Am I Crazy for Thinking of Getting a Second Owner's Locker?

Hi Disfriends!

I guess the thread title says it all. I'll share a little more info though...

I purchased our first OL after we purchased DVC in 2022. We used it for the first time in our trips for 2023; we fly from the midwest and it's turned out to be a lifesaver for us. I just booked a quick trip with my DSs in August at AS, and then DH and I have a trip planned for the fall at BWV to take part in the RunDisney races. We stayed at OKW in March of this year, and our OL is stuffed to the rim. Like, someone had to sit on it to get the lid zip tied. We are not able to use the little divider trays because we have some much stuff crammed in it. I think the divider trays would be so helpful for all the little stuff that falls to the bottom of the bin that we have to dig for throughout our stay. I'm toying with the idea of adding a second OL, so that I can more evenly distribute our stuff and better utilize the space. Plus, I'd like to have more room to store shelf stable food so I don't have to order so much stuff in a grocery run every time we go. Right now, when we pack our OL before we check out, it takes a ton of time to get everything in. It's like a huge Jenga puzzle. Gah! :P

So, I'm looking for advice from those who have two OLs. Are you glad you jumped from one to two tubs? Is it a complete pain to have two OLs? I know it will cost more, and I'm trying to determine if it's silly to add a second OL or if the order it will bring to my WDW trips makes sense and is worth the added cost. I understand only I can determine if it's worth it to me, but I'm looking for feedback from folks who made the leap to more than one OL.

In advance, thanks so much for your input!

@bdrex28 It's an Owner's Locker. Thanks for pointing out that my title might be confusing. I'll edit it right now. :-)

I'm still learning, so while I've heard of an Owner's Locker we don't have one and it didn't pop into my brain housing group :)

I’m considering adding a second locker as well to store my Disney clothes so I can take advantage of those $39. cheapo flights without having to worry about luggage…my current OL is overflowing with toiletries and kitchen odds and ends (like foil and Pam spray) and emergency supplies (sewing kit, tweezers, scissors), and OTC meds and just a ton of stuff…

If the cost of the second owner's locker is offset by fewer baggage fees or not needing to buy things that are difficult to fly with as much, then it's an easy decision.

@TCRAIG it sounds like your OL looks like mine! :P I just called OL to see how adding a second locker works. I asked if there was a DVC discount for a second locker (like there was for my first locker), and if adding a second locker provides the first delivery free (like with the first locker). I also asked if it made sense for me to move from the moderate plan to the deluxe plan. I think I freaked out the guy who answered the phone. He couldn't answer any of those questions, and asked me to email the OL owner for answers to those questions. I did, and I'm sure I'll get a response. But, in the meantime, I'm curious if Disfolks have answers to these questions.

@muppets3d exactly! However, I'm realizing there is a little more to it, which I didn't think about before. I'm realizing that I might be outgrowing the moderate plan? And, I'm not sure how moving to the deluxe plan works, especially with adding a second locker?

I’m considering getting a second one to hold an air mattress now that my kids are resisting sharing a Murphy bed. We like 1 bedrooms at BWV and they only have 2 sleeping surfaces. It would also be nice to keep some of our Disney specific loungefly bags which don’t fit in the first OL. I’m sure I can fill it up. 😆

We have two. We got our first one over 10 years ago and got the second shortly thereafter. We always get a 1 or 2 bedroom so space is not really an issue. I’m not sure where we would store things if we were in a studio.

Everyone uses their OL’s differently. We don’t use ours to decrease the amount of baggage we bring but instead use ours to have “our stuff” around and special “vacation only” items. Just as a sampler of what we store = Nespresso with pods, vodka, cognac, gin, 2 Disney themed throw blankets, tote bag for the pool, bathrobe, slippers, coffee mugs, pool mugs, etched wine glasses, etched tumblers, etched highball glasses, ice bucket, cutting boards, pizza cutter, paring knife, salt and pepper shakers, a few DVC pull overs/sweatshirts, a few DVC polos, first aid kit, magic bands, laundry baskets (collapsible), dishwasher pods, laundry pods, extra charging cables. Also left over non perishables like bottled water

We use compression bags for the soft stuff (the type that don’t require a vacuum) and bought packing sleeves for the breakable stuff.

