Am I crazy to think...

...that I may get a "real deal" if I call a day or two ahead of my trip to see what deluxe I may be able to upgrade to if willling to come up with a few bucks?

Right now I am booked at Pop for two nights--solo trip. Prior to Pop I will be in a suite at the Portofino Bay Hotel which many on the Universal Board say is at least equivalent to a Disney Deluxe. I think Pop will be fine, since I will not likely be in my room very much. Still, a part of me wants to stay at AKL. The trip will be a bit of a fact finding mission for a 3 family trip I will be planning for '07 and all of the families want to stay AKL.

So, my thought is to call a a day or two prior to my Pop arrival and see what they may be willing to let an empty room at AKL go for.

Am I crazy?

I don't think there's any precedent for it besides when they used to book rooms at the visitors center in Ocala...

I have often been able to get an AP rate or public code rate a day or two in advance....but you'd know in that case that the code was available, just not what rooms were left.

They have also in the past done upsell rates, but I don't think I've heard of anyone getting that in a long time. Its mentioned on MouseSavers.

People were receiving e-mails that were staying at the Value's for the month of May and asking them if they would like to go the the DVC resorts. Many were taking them up on the offer.

I think it depends on the time of year you are going. If you are going Peak Season or Holiday Season, I don't think you will get the Animal Kingdom Lodge, but maybe a moderate.

You can always try. The most they will do is say no.

You could also try going to AKL before checking in at Pop and ask at the front desk if they can upgrade you to their resort.
We did this once at WL when we were booked at POR. They did offer us a discount but we stuck with POR.
