Am I Forgetting Anything? Photo Stuff List for Upcoming Trip

I love using my speedlite on POTC! I get crystal clear pictures while using it compared to all the blurry ones I got before! I LOVE IT!

;)

:lmao:

Darn, I was hoping that would go on a while longer before someone spilled the beans! I love the "no flash on dark rides" admonishments. :goodvibes

Bring the Holga Ann, you'll have a ton of fun with it there! :woohoo: And don't forget the black electrical tape. :goodvibes

Oh, and maybe instead of a flashlight bring a few glow sticks or glow bracelets to keep in your bag. I break them when it gets dark, and then I have a nice non-intrusive light inside my camera bag at night. ;) It really helps out during Wishes or dark rides when I want to find something in my bag without ticking everybody else off. :upsidedow

Have a great trip! Don't forget to post the obligatory gear pic before you leave. :goodvibes

I like the idea about the glowsticks! Unfortunately, I don't think I can bring them in a carry-on since they're liquid (unless they fit in my little quart-sized ziploc). I won't be checking a bag for this trip, I'm trying to go light (can't you tell??)

Now that I think about it, I guess I don't need to bring either thing---I have an iPHONE. And you know what they say when it comes to the iPHONE. You need a flashlight? "There's an app for that!"

Nope, that changed a long while ago, Jeff. :rotfl2: It's now a 3 day MNSSHP trip. Instead of driving, we're flying. Instead of camping, we're staying at CSR. As you can see, things don't spiral out of control quickly in just the photography sector of my everyday life. ;)

I kind of have to bring all of this stuff with me down there.

The Sigma 30 for rides/Spectro/walk-around.
The 18-200 in case I get lazy.
The Tokina 11-16 because, well---I bought it and haven't used it yet. :headache:
The Nikon 10.5 because I have to return it to another DISer at MNSSHP (thanks again, Karyl!) :thumbsup2

The tripod is a given. The Gorillapod I may leave home, but I'm worried I'll break the tripod and need it.

The Holga I could leave at home, but why? I have three whole days of Disney goodness to try it out!!

Sounds great Ann- have a good time- take what gear makes you happy.

Well in that case, can I borrow your 28mm f/1.4? I bet that'd make me reeeeeeeeeeally happy ;) :)

You win the prize for recognizing sarcasm! Here are some good vibes to you! :goodvibes

Arrrgh! I totally missed the sarcasm! You really threw me off.

I guess I really should feel bad for using my flash on "It's a Small World." :rolleyes1 (...but only when no one else is on the ride!)

ps. you might also get away with using flash on "Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" or "Snow White's Scary Adventures", but I'll just stop here before I start leading people astray.

One more thing you can consider bringing. Do you have a GPS receiver, or does your iPhone have an app that tracks your GPS coordinates?

You can then go back home and geotag all your photos! :) My wife is "thrilled" (sarcasm) when she sees me spending time geotagging our photos.

Heck, you don't even need the app, that screen is pretty bright. DH has our windows all tinfoiled up (he sleeps during the day every other week) and I use my iphone screen to help me find my way to the bed.:lmao:

I caught VVFF's sarcasm right off but was just waiting for him get ripped to shreds, lol.

Have to ask, what's the electrical tape for?

Conveniently enough, the app is free and it's one I already have---but you're right, the screen is darn bright on its own!

The electrical tape is (I believe) for light leaks in the Holga, although I haven't had any problems with that specific issue yet. You tape up the back nice and tight to avoid any gaps in the plastic and to also cover the little red window on the back. I think mostly it's for when you are shooting 35mm with the Holga, rather than 120 size.

Darn! I completely forgot about my iphone! I can be dense sometimes. Here I am thinking I'm so smart with my little glow sticks, and my phone gives off plenty of light. Forgot you can't take the glow sticks flying either. :upsidedow

If you want light leaks you could always drop your Holga or bang it against a table a few times to get some. You might need the tape anyway -the back of my Holga keeps falling off, and to keep the Polaroid back on it takes a lot of tape. :teeth:

Screwdriver is a good idea. DH has a leatherman (utility tool/pocket knife thing)---do you think that can be brought into the parks?

Officially a Leatherman has a knife and is not allowed in the parks. Realistically, if it is in his pocket there should be no problem. If WDW was all that concerned about a 3" knife blade they would step up security to airport level, my guess is they are not that worried about it.
The Leatherman mini may be more useful, the screwdrivers are smaller. :)

The SB800 might be useful for some interesting flash shots, like a long exposure of the background with a flash of the monorail. And like VVFF, I figure if WDW didn't make POTC so dang dark I wouldn't have to use my flash in there! ;)

I kind of figured that must be sarcasm, surely no one would come here and brag so happily about flash on PotC. :)

I haven't used a lens pen but I would be surprised if they can be as all-around handy as a good old-fashioned microfiber cloth... I love my little "Spudz" pouch; you can buy smaller Mickey-logo versions at the parks. It's very handy for doing quick cleanups on the lens surfaces especially if you accidentally smear a fingerprint onto them...

As for the external flash; in my informal surveys last trip, Nikon shooters were mostly likely to walk around with an external flash on their cameras. (Canon shooters were most likely to carry their cameras by the neck strap, with the camera itself swinging mere inches from the ground. I had observations for the others but I forgot 'em!) I sometimes bring my external flash, but really the main time that I use it is for wireless "off-camera" use.

I have a cloth, as well---but reeeeally like the little solution filled tip thingy that the lens pen has. The combo of the brush with the little felt tip that can clean up any schmutz on the lens is fantastic! :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: Love the observations from the last trip. Off-camera may be more useful for me, since I can't really think of anything on-camera that I'd want to use it for. Maybe night shots when the camera is on a tripod, off-camera could make for some interesting shots to think about.
