Am I crazy to go in late July?

My twins start marching band in high school this year so August is out. They both have summer camp in June so we are going for 7 nights on July 21.
We went in July on our first trip but I didn't have anything to compare it too. Now we've done November and September so I'm a little nervous. We plan to do rope drop, take resort breaks in the afternoon and then head back in the evenings.

Who else will be braving the July crowds and heat? Any encouragement?

We were there last July as a party of 11. I recommend rope drop and afternoon breaks. We brought our own water bottles, frog togs, and snacks (granola bars, pop tarts.) I scheduled our 1 TS/day at lunch. It was nice to sit down to a nice meal out if the heat. I started our FP's at 10am. Our itinerary usually went something like : 10am FP, 11am FP, 12pm lunch, 1pm FP, back to hotel for a break. If you can go a couple of morning EMH I highly recommend it. Have fun!

The two questions you need to answer are 1) Do you want to go? and 2) Are your expectations realistic? That's really all there is to it.

We will be there a week before you. We've done July before and its not bad. Yes crowded and hot, but stick to the best plans of using rope drop, mid-day breaks, and so on.

When you go to Disney, you only have a bad time if you go with unrealistic expectations. If you go in late July and expect it to be perfectly lovely weather and low crowds, you're going to be very disappointed. You've been in July so you know what you're getting into. Expect that (or worse, even!) and you'll be prepared for what you encounter. Head to the parks in the early and late parts of the day, run for cover or the pool in the middle part of the day, arm yourself with a great touring plan that accounts for high crowds -- and smile and enjoy that you are in The World.

I think you will be fine. You have a plan, know that you will do rd, take breaks etc. July is insanely hot, but if you go in Sept, you are used to heat.

We go every year at the end of August. Lower crowds, but the weather is terrible! Like July, hot and stormy every day. We always have a good trip but like a previous post said, it's all about expectations. We don't get as much done as we can on a cooler-weather trip, between the heat and the daily lightning storms. Just try to make rope drop and get your must-dos done as early as possible :)

I am doing my first July trip since the 80s when I was a kid. I love Labor Day week because of low crowds but my son will be starting middle school in August and I don't feel comfortable pulling him out anymore. Where I live the schools start crazy early...like August 17th. If they could just start after Labor Day that would be so much better! My friend was there late July last year and said that it wasn't that bad. Anyway I think that as others have said as long as you have a plan u should be fine!

We hit it early September. Low crowds. If your kids like hanging with people their age you should enjoy July.

We'll be there the week of July 10th, and we went last year over July 4th weekend. We love the resort pools, water parks, and warm summer nights at the parks. You have a great summer game plan- stick to it. Fall is more crowded than ever before, so late July likely won't be too different from most of this fall in terms of crowds.

Stay at a resort with a good pool, and include a water park day or two. I carry a UV umbrella at the parks during the sunniest parts of the day, and wear water-friendly sandals so a rain shower won't make me miserable. Avoid wearing denim, which tightens when wet & dries out slowly. Many people complain about summer heat & rain without trying to prepare for it. You wouldn't go in winter without a coat, so be sure to bring your sun protection and water-friendly shoes in summer.

We'll be there on July 22. We have been during July before too. However, the last two trips we went in March during our Spring Break, not Easter weeks though. I don't mind the crowds. Hit rope drop, have a good plan, and then the afternoon is a breeze.

We'll be there July 20-30. Our plan: Have Fun and Stay Positive. That's all we care about. It doesn't matter how many rides or shows we see if we're not having fun. Best advice is slow down and enjoy your time there. Less is more (except when it comes to water and ac in July!).

Our school starts first of August so we've gone in July the last 3 years. It's not bad. But I live in the South so the heat is normal to us

We do plan pool time everyday and we are going to try both water parks (2 days). We've never done the water parks and we are really looking forward to it. I appreciate the encouragement from everyone and I'm really excited about the time alone with my twins. We will remember to go with the flow and enjoy our time.

Thanks again I love to hear the positive replies.
