Am I Crazy....

Going to WDW in September for three weeks, I have the DDP for the full three weeks. Now been reading all the reports about the DDP and the ADR's.

I have decided not to make any ADR's, we are not fussed about the character dining as just the two of us, we are quite flexible on what time to eat and where to go. We just don't like the thought of our holiday being all planned for us, like to just go with the flow and see how we feel...

So folks do you think I am crazy to do this??:scared1:

We are going in Aug with the free dining plan but we decided to book ADRs. We have never done this before but don't fancy the idea of having a long wait if we just turn up. Have just booked for a ts meal around 7pm each evening. According to the reports on the boards it can get very busy.

No, I don't think that you are crazy at all... I haven't done the DDP, but we never make dining reservations before we go. When we get there, I make any "must have" reservations (like Shula's to celebrate my husband's birthday last October), but otherwise we generally go with the flow...

IF you want to eat at specific place on specific days, then it could be a good thing to make some ADRs. Depending on time of year, some restaurants can get very busy. You could either try to reserve a table a few days before you want to go to a specific restaurant, or reserve a table the morning before you go, or maybe just call an hour or two ahead. It might be a bit risky to just turn up - they may be able to find you a table, but you may have an hour's wait or something.

Have fun,
Boo

I think by going in September you should be fine - that tends to be a slower time since all the kids are back in school - maybe just book a couple if you are nervous if there are any must haves - you can always change them after you've arrived if something comes up...have fun!!

Whilst I love to plan, I hate having too much cast in stone, so we only ever make ADRs for our absolute 'must-dos' each trip. Ordinarily I'd say that you have no need to worry, but I'm not certain how the free dining has been affecting things. I'd love to know once you get back. :thumbsup2

i just could not risk not being able to eat where i wanted :) but then again i book tables in the uk all the time as well ;) it must be the virgo in me

I have a tip for you...
Make some ADRs that you definately want prior to...
We were there last September and mostly we called the dining number from our hotel phone and asked what was available that day and most everything had availability. You can even do this one day for the next day. People cancel last minute and you can take their spots!
We did this with Morocco and San Angel inn. Good Luck! I don't like planned out vacations either!
Can I ask, did you get free dining?
I heard it was offered for the UK during September??

I don't think you're crazy, very lucky, perhaps, but not crazy, as others ahve said its quiet during september so won't be difficult to eat where you choose, but I do think you ought to book a couple of character meals anyway - just for the simple reason that they are great fun, really epitomise Disney and will make some great photo opportunities:goodvibes

This is interesting. I have never done a character meal (guess it wasn't my parent's cup of tea when I was a child and we don't have any children ourselves at the moment...), but are there are character meals that particularly appeal to adults?

I have always assumed that the food tended to be a bit "child oriented" and that having a kid with you was sort of compulsory (well, if you didn't take a child, you might get looked at as though had a mental health problem... ). I am not sure that I could be tempted to go to a character meal until we have kids, but am curious if there are any where being without kids doesn't feel quite so odd...

Everyone thanks for the replies, some really good information and views on this one. It has certainly eased my mind in respect the DDP and the holiday.

I do have the free DDP whilst I am there which is even better, a chance to really make the most of everything that is Disney. I will let everyone know how I get on in terms of booking, quality etc..

Thanks again everyone!:cool1:

We did Cinderellas Royal Table for our 1st wedding anniversary and when we got there they gave us 2 free champagne flutes that are embossed with 'cinderellas royal table'
THe food is good, the raspberry dessert is yummy... It's definatley not just for kids. It's very romantic too!
If you've never been inside the castle, you should try it, it's really neat!
