Am I crazy to think about changing reservation from Poly to FW Cabin?

Hi all,

We have stayed onsite many times and the place I have always wanted to try is the Poly so we have a reservation there for a week in Feb. for me and DH and two teen daughters. I spent too much on Christmas and am stressing about money now as it is time to pay off my vacation balance! So I decided to look into the cabins knowing that we do like space and it looks like it would cost about $1400 less including a golf cart (if I am doing my math right) for the week. I am so torn...What would you do? My husband normally only wants to stay deluxe so I am not going to consider a regular moderate but might consider the cabins just because it seems so different and would let him (the snorer) have a little room...
thoughts?

We love the Cabins and the added space they offer. Plus if you are including a golf cart you are mitigating the major concern about needing to use an internal bus to get to the busses for the parks.
You will have a full kitchen which can save additional money. Even if you only use it for breakfast, cold drinks and snacks. You could get a grocery delivery from a service like Garden Grocer and have them deliver directly to your Cabin.
I think it is a great idea.

Love saving money, and they are different from the normal experience.

BUT, you would be leaving a hotel resort for a fancy campground. We appreciated the space and kitchen but did not like the isolation, transportation to parks, long distance to any amenities etc. We felt it was no different than staying offsite. It works great for many and I would still suggest to some but it did not feel like a resort to us. But it is one fancy campground.

My friend liked FW cabins, but it's not for our family. When I go on vacation, I prefer the resort experience and vibe. If you're interested in saving money, perhaps there's a moderate resort (POR, FQ?) that will still give you a resort experience and save you some cash? If you can swing the cost, staying at a deluxe resort is a really nice treat. We love Disney resorts, particularly Epcot resorts and GF.

I am in the post holiday budget mode too but I wouldn't switch. I know my minor freak out over my upcoming cc bill will be short lived and I will just cut back in other ways but nobody messes with my vacation! Lol In fact we have a split stay 3 days BC/3 Poly booked for January. The Poly is my absolute favorite resort! I have never stayed at the cabins but I imagine most teen girls would be disappointed to make that switch. I would much rather give up expensive dining/dinner shows and enjoy the free perks of being at The Poly. If you haven't stayed at GF yet you can also walk there from Poly and explore. In the end you know your family best. You could always consider a split stay as well save $700 but still get to stay at The Poly!

If they were similar, I would say definitely. But they are so different. $1400 is a lot of money. You really have to do what makes you feel comfortable. But if you can swing Poly, I would do that. Cut your budget in other ways. Are you doing the cheapest room at the Poly? I would do that over FW.

I couldn't do it, but I am not into camping...at all.

This. The thought of camping - or as my DH would call my version of camping 'glamping' since I need full electric, a functional bathroom and a bed with fluffy pillows and a comforter -- does nothing for me.

We have always stayed in moderate or deluxe resorts and are choosing to stay in the Cabins in February. If this is your only stay for a while, you might want to consider the experience you will have. If you visit WDW regularly, this is just another adventure. This is not glamping. The cabins give a bit more space than a usual hotel room with 2 queen beds and include a full kitchen, deck, and outside grill. Again, it all depends on the experience you're looking for!

itll b a completely different vacation. Are you going again this year? If not, I wouldn't switch. Have you looked at other deluxe resorts that may save you some money yet you wont be on a campground?

I have the dilemma of whether I should switch from a one bedroom at BCV for four people to two rooms at POFQ for a $400 savings. I just don't know if being able to walk right into Epcot is something I can live without???? :scratchin:scratchin:scratchin

I would propose some options of FW as well as other resorts to your husband with what amount it would actually save you. He may have some opinions as to what he prefers and what he thinks is worth the money. It might be the case that he would save a little and stay at a moderate vs the camping experience. I have never stayed at FW but my guess is going from a deluxe to a campground might not be an option to him. This way it takes the decision solely off of you in case you end up with some unhappy campers with your accommodations ( no pun intended!!)

Haha!!! My DH laughs at me because I considered staying CL at the Wilderness Lodge to be like camping. Different strokes for different folks, LOL.

I have never stayed at BCv, but will be staying at BWV in April -- I can tell you my opinion after that trip. My guess is that you could probably save $400 in other ways -- possibly choosing less expensive dining options or breakfast in room, water for beverages. i think for that amount i would't change. I hear the pool at BCV is great

we've stayed at BC and YC a bunch of times and SAB is great, but getting a chair on a nice day can be quite an undertaking. Hahaha.

We've also stayed at BWI and BWV and the clown pool is cool, I don't think it's amazing though.

My problem is putting two adults on the pullout in the living room and the one toilet, one shower. Let's be honest, I'm not going to take a tubby before going to the parks in the morning, although that soaking tub does look sweet. :rotfl2:

I think for me it would depend on the type of trip we were planning. If you'll be at the parks most of the day and pretty much just using the hotel as a place to sleep & shower, the move to the cabin may not matter as much (provided you're okay with the added transportation time to get to/from the parks). If you were planning time at the resort specifically to enjoy the Poly, I probably would not switch.

I would price out other deluxe resorts to see if any you like come in cheaper for your dates, then talk to your DH about your financial concerns with the cost of the Poly and show him the other options available & potential savings. Then make a decision together.

I would stay at the Poly but the cabins do nothing for me. I'm not into camping at all or the rustic theme. I hear it's very big and spread out. My kids wouldn't like it either. I would switch to a moderate before going to the cabins.

I have stayed in both and enjoyed both. But they are totally different experiences. I agree that a chat with your DH might be the best way to go.
