I have a friend who keeps bringing up the idea of buying a 4 day ticket through Undercover Tourist and then just getting her free day tickets for their 5th day once she gets to Disney. Below is my advice to her. Please let me know if the scenario or math is wrong. I am using today's prices on Disney's website and know that the prices will increase a little bit when ticket prices are raised in August. Here it is:

If you buy a 4 day ticket from Undercover Tourist, it would cost $232.95 for the 3 adults and $198.95 for the child. Then you would just get your free 1 day ticket from Disney (which is valued at $79 for adults and $68 for kids). You would not be able to have your free day voucher applied to your Undercover Tourist ticket, you would just use your free day out-right.

If you wait until you get to Disney, you will buy a 5 day ticket for the gate price of $228 for the 3 adults & Ashley and $195 for the child. Then they will deduct the price of a 1 day park ticket ($79 and $68) making your final price (not including taxes):

Adults: $228-$79 = $149 each
Kids: $149 - $68 = $127 each

Is this correct? Thanks so much!

Yes. It is correct. However, the one minor comment is that the UCT prices include tax while the gate prices do not, so when you show her the numbers you should include the tax in all of them.

It's me again....is there any situation or scenario where the tickets can or should be bought early to avoid the price increase? Like maybe buy the 5 day ticket now and then get a refund for the GAD voucher once we're at Disney? I doubt it, but thought I would ask the expert.

I am fairly sure that they will not refund you money for prepurchased tickets. The tickets need to be upgraded after you get your free GAD ticket.

If there is a price increase (which may happen in early August), the GAD voucher would then be worth the "new" one day price. It's possible that the 5-day ticket will increase more than the one day ticket, but there is no way to buy the tickets early and still apply the GAD voucher. The voucher is not a gift card and can't be refunded - it is a one day ticket that can be upgraded, but it must be used on the date it is redeemed.

If the potential for a price increase is a concern, the tickets can be bought through UCT before an increase and the GAD voucher used for something else like FP cards or the figurine and pins. But from a purely economic standpoint, the price increase wouldn't be enough to negate the value of upgrading the GAD voucher.
