Just found out yesterday we passed ROFR for a 50 point contract at AKV!

Crazy thing is, I never saw the rooms and I have never even been to AKL before! My wife saw the rooms on our last trip and she loved them.

I hope they are as awesome as the brochures look.

What is the construction schedule for the dedicated AKV buildings?

Dennis

We are all a little crazy. This is a great property and you can't buy a 50 point contract from Disney. Thus, your resale value will always be strong as this is a desirable contract. What was your total cost?

$104 a point so $5200 and $320 in closing from TTS.

Was it a steal? No.
What it a good deal? For us it was. We didn't want to buy 160 points now and we didn't like SSR, but wanted a newer resort. This way we are now owners and we can add on when we like.

If they build the pool like the brochure shows I will love it.

Congratulations and welcome home AKV neighbor! I do believe that AKV will live up to all of the hype. It is a great resort!

I can't agree with you more...we're all a little crazy. I'm in ROFR for OKW resale points, but I've never seen OKW or any DVC property!

We own a popup tent trailer and usually camp! :lmao:

...certifiably nuts...

I don't think you're crazy at all. We bought in and I had stayed at AKL once but my DH had never seen the rooms there or any DVC location. We couldn't be happier!! We love our AKV home so much and I hope you will too :D Welcome home!

Well, we must be crazy too! We just bought in on January 11, 2008. I can't help wonder if my husband and I are crazy buying DVC with all the economic instability going on in the world. But, it was something we have been going back and forth on since 04. So what the heck! We are so excited.
BTW, we did tour the rooms at the preview center, and we were blown away! You will just love it.
Congratulations and WELCOME HOME!

Okay, your wife saw the rooms and I assume that she loved them. And it's a 50-point contract? I'd say go with it.

Well, I must be crazy too because I am signing docs today for a 160-point SSR purchase. And haven't been to Florida in say, 35 years--so haven't seen ANY DVC resort. Since I live in Calif. I wanted the right to buy at GCV as well as an excuse to take a "forced vacation"--so this seemed like the best option for me and I figure it can't be too bad if it's Disney . . . .

We were crazy 10 years ago when we bought BWV sight unseen.

We're still crazy.... And loving it.

As long as your wife saw them and liked the model rooms, I'd say you're not as crazy as you think. I'm sure there are plenty of people (in addition to the previous posters who mentioned it) that have never seen DVC and bought into it sight unseen. Enjoy your new points!:goodvibes

My sister called a couple of days ago with words of DOOM from her financial advisor - "A Crash is coming! Move all of your money!" I told her that if that was the case, I was just going to put anything we had saved (not much) into buying more DVC. :wizard:

How does a 50 pt contract even exist? resale? direct?
i thought it was 160 min?? Did someone add on and then resale right away?

sm

Yes. It is likely that someone did a 50 point add on and sold it. That is how a 50 point contract exists. When you add on, the add on contract is a sub contract to your master. You can sell the sub contract separately from the master.

What the op did was buy the 50 pt. contract resale, which makes them a member.

Well i was in love with the idea of DVC when we first looked at SSR 3 years ago. I didn't really care for the resort and my wife really didn't like it. Now thanks to the disboards we learned all about resale and that we could start small and add on.

Once my wife saw the rooms I was just waiting for a small resale to come available.

Yes, I bought a 50 point resale from The Timeshare Store. So far they have been great to work with. I know there are other DVC resalers out there but I had a warm fuzzy feeling about TTS. Once the resale came available I had no hesitation is buying a resale from them.
