Am I Insane for considering this?

We had a great time on our disney trip this summer, so great in fact, that the teen daughter is BEGGING to go again. I normally wouldn't consider it so soon, but she does have her sweet 16 coming up, and she was very disappointed she didn't get to see the new fantasyland - especially Belle's castle etc. Belle is the favorite princess since age 3.

So I am considering booking a girl's weekend to celebrate her birthday. We can get military parkhopper passes so really that cost is negligible. I have taken her for weekend birthday trips before so not out of the realm of possibility from our past. Her birthday is in December, but because of high school activity schedules, we really wouldn't be able to go until Memorial day weekend. Would you go then? And where would you look at staying to keep things relatively inexpensive? I think our plane tickets will be the most costly part.

Thanks - and I look forward to you opinions!

It is never insane to think about a trip to WDW. It is insane not to.

Memorial Day weekend will be very, very crowded. Arrive at RD every day and take a mid-day break.

To keep things inexpensive, stay off-site. Or, at Pop Century.

Yes you are insane :thumbsup2
As we all are on this forum. Nothing wrong with planning another Disney trip just after returning from a trip.

Thanks for giving me an idea for my DD who will also be 16yo IN December...ack, that would be SOOO fun!! :goodvibes

A teen who WANTS to do something with a parent? From what I understand, this is rare. You should go.

LOL - I think we all are a little insane right?!

Since she is an only child - I do tend to go over the top - heck we surprised her with a trip to NYC to see a Broadway show that was closing 2 years ago because she was desperate to see the show! So really I don't think that is any different than this!

Can I still call it a birthday celebration with Disney even thought it would be 5 months later? And I was looking at All Star Music - since she is a huge music fan. I know I can get a small military discount and its $426 for the three nights all together and would save me the expense of car rental to be on property. We were there for the 4th of July last year - would the crowds be worse than that?

Thanks for the help - I am now 90% convinced to do it! My hubby will love all of you - NOT!

This is the wrong place to ask if planning a trip to Disney (any time of year) is insane!

We were in the world last year from May 25- June 1, which included Memorial Day. I did not notice a huge jump in crowds at all. We had no trouble getting on rides, all though we did use fast passes at times. The only crowded place we were was HS but that was to be expected as it was SWW. That would be my one suggestion. Make sure not to plan on HS on the weekend, unless you want :chewy: autograph :)

It's not going to be any where near as crowded as 4th of July. We have been a couple of times at Memorial Day and it really wasn't bad at all.

I wouldn't choose ASMusic, but that's just my personal preference. The discount would be 30% at the Values, but check there are some added blackout dates on the Military tickets and room rates this year.

And you are definitely not insance, DH and I just went down for 2 nights prior to Labor Day with the Military tickets and room discount.

Yes .. you are insane (for not inviting my DD and I to go along with). :rotfl2:

I say "book it" ... life is too short not to have another Disney trip planned.

I agree with the first and last sentences.

I don't think Memorial Day weekend is very, very crowded, having gone for the past ten years. We don't do rope drop, we don't take a mid-day break. Parks are not close to closing and we just have a good time getting to a park when we want and leaving when we want.

To keep costs down, I would suggest planning just counter service meals (helps with flexibility as well) and maybe carrying snacks with you into the parks. At the age of 16, your daughter could easily (and probably does at school) carry a small backpack of her own.

For Memorial Day, most schools in the Southeast have just finished and most schools in the Northeast are still going. Will it be more crowded than offseason? Yes, but it's not that bad.

Probably, but that means that I'm insane too. Go ahead and book it and have fun.

DO IT:thumbsup2

Not crazy A ALL !!!
I do Mother's day weekend trip with my DD ( Only 5) It was something that started with my DM . I LOVE the memories !! They are better than any piece of jewelry or apple product or party. I cherish those years I had with my Mom. I enjoy every bit with my dd. We did do a trip to WDW 2 years ago just her and I ... It was so much fun.
To keep the cost low try a value like Pop...or AoA Little Mermaid room for you 2 girls. If you want to bump it up a bit I love POFQ small and quaint. They boat to DTD is nice too.

START PLANNING !!! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR ????????:p

Thanks all!

I have decided we are doing it! And after looking at airfare, its much cheaper to go the week after Memorial Day - so we will leave May 30 or 31 and come back June 3. Hotel prices with military discount were better then too - so I feel comfortable with that- difference between POP and Music was $20 so I just have to decide which DD would enjoy more. She is a Broadway and Belle crazed teen, so Music would be perfect if we can get in the Broadway area - but POP would be awesome in the 80's area. She takes after mom and loves the 80's!

Oh - I love planning! Any big things we should do as an extra birthday treat?!

I'd consider waiting until 2014, when the 7 dwarfs mine train is open. You can then make it a high school graduation present. At least by then, maybe some of the mad rush for the new FL Expan. grand opening may have settled down a little bit.

Thanks all!

Hi, My DD and I have been on a few Mother & Daughter trips :goodvibes, one of our favorite things to do is TEA at the GF :). We usually get the Grand Tea and count it as a late lunch,DELICIOUS!! Joan

Totally NOT insane! We just went in June, but are going back for Thanksgiving. Should we be putting that money toward something else? I'm sure! But we have never been in November and my kids are getting older. If they want to go and we get to spend that time together, then we are going for it! Disney memories are so special! I say GO FOR IT!
