly, I presume.)

Yes it is more expensive. It also doesn't have any outside threading. (Just repeating what I read. ;) ) I don't know how *wide* this lense is until I get my hands on it and play with it. Since I am not at the end of the range, I just guessed that I would be okay.

I also ordered a couple of books by Bryan Peterson from Amazon.com today, as well as an extra 1gb CF card. I didn't have an ultra II, so I wanted to see if there is a speed difference.

Anyone know how to find a 'local' photo shop? Surely in a city as large as St Louis, Wolf Camera can't be my only option, besides places like Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart. I spoke with (what I thought was) a good local camera place but they don't stock a variety of lenses. There is a local chain store but they hadn't even heard of the 17-85mm.

:rotfl: Yes. That's how I found out about Creve Coeur camera - the local chain. Otherwise, believe it or not, the phone book lists Walmart, Wolf Camera, etc... under photo. I was surprised to see Walmart.

There is the Bulb Man but he does lighting, neon signs, etc. There is Shillerns (sp?? well it is close to that) but he doesn't carry a variety of lenses. He does do rentals though.

I was thinking there *has* to be something downtown, but I haven't found it yet! I was just wondering if there were any tricks to finding that great local shop. We are out in the 'burbs, and I don't know anyone locally who does photography.

Sorry, I had to ask.

I would try calling the local pro photographers (weddings, etc.) or the local community college that provides photography lessons and ask them where they buy their equipment.

I also am interested in some answers! I live in IL (few minutes from downtown STL). My suggestions for you were going to be Creve Coeur Camera and Schillers, which you already know about. I have to say I have not been impressed with CCC. Their service was mediocre, and their prices were quite high! I wound up buying my 50mm 1.8 from Amazon for MUCH cheaper though I did check it out in the store. Please let me know if you find any good little shops!
