So we decided we need a vacation... badly. We are thinking of going the second week in May and all the Disney hotels are sold out so we are thinking about the Carousel. DH gets a discount through work and he gets a discount for being an AP holder. Am I crazy for taking a 4.5 month old baby? My DD is 2.5 so we wanted to get a trip in before she turns 3 and we have to pay for her ticket. Her first trip was to WDW when she was 6.5 months. DH keeps saying, well she was eating baby food and sitting up better, etc. I say, well, DS will sleep/nap in the stroller and I can nurse him in the Baby Care centers. I also have an Ergo he can go in. Am I crazy or should we wait?

I don't think you are crazy! It isn't so much a question of age, but of how your DS deals with travel, schedule disruptions, crowds and noise, etc. Our oldest was a seasoned frequent flier before he was one, so trips to DL were no big deal for the most part, as long as we could accomodate his picky eating. Youngest was a different story. Even at three, trips to DL had to be handled carefully since he was so sensitive to changes in schedule and environment. If your DS is a roll-with-it kind of infant, then go for it! Like you said, the Baby Care Center is there for you and you will be able to go back to the hotel mid-day for rest time -- these are big advantages for your trip.

Thanks. DS is pretty much a go with the flow type as long as he is fed. lol. In regards to noise, he has a 2.5 year old sister so our house is always noisy. :) I figure he will be in the stroller, Ergo carrier or in our lap for the entire trip so it might even be easier than it was when DD was 6.5 months and wanting to be crawling or sitting in the high chair, loading on and off the buses, etc.

So you might be crazy for taking a 4.5 month old but not for taking a 6.5 month old?

I really don't see any difference - as it all depends on the parents and the baby at that point. The one thing I remember about having small kids is they become more work as they get older, not less. Until they can actually babysit other peoples kids then they are just more expensive.

Go, have fun!

I say go for it!..but I'm curious, what airline do you fly that allows children under 3 to travel for free? I thought you had to start paying airfare as soon as the child was 2 years old...

Not for taking a 4.5 month old. But we have stayed at the Carousel twice now and neither time was it a good experience.

I took DD when she was 2.5 months old :) My son was 3. As long as you're ok with a pretty relaxed trip (we'd been to Disneyland several times before with DS since he was 1), it's definitely doable. I spent a lot of time people watching with DD while DH rode rides with DS. We used rider swap a lot, as well.

my son was 4 months old the first time he visited a Disney park.. it was so easy.. sleep . eat,. up and in the front pack for awhile to look at all the sites and then sleep.. couldnt ask for a better trip with a little ..

I wouldn't think 4.5 months and 6.5 months would be much of a difference. If anything, it would be easier with just bottles/breastfeeding instead of that PLUS baby food.

Is going to a Disney park with a baby something everyone would want to do? No. But if you've done it before and didn't mind then I'm sure it would be fine. Plus, Disneyland is smaller and more manageable than WDW.

this is EXACTLY what I needed to hear (or read)! :) thank you!!

had some rude woman look at me and my son and say loudly to her friend.. what kind of people bring a baby like that to Disneyland. ! I Couldnt help myself.. I looked her up and down and said The same kind of people that bring OLD people like you..!!!

we were with friends who were celebrating their triplets 10th birthday.. so of course the trip was not for the baby.. and he was the best behaved kid from our group !!! lol

The only time I get slightly judgey is if the baby is super hot and sweaty. Then I feel bad.

Or once we were there when it was quite cold. The parents had hats and gloves on and whatnot. The baby did not. That made me a bit angry.

My DS was born 9/11 and we went in the second week of December. The only concern I had (2years ago now) was he wasn't old enough for his MMR shot and people who decided to not get immunizations had measles at the park- not to judge them because they can do what they want as long as it doesn't make my kid sick... On that note as long as you are careful with your little one- I didn't let mine too close to people to keep germs away from him as much as possible- it should be fine and fun! If you survived with your DD as little as 6 months you should survive this trip lol we did better with my DS at 3 months then this last December when he wanted to talk and eat real food- haha it's fun no matter how old they are as long as you have realistic expectations (I missed out on some things while he nursed/napped but it was ok with me). Btw your ergo will be a LIFESAVER!!! I had our stroller but at that young I mostly used it to hold stuff- he was in the pack all day (yeah it got heavy so maybe do a lot of longer walks with the pack to prep if you can- especially after just having a baby) and it was nice to be able to let him sleep/nurse while we all jumped in line for a ride or food or a show without waking/disturbing him. Strollers are great but ergos are so amazing at that age!!! Plus if you are nursing just throw over the cover and while you are walking, standing in line, etc you are good to go without being exposed and no worries about finding a spot to nurse. Also- if you are in the area of the baby care center take advantage! Oh and bring a good changing pad- a lot of the bathrooms don't have papers to put under the babies (but I think every bathroom had 1-2 changing stations so that was great). Anyway- short story long pm me if you want to talk about little ones at DL but I say having done it recently not only are you not crazy but go for it and have a great time!!