They have great customer service. We cannot imagine not having the OL’s and frankly we miss our OL stuff when we travel to non Orlando destinations.

Also, we are kind of weird about not wanting to use the ice bucket or laundry baskets that come in the villas. So we just have our own.

Edited to add: we have the moderate plan. We generally go twice a year so it doesn’t make sense to upgrade to the unlimited plan but instead we just pay the extra fees for the 2nd trip each year. If my math is right, we’d need to go an additional 2-3 times per year to make the unlimited plan worth it.

@CWTC this is really helpful info. I feel like we could easily fill a second OL, and it would be great to have a few more things from home on hand. I'm trying to tease apart two issues: 1. Should we move from our moderate plan to the deluxe plan? 2. Should we adde a second tub?

I just heard back from Raymond from OL and he was great. He let me know that the rule of thumb for math for moving from moderate to deluxe is 4 trips in a use year; that's sort of the tipping point. We will have three trips for our use year that resets in January of 2025. So, I think for now, we'll stick with the moderate plan. Now I just have to noodle on whether the extra locker makes sense for us. Reading everyone's lists above already has me thinking of other things to bring down/keep in an extra locker. :rotfl2:

If you later decide the second OL isn't necessary, it's as simple as a phone call to them to have it cancelled. Then you can return it to them empty.

Need another Locker? We recommend getting just one to start. They are bigger than you might think! If you do decide that you need additional Lockers there is no Membership Fee. You simply choose a yearly storage/delivery plan. The Moderate Plan costs $125.00 per year and includes storage and one free round trip Visit per year. Extra Visits for additional Lockers are $15.00 each when delivered with your first Locker. The Deluxe Plan cost for an additional Locker is $180.00 per year and includes storage and unlimited Visits per year. Your additional Locker will have the same Anniversary Date as your first Locker. So, for example, if you purchase an additional Locker 6 months into your use year you will pay for only 6 months of storage for the additional Locker for the first year.

lol funny you bring this up. We got our first owners locker last year when we became DVC members and we just got back from a trip last week where I made the last minute decision to order a second locker in the middle of our trip and had it arrive like 2 days before we left….it’s basically already full 😅We did leave some clothes and some sandals/crocs behind we wouldn’t have normally, a few park bags, hand fans, and I also bought a small standing fan for the room this trip and left that behind too. But we also have to rearrange our lockers our next trip, definitely left some miscellaneous/souvenir stuff behind that I want to take home with me but didn’t really want to travel with back home this trip.

I’m really happy we got the second box, we go to Disney often enough and have enough WDW specific stuff that it just made sense for us to leave it in a second box. Hoping to fly with less bags going forward. I’m not sure if I should have called first but we didn’t get any discounts for the the second locker and I was charged $25…I assume that’s the cost of the locker? Again, should probably ask lol

I agree with others here that if you think it’ll alleviate some luggage/flight costs, or if you just think it’ll make your trips more enjoyable to have more of yours stuff there, then go for it!

We love our OL, I'm sure we could fill a second locker, but we fly SW so no baggage fees(yet.) Our one OL allows us to fly with just one checked bag, and our carry-ons.

For any OL owners, what would you say is the benefit of having one now that they have easy grocery delivery? We get Walmart+ for free so we get free grocery delivery and have been using that for a few things the first day of our trip.

What things are you keeping in an owners locker that you either can't get delivered or can't easily bring with you? Now that we are going a lot I'm trying to figure out if we may want one

Check out my post up thread. We still do grocery delivery and the only food items we leave in the lockers are bottled water if we have left overs. We don’t want anything exploding or leaking onto our other stuff.

For us, we use our two OL’s for “comfort stuff,” so things like etched wine glasses that we look forward to using while at WDW or a nespresso coffee maker. Pretty much things that make our villa feel more like home for the 8-9 nights that we are there. We do stay in larger rooms so space isn’t an issue.

We have considered getting a third locker but honestly it’s kind of embarrassing when bell services brings up all our luggage, groceries, and OL’s as it is now.
