Am I just getting old, or...

OK Anne, have a good time at that show. BTW, seems like 11pm is about normal for arena shows to end. I always heard it had something to do with the union for stagehands that would get big OT bucks if they had to stay too late.:) I guess I wouldn't know what to expect at HOB.

Yeah, union facilities it's an OT issue.

I've got an extra ticket to that show courtesy of the radio station if you want to go. ;)

Welcome to the club.

We went to see Phil Collins and Genesis when they were at the Meadowlands back in September and it was on a weekday.

We ended up leaving early (10:30ish) because they started the show late. All I could think of was I had to get up early the next morning (ok, I really don't have to get up, I get up to fix my husband breakfast each morning and to see him off) and I didn't want to get stuck in traffic leaving the Meadowlands, etc.

I was a real party pooper.

I could kick myself now because I really like Phil and missed the end of the show when they played all of my favorites. :sad2:

Bummer. That's an expensive ticket to walk out early on, too.

This place is a concert hall. Shows normally begin at 7:00 and end at 11:00.

Maybe we have a different definition of concert hall? I thought House of Blues was more like a bar? A concert hall to me is like a large theatre, like where they show Cirque in DTD.

Nice of you to offer, but I'll have to take a rain check. HOB is about 700 miles away, so I'd be reallllllly late getting home.;)

We were at that show too!! Awesome show!!!

DW was so mad that they didn't come on stage until 9:00ish, when it was suppose to be 8:00. We stayed til the end. It finished around 11:30. We were suppose to stay over in near by hotel, by DW didn't want to saddle DMIL with getting the kids up and ready for school the next morning. We go home around 2:00. Luckily I took a vacation day the next day.

Wasn't the concert great?

We left our seats around 10:30 and by the time we walked around to the other side (of course we parked on the complete opposite side from where our seats were located) and left the building it was close to 11 p.m.

I had just as much fun watching the people around me. We had this guy and girl (they both looked like they were pushing 45) who were totally stoned two rows down. He was playing air drums and she was on her air guitar. They were hilarous. I never saw two people drink as many beers as they did and each time they went by you could smell a little aroma of some wacky weed. :rolleyes1

It was fun to see so many parents with their (grown-up) kids.

I don't know about getting old, maybe you're getting bored? I know I am. Who drives to Giant Stadium from LI, watches one act, then says, "Screw it, I'm not in the mood to see the Police." and leaves? Yep, that would be me. Not in the mood.

My DH agrees with you!! Things don't run like that anymore I guess!

He went to a show a few weeks ago on a Tuesday night. I think it was Chris Cornell. He was supposed to be on at 9, I think. He didn't come on until 11:30PM. DH was ticked off. Of course he went with a group and couldn't leave on his own.

They serve alcohol, but they run the place like a concert hall as opposed to a bar. They have a large, curtained stage with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, a full uniformed security compliment, real barricade, seating upstairs, a true backstage with dressing rooms, production offices, catering rooms. It is not like a bar that runs bands, it is much closer to a concert hall in every aspect.

Oh that's a given. I've really cut back on the shows I go to because I'm so bored. Asia was one of the few that I've seen this year that really captured my attention. RHCP too. Maybe that's why I like the hard rock/nu-metal shows the best, when I get bored with the band, watching the mosh pit becomes a good distraction. :lmao:

I passed on Cornell, and now I'm glad I did. There's no way I'm staying out until after 1:00 am on a weeknight. Heck, I don't do that on a weekend! Normally I go to shows at HoB, Hard Rock Live, and the Arena, and they normally start between 6:45 and 7:15 and end between 10:30 and 11:15. I can understand that bars run later, but these are not "bars." Some of the actual bars around here that run bands finish things up early on weeknights--you can often catch a show at the BackBooth that runs 6:30-9:30, perfect to attract the people who work downtown, they leave work, have a bite to eat, see the show and go home. Once people leave downtown after work, it's hard to get them back a couple hours later.

The point of my original post was that you think they would have structured the show so that they finished at their usual time of 11:00. Because the headliners go on so late, a lot of people ended up leaving before they were halfway through the set. I realized last night that the last time I saw this same headliner was about three or four years ago, I went with a girlfriend and remember we left early that night too, because the headliner was still playing at almost midnight, and she had a two hour drive home on a weeknight. :scared:

I'm there with you Anne, same age group! And the last couple of shows I went to I was thankful under my breath that they were being played at a venue downtown St. Pete that has to have the music off by 11pm during the week due to all the condos near by! It's a relief knowing I will be home before midnight! The last two I went to were on Tuesday nights.......both worth staying up a "little" late for.........The Cult and then Blue October. I am a little fortunate in a way that I do have days off during the week and didn't have to work the next day but at "my age" midnight is VERY late!

Sounds like Jannus Landing, home of the infamous pole in the middle of the stage. ;) :rotfl: I passed on the Cult and Blue October a few weeks ago as well, I came close to going to the Cult, but had a personal obligation early the next day that I wanted to be very fresh for, and I've seen Blue October several times, so I passed on them.

BTW--I was over in your neck of the woods Sunday at Ribfest. :thumbsup2

Yes it was Janus Landing! We "know" someone so we are usually up on the balcony or right behind the sound boards so it's not to bad........Have to say that I did really enjoy The Cult again! Hey I was at Ribfest on Sunday too.......went to see Edgar Winter and Lou Gramm, Got a little board with Edgar, the guy is starting to move geriatric and then with his "little thing" making noises and having the guitarist do the same only on a guitar and then doing so with the drummer and the bassist it was getting really old! I was right up front. Although the drummer was yummy! But it was a perfect day for a concert and good food!

I got there just as Edgar Winter was going offstage. If you saw Lou Gramm, you probably saw me, because I was standing on the stage in the soundwings during some of their show. Did you stay for Greg Rollie? He was fantastic! I didn't have a single thing to eat all day! :scared1: :rolleyes1 :sad2:

Didn't stay for Greg Rollie, I had seen him at EPCOT a few years back, he just isn't my cup of tea I guess........I never was a Santana fan either. We could have had a mini dis meet! Next up for me is a Marty Casey show at a local bar here, a friend of mine is a HUGE fan of his and the Lovehammers, so I will give that a shot. At my age I LOVE those afternoon shows.......lol.

Chili Peppers always put on a great show. The really great shows I've seen in the past year or so were John Fogerty, CSNY, Roger Waters and I loved the Rock the Bells festival (gotta have some Rage!). As always, Cllapton was great but that was a little more than a year ago, as was Chili Peppers. Other than that not much has done it for me.

You aren't old but I really wish weeknight shows would be a little earlier so I could go to more. :)

LOL - I'm with you on the old, Anne - we're in the same age bracket!

My favorite local rock band has started taking earlier gigs just for us "elderly" fan base! In fact, in a week or tow, they are re-creating The Concert for Bangladesh at BB King's in NYC.....ON A WEDNESDAY night!

I am still debating, since show time is 9PM....:scared1: - and I'm waayyyy out on the Island!

God Bless your energy level just as it is!!! You are definitely our last hope and role model!!!
