Am I getting old or is this horribly wrong?

It is like judging slave owners hundreds of years ago based on today's knowledge and standards.

Here's another thing I'm not sure where you're going with. Some slave owners WERE brutes in every sense of the word from a MODERN definition and back then. Some weren't, but a good number of them did get a savage delight out of breaking their bodies and souls. Do you agree?

Absolutely, but the act of owning slaves was not considered to be remotely wrong - certainly not evil. That perception came much later, after industrialization allowed for the existence of large metropolises without the support of slaves (or a conscripted class of another sort).

I guess it depends on who you asked at the time. As an African american, I can tell you Bamafan, we pretty much thought it was evil from day one. Industrialization or not.
We were funny that way.

Slavery existed across the globe back then. In Africa, tribes held other tribes as slaves as far back as records are kept.

Do a little research. You might be surprised at what you discover. For instance, most of the African slaves sold were sold by other Africans - other black Africans.

We look back at history and wonder at its brutality, but we have to be careful not to judge history by our standards. I am sure that the slaves would have prefered a different life, but that changes nothing. The world was a very different place.

Your point in posting this would be???

Here's something I've noticed. Disney tends to attract a lot of Christians, this board notwithstanding. Vocal Christians. Christians who say they're offended by everything. Like Hellfire, in addition to everything else I listed. So a lot of members who consider themselves Christians(from what I've seen), tend to be biased and out of touch. I mentioned how my Mom never gave me any freedom growing up despite all my other friends being from liberal families and I resent her for that in response to somebody else's post. This brings me back to my point of subjective cultural and family "values".

Sounds good, but I am not so sure. As a Christian, I was taught not to judge others. There is waaaay too much judging going on in the Dis for me to go along with you. :lmao:

Came back in to see what everyone was arguing about now  and saw your post. I am a Christian. So I probably should be outraged at this dance routine, but I am not.

I have never tried to shelter my kids nor have I tried to keep them from having any freedom. I remember friends of mine whose parents did that. They were the ones sneaking out of the house at night and ended up pregnant and married by 17. I decided way back then that I wouldn't do that to my kids. When I was in college the first time I could always pick out the freshmen girls who had never had any freedom. By the second week they had gone wild!

I am a Christian and I teach my children Christian values, but I also encourage them to learn and think for themselves. If my beliefs do not make sense to them, they need to learn for themselves what they believe.

I don't know what to call myself, but I certainly believe in God. Thing is, the fundamentalists really hurt their cause through hypocrisy and ego.

And your point? I'm a liberal atheist and think the sexualization of children is abhorrent. Adults can do whatever they want, whenever they want as long as it's not hurting anybody else. But when you start to subject children to objectification then I have a real problem with this.

I do not think that anyone in this thread would disagree with this sentiment. The difference of opinion lies in whether or not the dance/uniforms do any of this. Some think it does, others think not, and some are split (one does while the other does not).

And some people think that if you disagree with their opinion, you are a troll. :lmao:

Oh but I am! And I have over 16,000 posts to prove it!
