Am I crazy to consider taking a day off to make ADRs

Let me start off by saying we earn our PTO time at work. I've been here almost 2 years and not taken lots of time off. Even with the days off I have scheduled right now I will max out on earned time in October. That means I wouldn't earn any for Nov 1 or Dec 1 (total of about 3 days).

I have time off scheduled in May and June. (3 days in May and 1 in June). We get almost all of the holidays, so we get about 1 holiday per month.

I was thinking of taking my ADR day off of work because it's a Friday(June 6 according to the 180 day out calendar on The Dis). I can't make the reservations at work because they would kill me if I sat on the phone doing that here.

Am I crazy to consider taking a PTO day just to do ADR's? I leave for work in the AM by 7 each day, so getting them done before leaving isn't a viable option. :confused3

I don't think you're crazy - I took the day off to make our ADRs, I had a whole set up comfy blanket, laptop cup of coffee and the phone. So if you are crazy you aren't crazy alone :wave2:

Go for it. You have nothing to lose since your accrual will max out.

You're talking to crazy Disney people here, so the kind of behavior you're suggesting is just considered normal for us :lmao:

We don't take time off, but we do get up at a crazy hour to get online or on the phone (Central time). Just picture having a nice glass of wine and a full belly at the dinner you reserved...you'll be saying, "I'm so glad I took that day off."

Ahhh....I knew this was the place to come to have my feelings/logic validated!

I put in for the time off. It's going to make for a nice long weekend in June :) :cool1:

Ok, I think you're crazy. There has to be someone going against the grain!

Honestly, I don't see where making reservations is this huge deal. I did call at 9:30 on my 180 mark, and it took me about 10 minutes and I got all my first choices (some very popular meals, too). Now, looking at what's available, there are still a lot of popular restaurants with availability. Of course, you're going during Christmas? So I'm sure that would make getting ADRs much more difficult.

That being said, I am all for taking the day off!! :) Go do something fun that day, after you've made your ADRs!

The only problem I see is that the system seems so fussy that what if you take the day off and the system is down and you can't actually make your ressies first thing? Not that this happens all the time by any means, but I've seen more than a few posts of folks anxiously up on their 180 days and they can't get in. Would that make you feel like you wasted a morning off or would you be just as happy to have a three day weekend anyway?

Two trips ago I got up at 6 a.m. to make ressies and the system was down both online and on the phone. It didn't come back up until almost lunchtime. I was loosing it because I was going to be out all afternoon :furious: but luckily it came up before I had to leave the house.

Of course you aren't crazy! I scheduled my work days around making ADRs too. Plus if you get a free Friday out of it then you are all set!

I only made two right away but probably should have made more. Good for you if you can make all of them right away!

LOL Thats sounds normal to me.

I remember august 20th for ADR's for BOG i was on the phone when i walked in to work and told my boss i wouldn't be productive until i get this reservation. He knows i am a Disney nut so it seemed normal to him, and he was ok with it. 4 and 1/2 hours later i was successful for getting my BOG ADR for opening week of New Fantasyland. So crazy NO

I set my alarm for 4:45 am on my day 180 to prep for the 5 am CST online adrs! I open tabs on my desktop to all of my desired restaurants, copy my credit card number so it can easily be pasted into the desired location and have my wish list organized next to me in order of most important to have! Hoping the new website isn't down or acting screwy on my day 180 this trip! Whatever I don't manage to get I'll keep checking back on daily to see if I can manage snagging someone's cancellation! My DH thinks I'm crazy for all of my planning and prep, but considering I only get to go sporadically every year or so (although I'm trying to change that) I want to be sure to get the ressies that I want! IMHO, I see NOTHING wrong with taking a day off to get the adrs you want! Good luck!:thumbsup2

Do not all restaurants allow you to make reservations online? I've made them and its all been done online. :confused3

I almost did. I couldn't get the system to work, so I had to call at 7:00. I thought I was going to be on hold forever, so was sweating having to call off work since I have to leave at 7:45. But got through in about 15 min and the CM was quick and got me through all 10 ADR's fast. So I was prepared to....but didn't have to. Not that if I waited untill 3 I wouldn't get them, just maybe not the times I wanted.

First I thought you were nuts. But, I saw that you were going to max out time in October. Take the day off!! Hopefully your ADR's won't take too long to make, and you'll have the rest of the day to do as you please. And while you're at it, take a couple other days before you max. Do some shopping or just plain relaxing!

If you want to take off a day, take off a day. It is your PTO time. That being said, I made my reservations online and not on the 180th day mark and had no problem at all making reservations. I didn't try BOG though.
